Crystal stood alone in the middle of a dense snowy forest, it was the forest in which she had previously lived.Previously due to the fact that she was currently standing over the remains of her own previous self, now reduced to a mere pile of bones scattered and half buried in the snow. Several wolves eagerly gnawing away at them. Crystal, had become a ghost.
Upon looking over her current spiritual body in search of any injuries or abnormalities, Crystal came to the conclusion that her current condition was in fact completely identical, or at least very similar to when she had been alive, appearance wise at least.
And she was indeed correct. Messy, shoulder length, dirty blond hair, hazel eyes, a rainbow coloured hoodie, and dark grey sweatpants. Her shabby appearance was undoubtedly the same as it had always been.
Upon confirming the continuity of her current appearance, she once again returned to observing the wolves, and occasionally trying to curse them with her nonexistent ghost powers.
Crystal, naturally, having both felt, and later watched herself being eaten by said wolves, held no small amount of negative emotions towards them, however, as she herself was an avid meat eater as well, she could hardly blame their actions.
"Stupid dogs," was all she said to them in the end, completely unnoticed by the wolves themselves. As was the rude gesture she made towards them.
She then turned away from their pack and walked off into the surrounding forest, heading in the direction which she believed her yard to be in.
"Raven should be getting home right about now, I bet," she thought as she maneuvered herself through the densely packed trees of the forest. Raven being the nickname of Crystal"s twin sister,
Rachel. The origin of which being a cartoon the two used to watch as children.
"I might as well try to see her one last time before the reaper shows up to... you know, reap me," she
thought as she wore a slightly bitterly smile.
For the next couple minutes Crystal continued walking forwards through the forest in silence, leaving no footprints as she travelled, the cold wind now a mere sound with no perceivable substance.

It was then that she came across an old wooden sign, one that she had seen many times prior, its presence letting Crystal know that she was indeed only a short distance from her cabin.
She read the sign out of the corner of her eyes as she pa.s.sed its location, "Warning: do not feed the wild life, feeding the wildlife may be punishable by a fine of up to-" "Pfft!" She only managed to read halfway through before having to stifle a laugh, as it was a law that she had very clearly just broken.
"So I"m a criminal now eh?" She mused, "I wonder if sis will bail me out of ghost prison when she finds out? Hahahahaha!" She laughed out loud as she imagined how such a situation would play out.
Crystal then, still greatly amused by her own joke, continued forwards past the sign, still snickering as she went.
Then, after roughly another dozen metres of walking, just as she was about to reach her cabin"s yard, Crystal felt a sudden "pull" on her very being, and she instantly found herself back among the wolves, once again standing above her own previous self, her hopes of returning home thoroughly dashed.
A moment pa.s.sed as she stood there slightly stunned.
"...Haa..." she sighed, "no such luck eh?" She had quickly realizing the implications of her sudden teleportation.
"I guess... this is my home now," a small amount of sadness beginning to bud in her heart at the thought, and a small amount of moisture building in the corner of her eye as well.
Crystal once again turned her attention to the wolves, a futile attempt to prevent herself from crying.
A few moments later...
Crystal was startled when the wolf pack suddenly dispersed without warning, fleeing in terror in every direction but her own, as if she herself was the cause.
This however would be an incorrect a.s.sumption, as it was not Crystal who the wolves feared, but the being which had appeared directly behind.
"How cute," the being whispered in the most sombre tone Crystal had ever heard, only a single inch away from her ear, simultaneously using her index finger stealing the tear that had been growing in the corner of Crystal"s eye as she did so.
Crystal was too scared to even scream as she leapt away from her previous location, farther then she had ever leapt before. She then spun 180 degree to see the appearance of the interloper which had terrified her to such an extent.
Standing where Crystal once stood was a thirteen-ish year old girl. Her skin, which seemed far too pale to be healthy, contrasted heavily against her elbow length pitch black hair and her blood red irises. As clothing she wore a frilly, black and white, Gothic style dress, complete with white stockings, black shoes, and white elbow length gloves.
A moment pa.s.sed as the two silently observed each other, each seemingly waiting for the other to speak first.
"S-so... the grim reaper I presume?" Crystal asked awkwardly upon realizing the other party would not be the one to break the silence.
And at that comment, the girl in question, smiled.
Crystal really wished she hadn"t. The girl simply didn"t seem to have a face that was very compatible with the act of "smiling."
"No," responded the girl simply, she then licked the tear she had stolen from the tip of her index finger before continuing, "...I am nothing so paltry as death."
There was another awkward silence before she spoke once more, "My name is Sorrow, the G.o.ddess sadness and despair," she said while doing a slight curtsy.
Sorrow then immediately continued before Crystal could even begin to process the information she had just acquired, "I"ve come to deliver you a message on the behalf of my, um-..." she then froze for a moment, put her hand to her chin, and seemingly fell deep into thought,"... my partner?" she then added while tilting her head with uncertainty.
"You seem like you"d be a troublesome sort of partner to have," Crystal concluded internally.
Sorrow then snapped her fingers, an action which cued the appearance of three 2-D message boxes, they appeared side by side in front of Crystal, the first being coloured black, the second being blue, while the third was pink.
Crystal promptly began reading said boxes the moment they appeared as she felt it would likely be far more productive, and less scary, then talking to Sorrow.
[Sorrow, G.o.ddess of sadness and despair, would like to summon you to another world. Do you accept her offer?"
Note from sender: you"ll die if you don"t accept.]
"Looks like I"m gonna accept regardless of what the other two say... but might as well read them anyway," thought Crystal upon seeing the blatant threat pasted at the end of the message.
[The offers of Sorrow and Scree are a package deal, You may only accept both, or accept neither]
"Good, this ones a freebie," she thought before moving onto the third message.
[Scree, G.o.ddess of Imps and whimsy, would like you to become her official champion. Do you accept her offer?
Note from sender: Don"t worry you won"t have to actually do what I say or anything like that, and you can quit being my champion whenever you want to as well. I just get to pick what you reincarnate as and reward you when you do good... Just spreading whimsy throughout the land and maybe build me a shrine or something "kay?
P.S. It"s a fantasy world of swords and magic.]
"I accept!" She declared without hesitation upon reading through the final message box, a vigour that surprised even herself present in her voice. She liked fantasy stories as much as anybody after all.
It was those words that punctuated the end of both Crystal"s short life as a ghost, as well as her 19 year life as a human, as immediately following those words, darkness enveloped both her body and mind, and Crystal"s soul... vanished from the universe without a trace.
