Trapped In Time

Chapter 59

The tunnels were made in all the towns but all of them did not lead directly into the Time experiment cave as the tunnel to the Time experiment cave was hidden by a rock-like curtain. It was only in Town M that the curtain had been left open. Lilly looked at Mono and asked that he had left the curtain open deliberately. She knew that it was Mono"s doing that the group of trekkers was there with them.

Mono admitted that he had done so because he wanted to meet them, talk to them, help them and also get to know about life in the cities above.

Mono had said that what he was doing at that time was wrong but it seems instead of my helping them, they all helped me, actually, they helped all of us.

Lilly agreed and said that they thought that in their Utopia world t they had created a civilization that was beyond petty things, but what had they achieved living in isolation for the last 250 years?

Mono agreed and said we have become what we never wanted to become.

Sherpa gave his expert comments that to err is human but we should learn from our mistakes and try to become better human beings. Initially, the people in these towns worked for the betterment of their people but along the way, greed and the need to control the people and then the Ego factor took over and the entire mind of the Administrators changed. Sadly, no one wants to learn from their mistakes. Actually, they want to blame others for the mistakes committed by them.

There is a saying, "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely". It seems that the people here do not know about checks and balances between the Legislature, Executive and the Judiciary. The legislature is to make the rules in Parliament of any country, The Executive is to see how these rules framed are to be implemented. The job of the Judiciary is to check that the rules framed or being executed are in no way detrimental to the people. That they are as per the framework of the const.i.tution of that country. In case any rule is violative of the provisions of the Const.i.tution, then those rules or executive instructions can be declared null and void. The Judiciary can also direct that the rules need to have a few additional provisions or some need to be deleted or changed to be in accordance with the Const.i.tution.

Sherpa was giving a long lecture and everyone was listening. The students, because it pertained to the subject of Political Science. Mono and Lilly as it gave them an insight on how the Administration needed to be managed. Luke and Zia as it enhanced their knowledge. Being Science students and Science teachers many things they were not fully aware of.

Sherpa had a lot of knowledge. He further added, "The Time experiment was not to know the future just to travel there and know the progress or to correct your own course. The actual experiment was to learn how to rule the cities above. It was an ego thing otherwise one Time Machine experiment would have been enough. Why did the Chief Administrator take up the project in each town?"

Mono and Lilly started to think deeply about this. The words of Sherpa were food for thoughts indeed. Even the Orbs understood what Sherpa was trying to say. They had an Orb who could speak (Niel) and he conveyed all the conversation to the rest of the Orbs. Walking with so many Orbs there was a lot of people crowd the tunnel.

They had covered quite a distance and were almost near the entrance cave. But they did not go to the inner cave but on the side, there was a rock curtain which Lilly pressed from the side and the curtain slid to one side.

"This curtain is made of hard bark of a tree and died black so that it gives a rocky surface. Even if you touch it, you will not know it is a curtain as it will feel like the continuation of the rock side of the tunnel."

"There is a lever at the side which activated the pulley of the curtains to pull back." Lilly stepped in and bid others to follow her.

They were almost in the center of the small cave-like room with a huge raised bed like those found in the operation theater of a hospital. There were a lot of machines and some in a working situation.

"Welcome! This is my little laboratory," Feel free to see everything here but do not touch anything as any wrong tinkling with any of the stuff here, will take my experiment to the starting point. I am almost at the final stage to be completed within a week."

"We don"t have a week," said Nanu.

"Of Course we have!" replied Chris. Have you forgotten that the time of the people here has been frozen until they are released by the hypnotizing apparatus?"

"Yes, and when we go to our city via the fast tunnel and land in the city in their care house, we will reach on the day we are supposed to have reached, responded Zoya.

"It is difficult to explain but remember, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", a fantasy novel for children written by C. S. Lewis. It was published by Geoffrey Bles in 1950. It is the first published and best known of seven novels in The Chronicles of Narnia. Among all the author"s books, it is also the most widely held in libraries. This Chronicles of Narnia were made into 3 movies later."

"In that book and in the first movie also, the children get into the Wardrobe and end up in a different world called Narnia. After meeting a lot of adventures, being crowned there, they grow up and become adults."

"Once they were riding their horses in that very area where they walked out of the wardrobe into Narnia. They recognize the place and slowly make their way to the fir trees to see if it was real. They pa.s.s the fir trees and enter the wardrobe and then they tumble out of the wardrobe as children."
