"Miss Fang, I will be the one who will be examining you today since my master has contracted a gastric intestinal problem." Fang Xiang nodded in understanding. His master is probably too nervous to face head-on with the general"s frigid stare. His future looks bleak. "I am the apprentice of physician Li, called Mo Juefeng. You can call me as you like since I am still not a full-fledged physician."

Fang Xiang nodded, flicking her sleeves just enough to show her left wrist.

Mo Juefeng smiled amicably before using a thin handkerchief to separate the contact between the two opposite genders.

Fang Xiang raised an eyebrow, clearly not used to the unconventional treatment method between the contrasting eras.

Mo Juefeng smiled, "Miss Fang, you have no excess internal heat in your body, and your pulse is steady. Just remember to take the medicinal broth to accelerate the healing of your wound."

Fang Xiang hummed in understanding, "Sir Mo, when will my wound fully heal?"

"Your wound will completely heal in a few months time. It will take half a year at its longest." Mo Juefeng answered, his voice flowed like gentle waves. "Now, I will need to reapply your medicine to prevent the wound from forming a scab. If a scab forms, it will take longer for your injury to heal. So it"s best to reapply medicine once or twice a day."

"System, is this necessary?" Fang Xiang slightly grimaced at the last sentence, not favoring the idea of constantly feeling pain when the medicine is administered to her open wound.

"I don"t know, I am not a medical pract.i.tioner."

"You"re really unhelpful." Fang Xiang mentally rolled her eyes. "Well, at least there"s a saying that goes like listen to your doctor. Who is he anyway, System? Is he trustable?"

"Let me check the main interface, Host." The system paused for a few seconds before continuing. "His information attests that he is trustable, Host. He is just a side character that isn"t even incorporated in the plot. He never once showed up in front of the female protagonist."

"I see. Thanks, System. I wonder what would happen to the plot if he"s included in it." Fang Xiang pondered silently. "Will the female protagonist try to chase this one-of-kind Adonis? It will be very entertaining to watch."

"Do whatever you like." The system replied lazily. He just needs his Host to finish the missions after all.

Mo Juefeng, who thinks that the girl in front of him is absorbing the given information, stood silently at her bedside. His eyes naturally fixate on the girl"s beautiful features, imprinting her image in his mind.

"En, understood," Fang Xiang nodded obediently after a few moments of silence.

"Then shall we proceed directly with the treatment?"

"Sure, Sir Mo."

.

After nearly two weeks of relaxing, sleeping and eating for Fang Xiang, the Huo Empire army finally marched back to the city.

The peace treaty with the Jun Empire was successfully signed. Ping Shangye and co was released as promised, and the two opposing armies parted ways.

During the way back, Fang Xiang and her brothers encountered an ambush, as per written in the story. But this time, since they are more in number and there are fewer casualties in war, the enemies appeared to have miscalculated as there are fewer numbers of professional a.s.sa.s.sins a.s.signed.

The Huo Empire"s soldiers were further reduced to less than half, close to a fourth of the original number.

When the a.s.sa.s.sins were all defeated, Guan Chengyi left some alive, intending to force information out of them, only to end up in disappointment as the survivors had bitten their tongue off as means of suicide. There were no evidence or possessions left by the a.s.sa.s.sins. They all came emptyhanded.

After checking for the a.s.sa.s.sins" breath and determined that they were all dead, Guan Chengyi decided to leave their bodies be and proceeded on to the city. Of course, the army didn"t neglect to mourn the corpses of their dead comrades by praying for them.

On their journey to the city, not once did they stumble upon the female protagonist, which Fang Xiang deemed was a good thing. Well, one can never be too cautious. What if the general ended up being entranced just by glancing at the female lead? She"ll end up failing the mission, which is not a good thing at all.

Fang Xiang s.h.i.+fted on her seat, trying to find a better position as she viewed the outside scenery from the open window.

Fang Xiang originally should"ve mounted on her black horse, who is presently following alongside the carriage with no rider present. But because her injury was too fatal, and would rip open if she were to ride on her trusty steed, she was given a carriage instead.

Mo Juefeng was in the same carriage as Fang Xiang since he was appointed to be her temporary physician, despite not being one yet, because his Master"s condition had conveniently worsened.

Fang Xiang was positive that Mo Juefeng"s master was simply feigning ill to avoid the general since she had seen their interactions several times before. The poor physician was always scared out of his wits whenever Guan Chengyi was in near his vicinity, despite them standing ten feet apart from one another.

But this works ideally in accordance with her plan.

Mo Juefeng was to serve as a bait to entertain the female lead while she will have to find ways to distract the male lead from getting interested with the female lead. But then again, this foolproof plan might not work since female leads always end up with dragon amongst dragons.

In other words, Mo Juefeng"s status isn"t distinguished enough to spark the female lead"s desire to pursue him.

Even the second male lead, Guan Chengyi, was served as a fodder despite his rather high status as the empire"s talented general.

What a pity.

.

Fang Xiang flicked her fan open and covered half of her face when she unrolled the blinds in the carriage.

Her eyes crinkled as she looked out at the busy streets.

The Huo Emperor decided to hold a festival to welcome the soldiers back from the war. So the Huo Empire"s citizens had come out of their houses, pheasants and n.o.bilities alike, to commemorate the victory and the losses.

Cheers and shouts of congratulations were heard, and the citizens" faces of absolute respect were seen s.h.i.+ning in their eyes as they gazed at the general.

But of course, there were also some with sour faces. Jealousy was perspicuously painted in their features. One of them caught Fang Xiang"s eye when he dashed out of the sea of people, pus.h.i.+ng and shoving them out of his way as he fled.

"System, is he a spy?" Fang Xiang asked as she narrowed her eyes at the direction the man went.

"Mhm." The system made a sound of agreement.

"Who is he working for?" Fang Xiang asked curiously. "Is he working for one of the empires, or is he operating for one of the officials in the bureaucracy? Perhaps one of the royalties?"

Fang Xiang tried to recapture his features in her mind as she only observed him for an instant before he disappeared. She remembered his common black hair and his commoner outfit that can be purchased from any street vendors. There wasn"t anything special or out of place. His appearance, in fact, is very common that you can just overlook him in a crowd, that is why no one suspected anything amiss, not even the great general.

"He is working for one of the royal family members."

"I see…" Fang Xiang trailed off as she once again tried to recall his appearance. "Ah!" Fang Xiang widened her eyes. It finally dawned on her; Just as he was shoving away one of the citizens in the crowd, something small flashed in the light — It was a silvery white pendant.

"System, which faction of the royal family does a white jade pendant represents?"

"You already know who it is, why ask?" The system inwardly rolled his eyes.

Fang Xiang ignored her system"s reply and was once again drowned in her own thoughts. Her hands that were once holding onto the curtain and the fan was long put down as she sat across Mo Juefeng thoughtfully.

Mo Juefeng studied the girl in front of him as his mind sank in contemplation. He was speculating about why the girl had donned a serious mask when all she had to do was to receive her rewards. But then again, who wouldn"t be nervous in front of the royal family. She was probably deliberating about how she should conduct herself in front of them.

Having his puzzles sorted out, Mo Juefeng opened the blinds, just enough for him to watch the celebration without revealing the lady in front of him.
