First off, no, I’m not going to be translating this properly, so far the guy’s put out 4 chapters a day, each about the same length as this, and I have enough projects. But yesterday, on a couple of the discord servers I’m on this was posted. It amused me enough that I figured people might want to see how it started, and though it’ll probably end up being trite and nothing new, here’s the chapter:
Skill of G.o.d"It is good to see you arrive, children."
Queen Ulskuque"s composed voice was carried above our heads. We nine who would turn fifteen this month were on our knees, with our heads bowed and holding back our racing hearts as we listened to those solemn words.
"You who shall challenge the Dungeon, I bestow a skill upon you."
With a tinkling, I was sure the queen had waved the staff that she always carried from right to left. To cast magic upon us.
And then.
"Whoah…"
"Whoa… this is."
Words of wonder reached my ears, they gained skills. As I was thinking this, a voice resounded in my mind too.
I would finally be given a skill, a skill of the G.o.ds which would make me one who would challenge the dungeon, an adventurer. I would descend to the lowest floor of the untrodden dungeon and become the strongest adventurer. Definitely!
I"d been studying the sword until now, so a warrior type skill would be good, but it could possibly be a magic skill or something, priest skills are plain, so I"d rather not, but a useful skill that will strengthen my body.
The voice sounded.
"Breathing."
What"s that?
Can I hear that again?"
"The skill Breathing. It allows you to breathe in and out."
No, I can do that already.
I"m already doing that normally. Breathing into my lungs that is.
Even though I retorted mentally, there was no further voice.
"It looks like it has spread. Then, I shall release it."
""Yes ma"am!!""
Eh, wha, wait, wait. I still haven"t got anything but "Breathing"…
Even though I wanted to complain, even raising my head would not be allowed in front of the queen.
Her footsteps grew distant, leaving me panicking.
I could finally raise my head, but without being allowed a single word, the others and I were taken to the main gate by the guards and I left the castle behind, still bewildered.
In the queen"s bedroom.
The queen collapsed onto a large sofa with a thump. She was pale skinned, with an otherwordly beauty. But at her backside, there was a short, thick tail, and atop her head were long ears standing upright. No, one of them was folded over.
It was little wonder, she was a demiG.o.ddess. Half of her was the G.o.ddess of rabbits. Her sister should be pounding mochi on the moon.
"Ahhh, I"m tired. There were a lot this month."
The female a.s.sistant at her side nodded with a word of agreement, and pa.s.sed over a tablet.
"There were nine born under the eighth moon. These are the skills they were given."
"Why can"t I choose the skill, that"d be way more fun."
"It is at the Heavenly G.o.d"s discretion."
"And I have no say in it. Yeah, yeah, I knooow. Bleh."
The aide answered as usual, and the bunny-eared queen sulked as usual.
As the words implied, the Heavenly G.o.d was the G.o.d who existed in heaven. They were distinguished.
The queen"s finger slid down the tablet, and the words descended smoothly. It was the work of the G.o.ds.
"Hmm, let"s see, let"s see. "Axe Skills", "Silver Nose"… Wow, they"re all good this month, aren"t they?"
"And just last month, a child was given "Blessing of the Witch"."
This country, the Skuque Kingdom flourished as the country with the dungeon. A dungeon that the G.o.ds of old had created. It was filled with gold, silver and treasure. However, there were also many monsters.
Those who would wager their life, pride and honour to challenge the dungeon were given a unique skill when they turned fifteen. Skills surpa.s.sed the limits of humans and raised their combat ability. The "Axe Skills" that was mentioned by the bunny-eared queen was one of them.
"…Oh?"
The queen"s scrolling finger came to a halt. She zoomed in with her thumb and index finger, and then back out, then in once more and she started to tremble all over.
"…Waaah! What is this! Is this alright!?"
"So you finally noticed?"
The queen leapt up and brought the tablet in front of her aide and shouted.
"The skill "Breathing" It had concealment magic on it so it was like that, but…!"
"Yes, it is actually… G.o.d Breathing."
"Just levelling up by breathing! No, that"s just not possible. This is a G.o.d"s skill! Before long you can scatter your enemies" lives just by breathing, or heal allies" fatal wounds, there can be so many effects! It truly is G.o.d Breath! Which child was it? Which one? Where are they!?"
The aide let out a long sigh.
"Your Majesty. We are not permitted to interfere."
"Geeeeez! It"d be so much more fuuuuun! Stupid Heavenly Gooood!"
"You will bring down retribution, talking like that."
Completely clueless that such a conversation was unfolding in the castle, I who was given the skill "Breathing", Lana Prater, trudged through the town.
"Haaahhh…"
I wanted to keep it quiet. My dream I had since I was a child, of conquering the dungeon, had been ripped away.
If only it had been a search type… I could have joined a party as a thief or something… What"s that Breathing…
"Haaahhh…"
I sighed for the who-knew-how-many-th time.
And then.
"Oooi, Lana! Breathing Lana! Ya got another useless skill, eh!"
"Go get your stats from the Guild. You got the skill Breathing, so you can breathe? I can do that too! Hoooooo haaaaaaa!"
""Gehahahahahahaha!""
They were two people I"d got my skill with. The big one was Carlos, and the spindly one was Clay. They live near me and are the same age, so we"ve ended up together since we were young, it"s irritating.
I glared at him with a scowl and he recoiled a bit, but then.
"What!? Ya want some!? I got Axe Skills, I"m gonna be a warrior and charge through the dungeon! It ain"t like your weird skill!"
"I got Silver Nose, I"m gonna find so much treasure!"
d.a.m.n it, I"m not upset.
I just ran because they were noisy!
"Ah, he ran!"
"The breathing b.a.s.t.a.r.d ran away!"
""Gehahahahahahaha!""
d.a.m.n it.
