Chapter 18.2 - Humiliation of kneeling
Lou Lianxin shuddered. Lou Qingwu spoke cleverly, even though she was clearly talking about Dong Mei’s punishment, the way that she worded it meant that if she begged for forgiveness, then it would only make everyone suspicious.
But like that, Dong Mei’s life….
Her face darkened as Lou Lianxin looked at Lou Qingwu deeply.
Just before Lou Qufeng was about to get angry, she lifted up her head, “Yes, big sister’s right.” She gripped her handkerchief tightly, Lou Qingwu, you’re ruthless!
In only a few phrases, she could execute the confidant she had so carefully raised!
“Then we’ll do that!” Lou Qufeng’s mood was adversely affected because of this affair, especially when he thought about that red pearl.
His greed for the pearl only grew because he wasn’t able to get it, making his heart feeling blocked up. If it wasn’t for that maidservant, he would’ve gotten that deep sea pearl on his 40th birthday!
“For an imperially bestowed object, this punishment is already light enough! Drag her out then beat her to death!”
“Second miss …” Dong Mei was completely dumbstruck, death? She had never even considered dying!
Lou Lianxin threateningly glared at her: this miss will take care of your little brother, otherwise …
Dong Mei shuddered and finally lowered her head down.
She was quickly dragged out and from outside of the courtyard, a girl’s painful cries could be heard.
But not long after, the sounds quieted until it was silent.
Leaning Wind Pavilion become strangely quiet as Lou Qingwu watched the whole affair. Her mouth corners lightly curved up.
She wouldn’t feel sympathetic towards Dong Mei. As she was Lou Lianxin’s helper and she had partic.i.p.ated in many of Lou Lianxin’s affairs, the blood on her hands was no less than hers.
Lou Lianxin’s expression was incredibly dark and scary as she reluctantly lifted her head to face Lou Qufeng, “Daddy, because the bracelet’s been found, can we go back now? Big sister’s only come back so she needs to rest well.”
Lou Qufeng was just about to nod before hearing Lou Qingwu’s faint voice, light and gentle and innocent. “Thank you little sister but I’m not the least bit tired. After this affair, I’m actually feeling quite energetic. But my memory’s a bit bad. I can sort of remember that little sister said, if I could prove that I was innocent, I’d let everyone search my rooms and if it wasn’t me who did it, little sister would do what?”
Lou Lianxin became even gloomier.
Her fingers dug tightly into her palms and blood began to seep through. She lifted her head and was just about to ask her mother to speak for her.
How could she lower her head towards Lou Qingwu?
But as she met second madam’s eyes, second madam’s facial expression was gloomy as she shoo her head. Lou Lianxin was still reluctant but could only push down her resentment down.
She squeezed out a smile that looked worse than tears, “... Little sister falsely accused big sister, so of course I should apologise.”
After she spoke, Lou Lianxin tightly closed her eyes and fell to her knees. Her head bowed down deeply and gave Lou Qingwu a kowtow to apologise.
Lou Qingwu watched from above, then gently picked her up. “Little sister didn’t do it on purpose so next time, don’t be so careless with your things. It is an imperially bestowed item after all. If little sister loses it a few more times, who knows when you’ll lose your life too?”
Hearing the hidden meaning in her words, Lou Lianxin could only grit her teeth, “Big sister’s right.”
She had always thought that Lou Qingwu was just some lowly fool but now, in only a few words, she had tricked her.
After Dong Mei’s affairs, if she still underestimated her, then she would be the real fool!
She definitely wouldn’t take this lying down!
The humiliation of kneeling, she would definitely get revenge for this!
Lou Qingwu watched as everyone followed Lou Qufeng’s lead to leave.
When she finally couldn’t see them any more, then she slowly turned around.
But only after two steps, her ears slightly twitched, her steps slowed and soundlessly moved to the main wing.
Just as she disappeared, two silhouettes appeared in the empty courtyard.

TL note:
Kowtow was satisfying but Dong Mei’s death wasn’t, especially with how Lou Lianxin uses her death in a few chapters.
