Chapter 99.2 - Not stopping until death
Lou Qingwu put down her book and stood up, “What happened?”
“Master, you should first take a look at this.” Lan Bai pa.s.sed the thing in her hands to Lou Qingwu.
Lou Qingwu took it and it was a brown box that wasn’t too small or too large.
On its lid, there were complex markings carved in it.
Lou Qingwu opened the box and when a dark brown silk fabric appeared, Lou Qingwu’s expression became very complicated.
“Master, this is the case files that young official Mu wrote down. He said he really couldn’t take out that year’s files so all he could do was personally rewrite another copy.”
“What else did he say?”
Lou Qingwu held the case files, her expression was complicated and held a bit of disbelief.
Lan Bai’s nose felt a bit sour, “He said, that this was Miss Su Sheng’s dying wish and he wanted to help her complete it. He’s already resigned from the justice department and went to …”
“Where did he go?”
Lou Qingwu’s heart suddenly had a bad feeling.
About ten miles from the capital in Puzhao temple, a spiral of smoke spiralled upwards as the rhythmic sound of the wooden fish instruments resonated in people’s ears.
A man faced the door with his back, he knelt on the thin praying mat, dressed in a plain long gown.
His long grey hair hung to his waist as his back showed desolation and despair.
Puzhao temple’s abbot as well as a monastery child walked in front of him.
The abbot looked at his empty expression and sighed, “Are you truly willing to convert to monkshood?”
The man slightly but firmly nodded.
The abbot raised his hands, “Amitabha Buddha. Seeing as you’ve decided, then let us prepare to shave your hair.”
Lou Qingwu brought Lan Bai with her and as they rushed there but when they finally reached the temple, the final strands of hair had just fallen off the man’s bald head.
The floor was covered in grey hair.
The atmosphere was cold and brittle, making it hard for people to breathe.
Lan Bai was the first to be unable to control herself as she quickly turned around and covered her mouth, m.u.f.fling her cries.
She didn’t know how Miss Su Sheng could be so vicious.
Even if she only had one or two years left, at least, she could let young official Mu have some memories.
But now he had to hold all of Su Sheng’s hatred and continue to live, how could that be so simply described as suffering?
Lou Qingwu pursed her lips as she watched the man turn around, his plain gown and wooden face brought a sense of indifference.
He looked at her, his hands clasped together, “.... Amitabha Buddha.”
Lou Qingwu’s hands that held prayer beads suddenly tightened.
She slowly walked towards him, pa.s.sing him the prayer beads. “This, was left to you by Su Sheng.”
In the end, her heart softened.
Su Sheng, I hope that in your final moments, you truly don’t regret your decision today.
Right until they left Puzhao temple, Lou Qingwu’s dispirited heart didn’t give any signs of brightening up.
The two people returned to the carriage and after they left, Lou Qingwu lifted up a curtain.
She turned back to look at the Puzhao temple that slowly faded from sight, silently regretting, “I don’t know who suffered more in this life, him or Su Sheng.”
Lan Bai’s eyes were already reddened as she shook her head, “Miss Su Sheng will definitely regret this.”
Lou Qingwu was silent and didn’t reply.
The horse carriage slowly made its way back towards the capital but before they could return, half way, the horse carriage was attacked.
Lou Qingwu and Lan Bai were kidnapped.
Lou Qingwu had rushed towards the temple because she heard about Mu Yunqing’s news and in master, only brought a single person to drive their carriage, this time, she was too careless.

TL note:
Amitabha Buddha - kinda like Amen in Christian religions. It"s just something they say.
