Chamberlain remained silent for a few seconds before speaking, "I"d ask you to trust me, but I"d rather you make the decision yourself."

"You do know you"re asking me to trust you blindly, right? The Chamberlain a few months ago would ask me not to trust a soul, what changed?

Anyway, I can"t decide that"s why I called."

"Then what"s your decision?"

"You haven"t even answered my questions." Carl rolled his eyes.

Of course Chamberlain knew if he answered truthfully, Carl would be unwilling to trust him.

Indeed, he did not think of Carl as a friend but as a p.a.w.n. He gave Carl that position because it was his father"s decision.

He should have known that his father wouldn"t do that for no particular reason. As for the deal with Brandon Blackwood, it was just a simple trade.

However, things changed, they became friends. Not the closest of friends but friends all the same.

Actually, to Chamberlain, seeing Carl weak reminded him of himself. His struggle to go against his father. He didn"t have the courage to stand against his father but he gave Carl a stupid pep talk about eagles, hoping to motivate Carl to change his life. After all, he was free of the shackles of the Blackwood name, he should at least do better not focus his attention on just one person not even thinking of broadening his horizon. It p.i.s.sed him off.

But being laid back, Chamberlain understood was something people wished for too.

"I can"t answer those but I"ll…" They discussed for a while before ending the call.

Carl returned inside to find Kim lazing on the couch. The TV was on but she wasn"t paying attention, her mind had long drifted off. He sat down beside her, kissed her cheek to get her attention.

"Baby, I want to tell you a few things and I hope you don"t panic or get worried, everything will be fine."

Of course asking someone not to panic or worry had the effect of making them worry.

"Is everything okay?" On hearing that, she sat up.

"Everything is fine but l just want to prepare for the worst. If I get arrested, I need you to stay in school, don"t try to stay alone, you should always be with your friends. It"s safer."

She felt sick in her stomach, "Why? Is someone threatening you with my life?"

"No, I just want to ensure your safety. You matter the most to be so I have to protect you."

"I"ll get my a.s.sistant to drive you if you need to go anywhere. You have access to all I have already, so that shouldn"t be a problem."

Her eyes watered, "You"re scaring me, it sounds like I won"t be seeing you again."

Carl drew closer to her, he kissed her forehead, "Of course not. You said you trust me, right?"

She put her head in her hands, "With my life."

He raked his fingers through his hair, making it messy. Thereafter, he hugged her. "Then do as I say. It"s only for a while. You know it has to do with the Stans and they"re very dangerous so I don"t want anything to happen to you. Remember, your priority is ensuring your safety, every other thing is secondary."

Carl knew they had to part for a while, he was hoping it wouldn"t happen but Chamberlain made him understand that things wouldn"t go his way. He had to prepare her in case things don"t work out.

"But, you…" He was also her priority, so…

He quickly interrupted her, "I know… I"ll feel better knowing you"re safe."

Raising her head, she asked, "Do you have a plan?"

"My boss does, he said he would help."

"So you trust him?"

"Yeah."

She nodded in understanding, "I love you," she confessed once more as tears fell from her eyes.

She only just realized his importance but things had to go wrong. They only just got married, so why the separation?

She really wanted to ask him not to leave but she understood the gravity of the situation.

Carl kissed away her tears, "I also love you."

Lena saw Chamberlain sitting by himself in deep thought. She approached him, "Lain, what"s wrong?" She placed her hands on his shoulder and gave him a rub.

He hesitated for a while but finally relented. "My friend is in trouble, so I need to help. There"s just one slight problem… It"s against Father. And I know how father can be…"

"Is it Carl?" Though she asked, she was beyond certain that he was referring to Carl. Who else would Chamberlain refer to as a friend?

He nodded.

He didn"t want to act rashly so he was thinking of the best way to make his father let go of Carl.

He had never gone against his father"s order before so doing that might make his father suspicious of him. That was the last thing he needed.

Actually, he thought what his father wanted was to help Carl take power from Brandon Blackwood so that Carl would be his puppet, just like he has done countless times.

Skillfully removing his enemies and placing p.a.w.ns. So he a.s.sumed Carl would be safe. He did not expect that he would be used as a Canon fodder. This made him quite curious… What was his father thinking?

"Did he offend father?"

"That"s the problem… I can"t figure out why he"s trying to send him to prison for a crime he didn"t commit." Chamberlain responded as he drummed the table using his fingers.

Lena has a good impression of Carl so she was a bit concerned, "How"s your friendship? Is it still okay?"

"It"s okay… perhaps. It feels a little awkward. My father is the one trying to harm him for no good reason."

She patted him once more, "Why don"t you call father and ask him what he"s planning."

Chamberlain sighed, "He doesn"t let me in on his plans but I can try to understand him I guess."

"Then I"ll leave you to call him."
