Chapter 386: "Have dinner with me tomorrow?" (1)

Shu Yan didn’t think too much but gave Chen Fei a call. The phone was picked up quickly and a somewhat emotional voice told her, “Xiuxiu had given birth. Our little princess came at 7 PM last night, 7 ½ lbs. It was very hectic at the time and we finally get around to giving you a call this morning.”

“I thought her expected due date was November. How come she’s early by so much?” It seemed Zhang Huaxiu had given birth some 20 days early. Shu Yan wasn’t sure if that would be considered a premmie.

“Xiuxiu had always been healthy. Perhaps she had been too busy lately which prompted the baby to come early. The doctor said we have already past 37 weeks and it will not be considered a premature birth so we didn’t try to wait,” said Chen Fei, elated.

Shu Yan never given birth herself. Even with original owner, there was no such thing as expected due date or pre-natal checkup. They just had the midwife went to their place when she was ready to give birth. Shu Yan didn’t know much about giving birth.

“As long as she is full term. 7 ½ lbs is no small baby. Which hospital are you at?” Regardless, she wanted to go visit them.

“People’s Hospital. You don’t need to come. We will be heading home soon.”

“Alright then. I will swing by your place this afternoon to visit Xiuxiu and the baby,” said Shu Yan with a smile.

She didn’t even know what they give as gifts for newborns here in City Nan so Shu Yan would just be creative. She got them two sets of winter outfits, one baby towel, two bath towels, two small hats and two pairs of cotton shoes. She also got them five pigeons. She heard that those were good for replenishment. She had the pigeons prepared. Zhang Huaxiu had a refrigerator at home so that would not be a problem. Shu Yan also had a red envelope ready. Just 800 yuan, not a large amount, but a lucky amount.

She and Chen Fei would be staying home for the first month. Zhang Huaxiu had no mother-in-law so they had to have Mother Zhang gone over to their place. Wu Xiuyue had to watch her shop so her son had to stay there as well. Lucky they had purchased a 3 bedroom 2 living room place. It would not otherwise be able to hold all these people.

Shu Yan knocked on the door and it was Mother Zhang who opened the door. She was very happy when she saw Shu Yan. “Aiya, you are such a busy lady you didn’t need to come over.”

“Of course I have to now that Xiuxiu had given birth.” Shu Yan handed the gifts over to Mother Zhang. “Xiuxiu is inside?”

“Oh, look at you. You didn’t need to bring so much stuff with you to visit.” What Shu Yan brought with her could definitely be considered fancy. Mother Zhang took the gifts from Shu Yan and put them aside before taking Shu Yan to Xiuxiu’s room. She was feeding the baby at the time and gave Shu Yan a happy smile when she saw her.

The baby eyes were still closed and its face red. One could still tell that she had big eyes and a perky nose. She would grow up to be a pretty one.

Shu Yan placed the red envelope on the child and said with a smile, “Not too much. I wish the baby to be healthy and smart.”

“Aiya, I can’t accept that.” Zhang Huaxiu removed it from the baby and wanted to give it back to Shu Yan.

“With our current income. We really don’t need to go back and forth over a red envelope that’s only several hundred yuan. It’s just a blessing. Just take it.” After the baby was fed, Shu Yan took the baby over gently. Her heart melted when she saw the baby smacking her lips.

Zhang Huaxiu was leaning in bed with a hat on and smiling at the baby with motherly love. “I thought I had an upset stomach yesterday when the discomfort started. Then I got worried when the baby stopped moving. I was already dilated two finger’s width by the time we got to the hospital. She is a good child and didn’t make me suffer much. She came after just three hours.”

Even Zhang Huaxiu found that comical when she thought about it. She ran to the bathroom over ten times yesterday morning and thought she had an upset stomach. When the discomfort increased in the afternoon, she called up Chen Fei and he thought she had an upset stomach as well. Mainly her expected due date was still 20 or so days out and neither one of them thought it would happen so soon.
