Chapter 1539 Divine Magic Arts Displayed
After spending two long hours contemplating all the items in the System store, Xu Que had finally decided on his divine and celestial magic choices.
While everything in the System store was being provided to him free of charge, a fantastic opportunity, where divine and celestial magic arts were concerned, one couldn’t be too careful.
Xu Que was very clear on the principle that it didn’t serve one well to be greedy, nor to bite off more than one could chew.
In the process of skill cultivation, any minor mishap could quite possibly result in conflicts in the celestial arts and, ultimately, a Qi deviation. Hence, there was a need to be cautious.
Of course, with the System with him at all times, Xu Que didn’t have to worry too much about any potential conflicts.
What he was truly concerned about was pursuing the pinnacle of perfection. This required him to combine his strengths and weaknesses in the process of skill cultivation, in order to make himself more well-rounded and more powerful.
That explained why he had spent two hours picking out 23 different types of divine magic arts and eight of the top celestial arts: ST23 and D8 for short. Once the letters and numbers had been sorted out and paired accordingly, the result would be simply horrifying, mysterious, and unpredictable.
Upon confirmation, the selected divine and celestial magic arts were directly sent to his inventory by the System.
Overcome with desire, Xu Que clicked on the “Select all” and “Apply” b.u.t.tons in one swift motion, acquiring the skills instantly.
He stood at the foot of the stairs to the Heaven Palace Sect, maintaining his distance but not once leaving his spot.
He closed his eyes and, with his robe swaying gently in the wind, he stood motionless as a statue.
In less than a minute, every divine and celestial magic art that Xu Que had selected from the System store began to take form in his mind and evolved from an unfamiliar skill to a well-rehea.r.s.ed one.
After taking a few deep breaths, Xu Que opened his eyes in a flash. His eyes were now as vast and deep as...o...b..ting planets, but before long, they reverted to their normal appearance. Similarly, his ears shuddered slightly before they became still again.
Yet, with a single glance and a single sound, he could see a glimpse of the future.
“Now this is interesting!”
The corners of Xu Que’s mouth turned up in a smile.
He had just tried to use two divine magic arts, “the art of foreseeing all future calamities” and “the art of unfettered divine hearing” (“calamity-foreseeing art” and “divine hearing art” for short).
The former enabled one to learn all about upcoming disasters, even the most unspeakable calamities.
The latter, on the other hand, allowed one to enjoy unfettered divine hearing anywhere and everywhere. All the sounds in the world could be heard by the person who owned the art, and it was up to them whether or not they wanted to listen to those sounds.
To put it simply, the single glance he’d taken just now had enabled him to foresee an imminent incident that had something to do with people and, more important, him.
From what he had heard just now, he could tell from thousands of miles away, that the person who was present in his premonition was about to appear.
TSK! TSK! TSK!
The ten great celestial magic arts are indeed as powerful as they are said to be. Should I be able to master all of the ten great celestial arts someday, I could be the almighty ruler of heaven and earth. Xu Que felt an upsurge of emotion in his heart. He had merely experienced two of the ten great celestial arts, but he already knew how mighty and formidable they were, and he still possessed eight other celestial arts.
But, at the moment, it was critical to do some preparation.
The person who was coming from thousands of miles away and was about to be involved in an incident with him was already on the way here.
The image that Xu Que had foreseen just now was one of him waiting at the foot of the mountain, thinking of a way to sneak into the Heaven Palace Sect to join the recruiting conference.
In the end, a cultivator at the Celestial King stage had descended from the sky at full speed and landed right beside Xu Que. After darting a glance at Xu Que, the cultivator had frowned and asked Xu Que if he had come to take part in the Heaven Palace Sect’s disciple-recruiting conference.
In his premonition, Xu Que had lied, saying yes to the cultivator’s question without even batting an eye.
Unexpectedly, upon hearing Xu Que’s reply, the cultivator had instantly summoned a middle-grade Celestial Artifact, a flying sword, and swung it at Xu Que.
Xu Que dodged the blow by a hair’s breadth and interrogated the cultivator on his motive for attacking him. In response to this, the cultivator explained his reasons for doing so, all the while continuing to attack Xu Que.
It turned out that a recruitment pa.s.s was required for one to gain admission to the Heaven Palace Sect’s recruiting conference. The Celestial King cultivator had made plans with a confidante of his to enter the Heaven Palace Sect to further cultivate their skills together. But alas, despite his greatest efforts, he had only managed to acquire a single recruitment pa.s.s. Ultimately, following a series of exchanges in which both parties offered to give up the pa.s.s to each other, it was decided that this Celestial King cultivator would enter the Heaven Palace Sect alone.
