As Crystal stood atop the forecastle deck of the ashen maiden, the front most part of the ship, she observed the "attacking" monkey"s appearances for the first time."Capuchin"s?" She questioned, upon seeing the crowd of a few hundred monkeys, glaring and throw fruit at her from either side of the waterway that she had previously torn through the centre of the island.
Crystal had never actually seen a capuchin monkey in person before, as they had existed on an entirely different continent than the one her previous self had lived on, however, she had seen them dozens of times in various movies and TV shows, and thus could easily identify them with a single glance.
"But the sizes are all wrong..." she stated, noticing some of them to be around three feet tall, which, despite being a full foot shorter than her own current size, was still at least two feet taller than the tallest capuchin she had seen back on earth.
"And some of those colours aren"t even close to normal," she observed, seeing that, while the majority of them were coloured in the same manner as the capuchins she knew from earth, a few of the monkeys instead seemed to have very oddly coloured patterns covering their bodies instead. Dark blue, bright red, and dark green, were the most prevalent colours seen amongst the coloured ones, while the minority of the others had colours like bright yellow, light blue, and light green.
"The coloured ones, along with the larger ones, are likely the evolved versions of their species," Daisy stated in reply to Crystal"s observation.
She then, noticing something which Crystal herself hadn"t, quickly grabbed grabbed the imp by the shoulder and gently nudged her slightly to the side... just as a condensed ball of fire pa.s.sed through the s.p.a.ce in which she had previously occupied.
The ball of fire then exploded as it hit the foremast of the ship a few feet behind her, splattering its now burnt contents, a weeping blight plum, all over the surrounding deck.
"They"re also capable of using some primitive magic as well," the lich stated, not even turning to see where the plum impacted.
"So it"s true," thought Crystal as she looked at the lich, "cool people really don"t look at explosions."
"...Thanks," She said to Daisy a moment later, to which the lich gave a slight nod in response, as if to say, "but of course, mistress."
"Back in the day, when she still had skin, I"m sure the girls must"ve been swooning all over her," she added mentally with a slight smirk.
"Ah..." she though, suddenly remembering why she had come out on the deck in the first place, "I got a bit sidetracked there..."
Crystal then, keeping a slight distance from her ship"s rail, turned and shouted to a few of her crew which had been previously a.s.sembled on the ship"s main deck, along with a long narrow board with much smaller boards nailed to its surface in a ladder like fashion.
"Alrighty guys," she yelled to the ten a.s.sembled skeletons, "do the thing!"
The skeletons, in response to said orders, began lifting the plank together and unceremoniously tossed one end of it over the edge of the ship, creating a ramp which allowed travel between the ship"s main deck and the ground which existed on its right side.
They then retrieved five barrels from within the ships living quarters and began rolling them down the ramp one after another.
As they hit the ground, the barrels fell open, revealing their contents to the now cautiously observing monkeys.
Each of said barrels contained a different kind of fruit, bananas, oranges, apples, grapes, and pears.
"Haa..." Daisy sighed with poorly hidden disappointment upon seeing the skeletons" actions along with the contents of the barrels.
"I still think we should have poisoned the fruit first..." she quietly muttered under her nonexistent breath.
Crystal ignored the lich"s "joke" and instead watched the monkeys to see what their reaction would be...
After a minute of what seemed to be discussion amongst themselves, a select few of the monkeys began to slowly, and cautiously, approached the barrels and their spilled contents, gradually growing closer to base of the ramp, inch by inch.
Upon reaching the fruit, they investigated it, picked it up smelled it, hit it against other pieces of fruit, and then, realizing that it probably wasn"t dangerous promptly retreated with it back towards their allies.
The monkeys that they had brought the fruit to then repeated the same process as the others, and ultimately had the same reaction to it, they discarded the fruit without eating any of it.
"They don"t want it?" Crystal questioned, upon seeing their lackl.u.s.tre reactions to the fruit.
The lich, hearing the question, then replied with a question of her own.
"With all due respect, mistress," she began, "why did you think they would be appeased by mere fruit in the first place?"
"I thought that we had taken out their only source of food or something, when we split the island a month ago, leaving them with only the gross plum things," Crystal answered in a tired sounding tone as she pointed with her thumb to remains of the burnt plum which had previously been aimed at her head.
"Guess I guessed wrong though," she continued, "after all, they didn"t seem all that interested in the food at all."
Hearing this, the lich looked once again out towards the sea of multi coloured monkeys which still surrounded the ship.
Then, after staring at them intently for a moment, she spoke, "they do look a bit thin actually."
"Maybe they didn"t know it was food?" She questioned after a moment of thought.
Crystal then, having heard the lich"s statement, felt a sudden resurgence of her motivation.

"Well... lets go find out then, shall we," she said as she suddenly started making her way towards the ramp.
"M-mistress!?" Daisy questioned in a worried tone, not wanting Crystal to face unnecessary danger.
The imp in question, however, only gave a lighthearted reply as she made her way down the ramp to the beach, "don"t worry, I"m in avatar mode, so I"ll just resp.a.w.n at my core if I die."
"Right consultant?" She asked, speaking to overly condescending voice in her head.
"Affirmative," the androgynous voice replied immediately, "however it is still ill advised to-"
"She said yes," stated Crystal, interrupting the voice which only she could hear, she then gave the worried lich a thumbs up before wandered off, towards the crowd of monkeys.
Daisy, having remembered that Crystal"s true self was indeed still safe, ultimately relented and allowed her to follow her instincts.
The monkeys surrounding monkeys were utterly stunned by the imp before them, she approached alone, without even the slightest hesitation or fear, smiling as if she hadn"t a care in the world.
They hadn"t anyway of knowing that she was currently merely an avatar.
They hesitated, their hands still filled with the fruit they had been prepared to throw at the approaching person.
As the monkeys hesitated, Crystal calmly and steadily approached them, eventually coming to within a single metre of one of them, the one which Crystal believed to be the most normal looking of the bunch.
It was indistinguishable in both size and colour from the capuchin monkeys she had seen back on earth.
She then, having stopped in front of the monkey, picked up a single previously discarded banana from the ground between herself and the monkey, unpeeled it, and then, bit into it...
Crystal then stooped down extended her arm and offered it towards the monkey in question...
