Chapter 185.1 - Lost the child
Ruan Zhen looked at Chi Mei’er, smiling, “Mei’er little sister, can you give me two rolls? Another day, I’ll buy ten rolls of brocade from Sizhen building to exchange you for them, okay?”
“Sizhen building?” Chi Mei’er heard ‘Sizhen building’ and her eyes lit up.
Who didn’t know that Sizhen building had the best brocade in the capital?
Even though the imperially bestowed brocade rolls were expensive, but swapping two for ten?
No matter how she looked at it, she was profiting.
Chi Mei’er hurried to wave her hands, “See what big sister is saying, if you want to take them, just take them. Isn’t mine yours, big sister?”
The two people held each other hands tightly, like close sisters.
But their hearts were thinking different things.
Ruan Zhen smiled slyly, let’s see if she can smile after this?
The red scorpion voodoo worm had already been inside of her for fourteen hours and it seemed like it was about to activate.
Wasn’t it just ten rolls of brocade?
To swap it for this child, it was worth it!
Ruan Zhen felt at east, the laughter in her face deepening as she comforted Chi Mei’er.
She ordered the servants to take the brocade into the inner halls.
Instantly, the inner hall was filled with a strange scent but because the scent was light, you wouldn’t really notice it unless you were trying to smell it.
Lou Qingwu sat down calmly and sipped her tea, watching the scene.
Lan Bai stood behind her, finding Ruan Zhen’s actions strange.
She watched her alertly, scared that she’d do something to harm her master.
Ruan Zhen leaned in closer and smelt the brocade, smelling that strange smell.
Her eyes curved as she looked over the brocade rolls and picked and chose the ones she liked.
In the end, like she was really hesitating, she pulled Chi Mei’er over, “Little sister, my eyes are blurring over, help me pick two rolls.”
“That …” Chi Mei’er looked down, she looked at the sleek brocade rolls and couldn’t help but reach out and touch them.
But as her hand reached out, she also felt a bit strange.
This was the first time she had seen something that was imperially bestowed and even her eyes were blurring over.
She liked every single roll so in the end, she just carelessly chose two of them, “These pale purple ones would suit your skin, big sister.”
“Good! Just these two then!” Ruan Zhen waved at them as she pointed for her maidservant Qiu Chi to move the two.
But maybe the brocade rolls were too heavy or something else, but when she walked past Ruan Zhen, she slipped and fell down.
The brocade rolls in her hands fell to the ground and the tea cups also fell down, splashing tea on the two rolls.
Qiu Chi quickly kneeled down, “Madam, please punish me, I didn’t do it on purpose!”
“So careless! Whatever, get up. It’s only tea, go clean it up well!” It was rare for Ruan Zhen to be so generous as she pulled Chi Mei’er and started to caution her about the dangers of pregnancy.
Qiu Chi heard this and quickly thanked her for not punishing her.
But when she stood up to pick up the brocade rolls again, the brocade rolls had turned black in colour.
“AH! Madam!” She shrieked.
Everyone suddenly turned to her as even Lou Qingwu looked up from her tea.
Her eyes were dark as she followed Lou Qufeng over to where she was.
“What happened? Calling out so loudly, so impolite!” Lou Qufeng was furious but when he followed Qiu Chi’s eyes, his face also darkened.
He growled, “What is this? Why did the brocade turn black?”
“This servant … this servant doesn’t know. The brocade was fine before but it was just this tea, and then it suddenly became like this.” Qiu Chi was about to cry as she kneeled and kowtowed.
But as her head faced downwards, her mouth corner curled up into a mocking smile.