But as it happened, this cultivator had b.u.mped into Xu Que at the foot of the mountain and found out that Xu Que was also there to attend the recruiting conference. This information made him reach the conclusion that Xu Que had a recruitment pa.s.s on him too. Moreover, Xu Que was only at the level of a Golden Celestial of the Great All-Embracing Heaven in his cultivation stage. Hence, an impulse to kill Xu Que in order to obtain his recruitment pa.s.s had risen within the Celestial King cultivator.
As for the final outcome, Xu Que’s cultivation stage was too low for him to have gained a full view of the future using the calamity-foreseeing art, but it had been sufficient that he had been informed about the incident in advance.
This meant that he could do a little preparation in advance to employ the most energy-saving method in dealing with his opponent.
“Hee, hee, hee, System: bring me the top death spells. Oh, and the materials for the spells too (since they’re all free anyway), please. Ummm, bring me a packet of cigarettes too, while you’re at it.”
In no time, Xu Que made a series of arrangements swiftly.
Following a number of modifications, the death spells that Xu Que had acquired from the System overlapped one another and let out a bright glow that covered every surface before dimming immediately after.
…..
While all this was happening, situated in a small cave at the foot of a mountain near the South Tower of the Heaven Palace Sect, a young lady was suspended in the air with her legs crossed in the midst of a skill cultivation.
She was wearing immaculate white clothing, which was no match for her snow-white complexion, and she had an attractive face with both hints of infantile tenderness and a tinge of coldness…
All of a sudden, she awoke from her cultivation state. Her eyes snapped open and she frowned.
“Was that an illusion? Why does it feel as though a strong Celestial Core Wave just flashed by?” She muttered to herself with uncertainty as her body gently landed on the ground.
If this had happened in the past, she wouldn’t have been too bothered. Even if it hadn’t been an illusion and there had indeed been a Celestial Core Wave, it was a very normal occurrence.
After all, this was the Heaven Palace Sect, the strongest power in the entire Heaven Continent where countless masters resided, so any occurrence like this was nothing out of the ordinary.
But what had baffled her was the fact that the Celestial Core Wave had appeared where she was, when she had made such deliberate efforts to choose a remote cave to refine her skills in.
Besides, it seemed as if the wave had come from the foot of the mountain.
“Forget it. There hasn’t been any progress in my skill cultivation even after so many days of seclusion. Anyway, I haven’t been out in a couple of years…” The young lady mumbled to herself while waving her hand gently to remove the restrictive barrier she had imposed on the cave.
She wanted to go out for a walk!
…..
Hundreds of feet above, at a high alt.i.tude, a middle-aged man in a blue s.h.i.+rt was controlling a Celestial Sword. Having become one with the sword, he’d transformed into time itself and sped toward the Heaven Palace Sect.
With every step that he took toward the Heaven Palace Sect, his feelings grew increasingly complicated.
He had spent many years in cultivation and experienced numerous trials and tribulations to attain the cultivation level of a Celestial King. Today, he was preparing to enter the Heaven Palace Sect, which should have been a matter worth celebrating, but he couldn’t bring himself to be happy.
Deep down in his heart, he was still preoccupied with thoughts of her. The two of them had gone through thick and thin for many years and admired each other. On a lovely night, the two had even made pinkie promises to enter the Heaven Palace Sect together to refine their skills at the same time, seek enlightenment together, and become a power couple worthy of everyone’s admiration.
Who knew that heaven would make fools of them? Despite their greatest efforts, they had only managed to obtain one recruitment pa.s.s.
At present, as he approached the Heaven Palace Sect, he became incomparably disconsolate, as he was reminded of the long period of time he would be separated from her.
“Don’t worry, Xiaoli. Your G.o.dfather will soon devise a method to bring you into the Heaven Palace Sect also.” The man balled up his fists tightly, his heart filled with resolution. As he set such an ambitious goal for himself, he accelerated and flew toward the Heaven Palace Sect.
Before long, he’d reached the foot of the mountain. Before he landed on the ground, he had already noticed someone else at the foot of the mountain.
The middle-aged man shuddered slightly. Looking steadily ahead, he saw that a handsome and sophisticated-looking young man dressed in black robes was sitting under a tree for shade. He was even holding a strange object in his mouth and spitting out smoke from time to time.
Beside the man in black robes was a small tin can, with 82-year-old Sprite written on it.
Be it releasing smoke from his mouth or drinking from that can of 82-year-old Sprite, the actions of the man in black robes were unparalleled in their elegance and were suggestive of the disposition of an aristocrat.
“His cultivation stage is the Golden Celestial of the Great All-Embracing Heaven. He’s that weak and he dares to come to the Heaven Palace Sect on his own.” The middle-aged man was extremely surprised. Ecstasy soon followed.
Xiaoli, may G.o.d bless your G.o.dfather. We’ll be reunited in no time!
SWOOs.h.!.+
All at once, the middle-aged man stomped the air and his silhouette could be seen making a dive for the foot of the mountain.
