There were just a few people in the restaurant since it was morning but it was weird when they saw a man walking in with a young girl wrapped in a blanket. It was just a regular family owned restaurant in the red district. When the owner saw them, he turned to his daughter as if to compare them, his daughter was helping him out while this customer was not afraid to come out in public with her disheaveled hair, worse of it all, she was wrapped in a blanket. They could not help but whisper, amogst themselves. Kim was so embarra.s.sed she wanted to dump the blanket so many times but she did not have the courage to go against Carl. What if he got angry at her for exposing her body to other people. She did not mean he was right but she felt she should listen to him too. Then again, it was just her legs besides she was wearing his shirt.
They began speculating why she was wrapped in a blanket, "Is she naked?" Someone spoke, alerting a woman in her early 40"s. "Look at this unruly couple," she said, drawing the attention of her partner. "Young people these days…" He commented shaking his head. "They certainly have no control." The lady sneered. She certainly was conservative and could not stand any immoral act but she had no idea her daughter was worse off. "Where are they coming from? Why aren"t they in school?" Another commented.
Kim could not take it anymore, she pretended to be cold, "achuu," she sneezed covering her head with the blanket. Whether she was faking it or not did not matter to Carl as he played along, "Darling, quick sit, I"ll get you chicken soup to warm you up."
On hearing them, they came to the understanding that Kim was sick, her disheaveled hair did not indicate they had been rolling in the sheets, other than that, she could be sick and he brought his wife out for soup then it raised another discussion. "Why bring out your sick wife rather than buy it and take it to her." The lady frowned.
"May be they went to the hospital..?" As the discussion had drifted away from her indecent and immoral act to pity she heaved a sigh of relief. It was better they a.s.sumed she was sick than say she came from a motel.
The daughter of the owner, rushed to welcome them, as she was closer, she saw the love bites on Carl"s neck and blushed. Watching her blush irritated Kim, she wanted to smash her head for staring at her "husband". She closed her eyes, took a deep breath in and out to calm herself. When she opened her eyes the girl was still staring at Carl dreamily. Kim wanted to take out her eyes, she lost control and scolded the girl, "Did you come to serve us or stare at my husband?" Kim yelled, drawing the attention of others.
"The owner rushed to their table, pulling his daughter back, "I"m sorry for my daughter"s inappropriate behaviour," he apologized. Kim coughed to cover up her embarra.s.sment, Carl got up from his seat, rubbing her back. "It"s fine as long as she does not stare at my man." Kim managed to say. Carl really wanted to laugh, this is the most fun he has had in a while. He held himself back, "aheem," he cleared his throat. "My wife would like a plate of chicken soup." Carl said returning to his seat.
"What about you sir?" The owner asked in a very polite manner. Indeed he was a humble man whose customer service was superb not to mention his food was good so you could not pick any fault. "I"ll take today"s specialties."
The owner nodded, he turned around pulling his daughter along. He really wanted to scold her but he could not bear to do it in public.
Kim kicked Carl under the table, "What do you mean chicken soup? I"m starving, how can it satisfy me?" What is the difference between that and drinking plain water and a lump of meat? Yes it has nutrient, but she wanted something heavy to satisfy the monster in her stomach.
Carl pulled out his chair as he sat down next to Kim while rubbing her back. "My dear wife, I a.s.sumed you were on a diet." He looked at her stomach, smiling. Kim elbowed him, "ouch," he cried out. "Do you really want to kill your husband?" He questioned feigning hurt. "Any husband who suggests dieting deserves death."
"Yes, my wife is always right." He said patting her back. To others he was a sweet husband consoling his sick wife.
Not long, the owner returned with the chicken soup and the other food Carl ordered. He pulled the chicken soup closer, picked up the spoon. He put the spoon into the soup, carrying out a little soup, he blew on it before turning to Kim, "Wife, open up." He said, smiling brightly. He was really enjoy himself, no doubt about that. Kim opened her mouth because some of the customers were watching them. If it weren"t for them, she would have downed the chicken soup and taken the specialties meant for her "husband".
Because of the spiciness of the soup added to the hotness, Kim began sweating, she pulled down the blanket but her legs began to sweat too. Carl could not really complain seeing her sweat so he took the blanket away from her. At least, the curiousity of some had been satisfied, she was not naked.
