The next day being Monday, and the first day of the month of May, Carl drove Kim to school. She was a student after all and needed to study. He wanted her to move back to school but he did not know when he could see her next. This was exactly because he had no idea when the case would come to an end. Whether he would win or not… it was still unknown, so he valued what little time he spent with her even more.
Frankly speaking, he was a bit unwilling to separate with her, whether it was for school or the case, it did not matter. He did not want to be away from her all the same. However, that was not his call to make. She had to concentrate on school work whether or not he scales through the problem. He couldn"t be so selfish as to prevent her from leaving his side.
Well, his thoughts were not so different from Kims". She knew she had to concentrate on school too, not just her relationship with Carl. Sometimes she wants to give up too and just let him pamper her.
However, she also wanted him to be proud of her, to be able to show her off to the world. Wouldn"t he be too ashamed of her if she doesn"t get her degree?
Definitely, if an aristocrat had a dropout for a wife, he would be mocked till eternity. She didn"t want anyone to look down on both of them.
Of course, Carl wouldn"t think that way but she still wanted to be great for both of them, if not for her parents at the very least.
So she came to the conclusion that she would put in double the effort to graduate early, join the workforce and be someone she would be proud of. That he would be proud of.
While on their way to school, Carl received a message from Mr. Anderson. He had forwarded the list of lawyers who could possibly take up the case.
As soon as Kim alighted the car, she saw Sean a few meters ahead of her. After kissing Carl goodbye, she met up with Sean to thank him once more before lectures began. Sean shrugged it off. It wasn"t so important after all.
Carl watched all these happen but he wasn"t that jealous— he had already left a glaring hickey on her neck and Kim who was unaware of his little act was wearing it unreservedly.
He wanted everyone to know she was taken and more importantly, she was his.
He waited until she disappeared before driving away with a victorious smirk on his face. If only he could have waited until Sean spotted her hickey, he would have been much more entertained.
Since he wasn"t going to work, Carl decided to use the day to do a little research on those lawyers and also begin gathering evidence.
He had to come up with a plan to prove his innocence. The sooner, the better.
While this may be the case, no matter how prepared he was, he didn"t expect certain things…
On his return, he called Allan to meet him at home. He still had a lot of instructions in case anything goes wrong.
When he got home, he began looking up the lawyers on the list. There were seven men and three women on the list.
Truthfully, his case wasn"t that difficult but because Charles Stan planned on using him to cover up his crimes, it became difficult.
While Carl conducted his research, over at the capital, Charles Stan was carrying out his too. The capital, things were looking as splendid as ever as Charles Stan had found the perfect reason why Carl would commit those crimes.
…
Chamberlain had asked Ben to get him a new phone because he needed to contact Carl and inform him of the new development.
Subsequently, he had to wait for Ben to return. He was in his study going through his library of books when Lena stepped in.
"Hey…" she greeted, still unsure after the development last night.
Carl glanced at her briefly before turning to look at his book. He was afraid if he looked at her, he wouldn"t be able to hold himself back.
He really wanted things to return to the way they were but he was afraid that she was working for Charles Stan… He was afraid if he confronted her, she would admit to it. What then should he do?
His heart hurt at the mere thought of separation but he was clueless as to his next course of action.
"Lain… did I do something wrong?" She questioned too scared to approach any further due to the fact that he had punished her away.
Though it did not hurt much physically but emotionally she was in pain. Her heart ached when she recalled how he looked at her last night.
She had thought she had finally won her husband over since he was no longer distant. How naive she was. He was repulsed by her. This stressed her so much her head ached.
Chamberlain chose to ignore the question.
"If I did something wrong you have to tell me so I can fix it. Don"t give me the silent treatment." Lena pleaded.
He of course was struggling with himself. His heart against his mind. All he wanted to do was place his head on her bosom and let her play with his hair but he was angry to think she betrayed him.
Or perhaps she never did, she had always sided with his father.
As he went back and forth within his mind he failed to hear whatever Lena said nor did he see her when she embraced him.
Chamberlain froze.
It was all too sudden he did not expect it. Lena was about to rejoice as he did not try to shake her off but Ben interrupted.
"Boss, Mistress, sorry for the intrusion."
Lena had to pull away because she thought Ben had something important to say to Chamberlain.
Chamberlain watched her slowly walk away from him but he did nothing other than work.
