HARBOR OF j.a.pPA.
j.a.ppa is the old Joppa of Bible times. It is almost the only approach to a seaport that Palestine can claim, yet even here large boats must remain out in deep waters, and travelers for the Holy Land who enter in this way must climb down the side of the steamer and be rowed to sh.o.r.e in small boats. The sea is usually very rough at this point, adding to the general discomfort of the situation for travelers.
ROSES OF SHARON.
Palestine is beautiful with flowers in the spring. Narcissus, the "roses of Sharon," and Iris, "the lilies of the valley," grow in profusion over the foothills.
