"Stay safe," Sister An gave Vincent a hug. "I know you won"t listen, but at please don"t be too reckless.""I"ll try," Vincent smiled as he let go. He turned to Nim and gave her a hug. "Don"t make any trouble for Sister An."
"Have more faith in me," she muttered as she wrapped her arms around him, a green bracelet being worn, made of a strange material that almost seemed to glow.
Sister An beckoned to Arnya, walking out of earshot of Vincent.
"Your confused, uncertain," Arnya nodded. Sister An sighed. "I know the feeling. If you find it hard, you can always talk to me about it."Arnya nodded. Sister An smiled as she gave her a hug. "Take care."
On watching Vincent and Arnya walk away, Sister An looked to the green bracelet around Nim"s hand. "Vincent"s gift to you?"
"Yep, he said that it"s a charm against injuries," Nim smiled showing it off. "I also like the colour."
"Huh, is that so?"
...
"What"s the point of this?" Arnya asked as she picked a a blue card off the table, the scenery out the window of the train pa.s.sing by.
"Trying to see if I can improve my a.n.a.lysing skills," Vincent answered as he grimaced. He placed the card back and pulled out several chess pieces. "I"m trying to see if I can determine what you"ll pick based on every bit of information I have on you."
"That"s possible?" she asked, feeling slightly doubtful.
"It is, let me give you an example," Vincent looked outside their compartment and waved for Arnya to come over. He pointed at a fellow student who along with others, were finding empty compartments. "You see that girl, just from observing, what can you tell me about her?"
Arnya, knowing her eyesight was better then Vincent, felt like this was an easy task and nodded. "From the way she walks, she obviously comes from a wealthy family, graceful with a hint of pride. From her polished shoes and skin, she obviously likes to stay clean. Adding to that, her clothes are also neat, with not a hint of a crease. Her eyes look agitated and expectant, as if waiting for someone, but is unsettled by the atmosphere. It looks like she"s a new student."
Arnya looked back at Vincent, feeling confident that Vincent" couldn"t make a better observation due the girl being a fair distance away.
Vincent nodded. "Your eyesight is good Arnya, far better then mine, but there"s still a lot of information you missed."
"You see her wand, it"s situated at the right, but in actuality, her dominant hand is her left. See, right there how her left hand raised a little when she waved at the trolley lady? It"s appears to me that she"s been trying to use avoid her left hand for greetings as it"s considered rude. A habit that she"s been trying to overcome."
"See how uncomfortable she looks in the presence of other people, it"s obvious how this environment seems new to her, so its obvious that she"s a new student. Also that wave earlier to the trolley lady, it was stiff and more of a polite greeting. As you mentioned before, the girl is probably looking for someone, it"s most likely a relative, a sister perhaps."
"How can you tell?" Arnya asked surprised.
"Although I can"t see her eyes like you do, her her way of looking around is similar to a child who"s lost their parents. Considering that only students are allowed on the train, it"s not her parents that she"s looking for, so I"m guessing that it"s a sibling."
"So why do you think it"s a sister?" Arnya asked curiously.
"Sisters usually get along better with the same gender then a brother," Vincent shrugged. "Not to mention, At this point, it"s more of a guess."
"It"s still amazing that you managed to tell that much," Arnya praised. "So why choose to work on it now?"
Vincent scratched his head at the question."During the fight with Roden, I realised that I couldn"t keep up through brute strength alone," Vincent admitted. "So I tried to a.n.a.lyse his moves and predict what he was going to do next to get an edge over him. But, when he turned into a werewolf, his strength and speed rose exponentially, I started to panic a little, losing my concentration. If it weren"t for you, I might have died. I neglected improving my a.n.a.lysing skill ever since I joined Hogwarts. I"ve been focusing on other things, and because of that, I"ve gone rusty with a lot of the skills I"ve learnt in the past."
"That"s why, I decided to go back to basics, to relearn everything I"ve had in the past."
