Chapter 204: Subst.i.tution
Director Liu really was small-minded.
He really thought that he had a few connections himself. At least he met a few Historians despite not having any overlaps in his work.
Just like Professor Tang.
Even thought they haven’t cooperated before, he had now met him through this situation.
He’d have to get to know a few more others in order to spread the word about Shen Jing Yi. There’s no way he could let her mess him up again.
The more Director Liu thought about it, the more anger he felt rising in his stomach. He really got ripped off this time!
The script had to be rewritten.
The cast’s schedule had to be reorganised since the scriptwriting team had to reorganise their work too.
Those who couldn’t line up with the new schedules then had to be replaced.
The newfound actors then perhaps wouldn’t be as ideal as the ones casted previously.
Most obviously, the budget would now be increased due to the overwhelming delay of the entire process.
Money that is used for investment doesn’t come by a gust of the wind.
It wasn’t like he go on a splurge with him as director this time round.
“I would’ve never thought that Shen Jing Yi had this kind of character. She was following in my footsteps – her skills really are up to level. If not, I wouldn’t have sent her to yours. I initially wished to help. It really wasn’t in my mind to create such a mess.” Professor Tang didn’t even look at the script, yet had already decided that there were huge problems with the script since Tan Mo commented on it.
“Yes.” Director Liu followed along the lines of his words. “I firmly believe that you would not have sent someone here lightly. Those who can be your students are definitely those with potential and skill. No one could have seen this coming – please don’t blame it on yourself.”
“Everyone has their own opinions. You can’t change that. You never knew she’d turn out like this.” Director Liu didn’t even bother sugarcoating his words as he said so in front of her. “Not only has she bothered me, but she’s also moreover taken advantage of you. She took on as being your student, yet did nothing in contribution. You personally sent her over, but she didn’t put her heart into working at all. Those who were small-minded would logically think that you only just casually sent someone over. Isn’t that just her trying to defame you?”
Director Liu had already decided to spread the word about Shen Jing Yi’s unreliability. Why would he show her remorse here?
Shen Jing Yi turned pale.
There were only two students there that came under Professor Tang’s name.
One was Tan Mo, and the other was her.
But Shen Jing Yi was very certain that Director Liu was talking about her!
They already thought that it was her fault even when Professor Tang hadn’t read the script.
Professor Tang sighed. “The entire situation’s already blown up this hugely. This is my responsibility. No matter what others say, I was the one who brought her over. Even though she was the one who did it, I was the one who couldn’t see her true colours. My lack of judgement was what added trouble to you all.”
Professor Tang halted for a second, and said, “If you all don’t mind and will have me, I’ll gladly be your show’s consultant.”
He needed to make amends for the havoc his student caused.
“Professor Tang!” Director Liu was shocked speechless.
He…he would’ve never thought that such a mess would bring about such a fortune too!
Despite getting snitched by Shen Jing Yi, he managed to switch her out in exchange for professor Tang!
“Are you sure this is okay?” Director Liu licked his lips and was about to rub his hands together.
There was no way that one could just have Professor Tang join there team like this!
The only reason Ho Yue Hai was able to have Professor Tang join him was because of their personal relations.h.i.+p.
Just like this time, it was because of Hou Yue Hai that professor Tang’s students could make an appearance. Professor Tang coming over himself was unexpected.
“There’s nothing wrong with that.” Professor Tang said bluntly. “Misdemeanour by my students would of course have to be carried by me as their teacher. Depends on you. Do you want me to?”
“Definitely! Of course, I’d want you to!” How can one decline such an offer?
Director Liu nodded eagerly – his response was immediate. It was like when an elderly had given a toddler the permission to eat some sweets.
He had already now let his mind wander off to far places.
Once they started filming, they could use Professor Tang to spread the word.
With Professor Tang advising the play, the audience would be rea.s.sured in it’s quality.
This would be a sincere and genuine historical play.
There wouldn’t be a situation where there’d be weird twist and turns that came out of the blue.
Just the reputation of this play would already set a solid foundation for their opening.
“Alright. I’ll go over the script as soon as possible and let you know.” Professor Tang nodded. “Just tell Shen Jing Yi directly to come back. If I’m being honest, it doesn’t matter if I read this script or not. Tan Mo isn’t the kind of person to babble her mouth. If she said that there were issues, then there are definitely issues. But I’ll reread it to rea.s.sure you. Just make sure Shen Jing Yi doesn’t mess anything up on your end.”
Professor Tang messed up two words.
It seemed like they really couldn’t stand Shen Jing Yi.
Director Liu thanked Professor Tang once again and hung up. He looked at Shen Jing Yi. “Teacher Shen, what Professor Tang meant was that you should head back first. There’s no need for you to be a part of the scriptwriting team anymore.”
Director Liu had already calculated all of this perfectly. But when it came to Shen Jing Yi, he was actually quite polite.
His att.i.tude threw her off.
Was Director Liu talking about someone else? Possibly Tan Mo, and not her?
She looked suspiciously at Tan Mo for a second.
But if it wasn’t her, then why was she getting sent away?
Director Liu, about the script…” Shen Jing Yi asked hesitantly.
She only heard fragments of the call just now. Naturally, she couldn’t hear Professor Tang’s voice.
Which was why she didn’t know that Director Liu had already told Professor Tang to read it again.
“It’s nothing.” Director Liu acted as if nothing had happened. “It was mostly as Tan Mo said, some parts of the play weren’t written good enough. Not that big of a deal. We don’t need to waste you talent here.”
Shen Jing Yi heard his words – it felt like as if something was off.
Why did it seem like he was being sarcastic. His words stung.
But no matter how hard she tried to figure it out, she couldn’t pin point just exactly what was wrong.
“It’s not just the script.” Shen Jing Yi forcibly laughed. “Isn’t there work backstage? Or stuff regarding the mannerisms of the time period that need fixing up? I could help with those.”
Director Liu looked at her and said. “Oh, don’t worry about that. The cast hasn’t even been split up into groups. Not like you can teach anyone right now. I think that’d be at least a week away. You can come then, I guess. There is no need for you to procrastinate here – an entire week too.”
“I don’t have much to do anyways…” Shen Jing Yi didn’t want to go on her gut instinct.
If she left, thing would go astray.
“If you stay here without doing anything for a week, you’d be eating up our accommodation and catering costs.” Yan Jin Qi told her.
Not only would she be just lazing around, she’d also be wasting the crew’s money.
“We calculate our budget very seriously. There’s no room for leisurely spending.” The only thing that Tan Jin Qi failed to say was that they didn’t spare out money to treat her to a seven day holiday here.
Shen Jing Yi was left speechless.
Director Liu laughed. “It’s the crew’s fault in notifying you to come by this early. I’m sorry about that. The flight ticket back will be covered by us.”
Let’s send the one that made this mess away first.
