"So, he"s actually a Blackwood? What is he doing here then living with an orphan in that little apartment...?Why did he change his name? Working in this company too? And his step-mother.. why did she ask for him to be fired?"
Rubbing his forehead, Chamberlain questioned. Not that it was any of his business but he needed to know whatever happens arround him so as not to be surprised by anything later. Opportunities don"t always present themselves, this might be a way to get the support of the Blackwood family too.
"From the information we gathered, he was kicked out of the family. As for the reason, it"s unclear but it seems to be the work of his step-mother." Jameson answered. Picking up the doc.u.ment before him, Chamberlain glanced through it before asking, "He invested in the stock market? Interesting.. who do you think is a better bet, him or his father?"
"Sir, this is tricky.. Brandon Blackwood is a greedy man, he might demand for too much and as for the son, from his behaviour, we can infer he really doesn"t care for much, he prefers the simple life. While he was still in the Blackwood family, he was always indoors except for very important activities. He"s not very motivated too. And now, he"s just an office worker." Ben interjected. To him, the Blackwoods should be avoided, you can"t expect loyalty from a greedy man and you can"t expect a lost person without motivation to work for you too. It"s too troublesome. But deep down he knew his master wants more allies, he couldn"t stop him from choosing the Blackwood family, he can only dissuade him.
"Jameson, what do you think?" Chamberlain asked looking at the stoic man. "I think the son is better than the father, he needs a push." "Yes, give him a purpose and he"ll come out from his sh.e.l.l" Chamberlain reasoned. But still, Brandon has more connection than the son, he"s been in the business world long enough to build ties and those ties could be utilized as long as he can be controlled, there will be no problem whatsoever.
"Having something to fall back to is also good." Jameson added. Ben stared daggers at Jameson. This man always disagrees with him. Noticing his eyes, Jameson remained unfazed. "Sir, the Blackwood family is not a good idea. How do you control a greedy and selfish person or motivate a mediocre person?"
"Ben, don"t tell me you are this simpleminded. If you can"t figure out the answer to that, how do you work for me? You"ve been in the political scene longer than I have, your question make you seem naïve. I know you want to dissaude me but if this is your argument, then forget about it." Chamberlain could not understand Ben, isn"t it best to use every resource in your possession for your benefit? Even if you don"t have any resources, create one. Carl is someone he wants to bet on. With the necessary adjustments, he"ll do better than his father.
"Jameson, dig out every dirt on Brandon, that is how we control him and as for "Carl" figure out his weakness. It"s as simple as that." Chamberlain said eyeing Ben, as if to say, "this is how you control a greedy man and this is how you force someone in hiding to come out."
Ben could only lower his head, it"s not his fault he couldn"t come up with a better reason to dissaude Chamberlain, recalling his statement earlier, he realized how lousy it seemed. Suddenly, he got an idea, "Sir, how about an arranged marriage between young miss and Carl?" Glaring at Ben, Chamberlain asked, "You want me throw my sister into that family? You want me to give her to a man who can"t protect himself? It seems I need a new PA."
Ben"s face turned gloomy, he shouldn"t have said that, "I misspoke, forgive me sir." "You should stop acting like an amateur before I replace you." Jameson would have ridiculed Ben if not for the fact that he was a taciturn man who abhorred fun. Bowing, they both left Chamberlain to his thoughts.
...
On the other side of the city, Carl and Ryan were having fun touring the city, making stops from time to time. To the outside world, Carl was unperturbed by the attack on his men the previous day but deep down, that was what he was thinking of. Unknown to him he was being watched by men sent by his masked enemy.
"Young master, Mr. Blackwood is out with his step-brother, touring the city, he made no attempt to find out about the attack. Like it has nothing to do with it, what should we do?"
A husky voice came from the phone, "Is he truly unbothered? Or is that a charade?" The unknown man began laughing before hanging up. The men were left confused. Should they keep following him or retreat? The young master gave no instruction whatsoever. While they were contemplating on what to do, Carl and Ryan had moved to another destination. Realizing they lost the people their master asked them to follow, they panicked and began searching.
They had no idea why their master would make an enemy out of Carl, he had no relation with their master, not that they could tell and their master had never met with him so how did he offend their master. They were left with no choice but to follow their master unconditionally even when he made no sense.
