Those Sweet Times
Chapter 31 Part 2
Lin Chuyan noticed a pair of powder blue gloves on the table and asked:
“Bought new gloves?”
Xiang Nuan nodded: “En. I lost my gloves.”
So she had forgotten that she had given the gloves to Lin Chuyan.
Lin Chuyan fidgeted with something in his pocket, but he didn"t say anything
further on the subject.
After the meeting, Xiang Nuan didn"t want to eat any late night snacks
because she had found out that she had put on some weight. As Lin Chuyan
walked her to her dorm, they saw someone lining candles in the front.
The candle lights flickered in the dark night like stars all over the ground.
Many onlookers had gathered.
“Is someone having a memorial for his pet?” Xiang Nuan said to Lin Chuyan.
Then she saw a man in the crowd, with a bouquet of roses in hand, shouting
to the upper floors: “Xiang Nuan, I like you!”
Xiang Nuan: “...........................”
Someone upstairs opened the window to shout back in a high pitched voice.
Xiang Nuan recognized it was Min Lili: “Xiang Nuan doesn"t like you. Go away!”
The man wasn"t convinced: “How can you speak for her?”
“I"m her guardian!”
Amused by the development, Xiang Nuan pulled her scarf up to cover her
face and said to Lin Chuyan: “I"ll go in from another door.”
But it was too late. Someone had discovered her and told that man.
Onlookers always enjoy fanning the flames.
The man walked over with roses in arm. Xiang Nuan was so embarra.s.sed.
As he was getting close, an arm stretched in front of him, blocking his way.
It was Lin Chuyan"s arm. Lin Chuyan was taller and carried with him an
arrogant presence. He glanced over the man and said: “Xiang Nuan doesn"t
like you.”
“Who are you now?”
“I"m also her suitor.”
Xiang Nuan thought Lin Chuyan was really good at making up stories.
The man said: “Alright then, we"ll have a fair compet.i.tion.”
“It can"t be fair. You"re uglier than me.”
Now Xiang Nuan felt bad for the man.
If it was someone else who claimed to be better looking, the man probably
could argue about it. But it was Lin Chuyan, who was famous for his good
looks. There was no room for arguing when Lin Chuyan declared a man
was ugly.
The man was unwilling to admit it and looked at Xiang Nuan to say: “I believe
you are not that kind of person who only cares about looks, right?”
“No.” Xiang Nuan promptly shook her head: “I especially care about the looks.”
The man was very disappointed and, thankfully, finally left.
Lin Chuyan stayed with Xiang Nuan until the man walked away, then he
said goodbye to her.
“Thanks.” Xiang Nuan couldn"t help chuckling when she thought about what
had just happened.
“Actually,” Lin Chuyan felt that he should explain: “I seldom criticize other
people"s looks. But he……” He was just too annoying.
“I know. Thank you.” Her eyes sparkled in the night, looking up at him.
Lin Chuyan felt much better under the gaze of those pair of eyes. He smiled
and said: “My dad said that if someone really cares about you, the first thing
he should care about is your feeling.”
Xiang Nuan thought the words, though plain, made a lot of sense. She nodded:
“Uncle is a man with wisdom.”
“En.” Lin Chuyan agreed but thought it was too bad that he was just too stingy.
There was no perfect man.
