The Tiger Within

Chapter 229

However, that restful slumber did not end the next morning. Nor did it end when the maid tried to wake her, or Clovis lightly shook her slender body. She breathed but nothing more. In a fit of worry, He sent for the Emperor.

The Emperor swept into the room, looking rather concerned as he locked eyes with his son. The woman sleeping on the floor was more concerning. Kyera"s breathing had become shallow and her complexion paled more with each pa.s.sing hour. "What happened?" He asked looking questioning at Master Tai Ken who stood near by.

"I am not sure, Your Majesty. I treated her as I would any other. Yet she does not wake." Tai Ken replied, his expression was grave. The reactions of Clovis and the Emperor were both quite concerned, he could only imagine how they would respond if the Little Princess saw her teacher like this.

"Have you called for other healers?" The Emperor asked watching her critically. walking in a slow circle, he took in every sign from her body. Nothing seemed to even vaguely hint at what was keeping her subdued.

"Yes, My lord. The Palace healers have no idea what to make of this either. We believe she has crossed a G.o.d." Tai Ken replied giving her a superior look, though it seemed almost pitying. Prince Clovis glowered at him fairly annoyed at his words.

"How dare you? Exactly how could she have crossed a G.o.d in protecting me and the Princess?" Prince Clovis demanded and the Master turned to him and raised a brow.

"The G.o.ds work in Mysterious ways. She may have angered him many months ago and was just now given the chance to seek judgement." Master Tai Ken replied, his voice reaching that tone of one who knows more than anyone else in the room. his arrogance finally surfacing. The Emperor sighed shaking his head at both of them.

"Kyera is most likely injured much more than we expected and sleeping is the best medicine. Why don"t we move her to a bed and keep an eye on her? Worst comes to worst we will contact Shaman Half Eye in 5 days should she not wake by then." The Emperor replied, calming both men with his decision. Clovis nodded his agreement. At least his father wasn"t listening to that crack pot"s thoughts on this matter.

He walked forward, ignoring his father and the two men who had come forth to pick her up as he wrapped his arms around her. He lifted her into the air, Kyera"s form cradled against his chest as he gently supported her back, his other arm under her legs as he carried her to the guest room.

"For now she will sleep here." Clovis told his father who nodded.

"Perhaps it would be a good idea to contact Lord Mordrin. She is one of his amba.s.sadors." The Emperor offered, concern in his eyes. The treaty with Shadow Veil was thin, yes Vella had married into the royal family, but Mordrin had seemed to care very much for this girl. If something happened to her... there may be trouble.

"I will send a letter to my sister. For now, I will do my best to watch over her." Clovis a.s.sured him nodding.

"Have you seen Moon lately?" The Emperor asked curiously. Clovis sighed looking out toward the forest. He, in truth, had not thought of her much during the last few hours. He missed her very much, but he had been told she would need time.

"Her mate died, and she is trying to come to terms with it. She will come home when she is ready." Clovis replied calmly and the Emperor nodded.

"I see. Well, we will postpone the dance. With this treaty being in possible danger, I would prefer to see how this plays out." The Emperor mused, casting another concerned glance at the girl"s sleeping form.

"As you wish, Father." Prince Clovis replied, escorting the Emperor to the doors where his servants waited. Clovis tucked in his daughter, and returned to the guest room. Leaning against the doorway, he watched the slow rise and fall of her chest. She looked well enough... perhaps he was right and she just needed rest. There was a unease settling in his chest.
