"Rachael my daughter how is work?"
Liu Anna forced herself to sound cheerful as she spoke to her daughter.
"Good morning mom, I just woke up....no...I..mean...I"m running an errand for my m-manager!"
Liu Rachael cringed from almost letting out to her mother that she was not at work, at least not the type of work that she boasted of when she was first hired at Cinopec Group.
Instantly, Liu Anna picked up on the telltale sign of her daughter"s untruth. Having watched her grow from a baby to the adult that she now was, she knew when her child wasn"t telling her the truth, just like she was doing at the moment.
"How is your manager? Is the work hard on you?"
Liu Anna decided to play along with her daughter to see where it would lead. Although her eyes were still red from crying, hearing the voice of Liu Rachael made her laugh heartily.
Liu Anna"s voice suddenly took on a serious tone as she called her daughter"s name.
"Rachael."
"Yes, mom."
"If by chance something were to happen. Don"t hide it from me. Can you promise to do that for me?"
A sense of unease stole into the heart of Liu Rachael, that her mother was on to something, but was not direct about it.
"I promise not to hide anything from you."
