The Tiger Within

Chapter 85

The lion lay quietly beside Kyera now, out of the puddle of blood, his breathing much better now that he has been bandaged up. Drained of energy Kyera didn"t move, she just sat and panted softly as she made efforts to regain some of her energy and composure.

The Queen looked at the two women who just entered and her face went dark. Fae was well aware of who this beauty was and who protected her, but the old woman… A dark plan started to twist into her mind, eyes darting over to the graceful woman who had healed the lion as well. It would be best to be rid of both if not all three!

"The Emperor is coming." stated a guard by the door. It was a announcement of course, so all in attendance may kneel. Kyera once again just stayed on her knees. There was no point in getting up. Even if she did move away from the beast her dress was coated in his blood. However she was at the perfect height to see the smirk on the queen"s face.

"How dare you Beauty Mally! You bring these outsiders here and our Rasha just happens to become injured!" Queen Fae accused, pointing her finger at Mally. Her hand dug nails into her leg to cause tears to p.r.i.c.k her eyes, a fact that didn"t escape Kyera"s notice. "You monster!" she growled. Mally looked confused for a moment, but Kyera didn"t bat an eyelash at first. There was a darkness surrounding this woman when it came to Mally. Little did Fae know, no one was allowed to touch Kyera"s dearest friend.

"What is the meaning of this, Queen Fae?" The Emperor demanded slightly confused by the storm he had just walked into. His lion still laying on it"s side near a pool of blood, a white bandage standing out against his soft tan fur. This woman he had never seen before kneeling in the blood. She was a strikingly present woman but if she had something to do with Rasha"s injury… his blood will not be the only one staining the earth.

Kyera looked up, meeting the Emperor"s gaze, intending respond. Her annoyance was clear in her heart but she suppressed it from her eyes. This was not a situation the tiger could survive, but perhaps the maid had a chance. Before she had a could collect her breath enough to speak, Alexi stepped forward to put a hand on The Queen"s shoulder.

"My Lord, Mother is mistaken because she was not here for everything. Grief can make things unclear." Alexi replied, a reasonable quality to his words. "The situation was dire but this Medicine Woman, trained by Shaman Half Eye of Shadows, gracefully a.s.sisted." he explained bowing to his father slightly as he interceded on the Queen"s accusation. Alexi smiled at Kyera who was pleasantly surprised as her chances to survive increased with the word of the Prince. to give the Queen a chance to back down with dignity. However her greed for retribution against Mally was blinding her.

"Then she is involved as well. Your Majesty, I am not mistaken, as grief stricken as I am." The second Queen protested, her voice like that of a wronged child. Alexi squeezed her shoulder lightly, a warning to stop, but Fae pushed her son"s hand away. "Those women knew what poison it was when the poison Master did not! That one even had an antidote on hand. How was this possible if they didn"t plan it before hand?" Fae asked standing and moving toward the Emperor, imploring him to believe her. Her desperation carefully concealed in the hurt tones of betrayal.

The Emperor"s brow furrowed as he looked at the three women standing near the tiger. Then he noticed his granddaughter standing beside the blood drenched woman on the ground. She seemed oddly confident at her side. "Do you have anything to add, n.o.bel Beauty Mally?" He asked turning back to her. His mind seemed to be made up, and she turned pale.