"Um, excuse me?" Vincent and Arnya looked back, seeing the girl that they were looking at approach them. "Is this compartment taken?"
"We still have some room," Vincent answered, opening the door further to let her in. "You can sit with us for the time being."
"Th-thank you," the girl said politely as she sat down, looking questionably at Arnya"s wheelchair. She turned away as Arnya looked at her direction, glancing up every so often. "Such a pretty girl," she thought, eyes sparkling.
"You a first year?" Vincent asked as he sat down. She nodded her head, looking a little shy. "Do you like it so far?"
"It"s amazing, the cla.s.ses are all interesting," the girl said enthusiastically before realising that she spoken too loudly and looked down in embarra.s.sment.
"Ha ha, that"s good," Vincent chuckled.
"I"m, Astoria, Astoria Greengra.s.s," she introduced timidly.
"Vincent, Vincent Wong," Vincent introduced in kind and pointed to Arnya. "And this here"s Arnya."
"The Mad Scientist?!" she squeaked, making Vincent"s brow twitched.
"I ain"t mad," said Vincent with a forced smile."Oh, sorry."
Astoria apologised, although looking more timid now. "Please don"t blow me up!"
"Where the heck did you hear that from?" Vincent asked.
"Well, I heard rumours that you made some potions of ma.s.s destruction," Vincent winced.
"One that can create dragons that are just as powerful as the real thing."
Stab.
"One that can blow up the whole school."
Stab.
"And the most recent one where you created tree like men that are walking disasters—"
"Please stop..." Vincent mumbled through his hands covering his face. His heart felt like it was stabbed through multiple times after every comment. "So that"s really what people think of me?"
"Your reputation seems to be leaning towards the infamy sort," Arnya commented.
"Not helping Arnya," said Vincent as he leant back in the chair.
"Your a, muggle right?" Astoria asked hesitatingly. "Yeah, a hundred percent," said Vincent."So how can you bare to stand among those different from you? Everyone else here holds so much more power then you," Astoria wanted to know why a muggle, a being that her family despised, can have such accomplishments at his age.
Vincent shrugged. "I never really cared, I mean, whether their a wizard or not, I shouldn"t really care. In the end, their still a living being with their own unique traits right?"
"I never thought of it like that," Astoria thought as she looked at Vincent and Arnya curiously. "The Mad Scientist isn"t as scary as others make him out to be, and Arnya, she seems like the quiet sort, but she"s honest. Maybe my sister was wrong about these two after all."
"So Astoria, what house are you in?" Arnya asked.
"Me?" Astoria squeaked, caught surprised by the unexpected question. She looked nervous as she answered. "Sly-Slytherin."
She looked up uncertainty, knowing Slytherins bad reputation among the other houses. She was surprised to see Vincent and Arnya"s unchanging expression."Really? So what"s the dorms like?"
Vincent was interested in dorm room, hearing that it was directly underneath the black lake. He heard from Harry and Ron last year when they snuck in disguised, but he wanted to hear what it looks like from a Slytherins point of view. "I heard that the Giant Squid appears every now and then."
"Squids, they"re pretty tasty," said Arnya. "Wonder what a Giant Squid tastes like?"
"No! The Giant Squid in Hogwarts is a kind creature," Astoria said with panic. "Killing is is like—"
"There"s more than one Giant Squid," Astoria stopped, blushing in embarra.s.sment at her outburst. "The Giant Squid in the black lake is rather domestic, whereas others around the world can be dangerous."
"Hermione?" Vincent raised an eyebrow, confirming where Arnya got the information in the first place.
Arnya nodded in confirmation.Vincent nodded at Astoria to continue."Well, it"s not just the Giant Squid that"s comes by the windows, Grindylows like to come by and and tease us at the windows..."
Astoria found herself enjoying talking to Vincent and Arnya as the train approached Hogwarts. The two of them seemed interested in what she had to say. It was an experience that was new, but not unwelcoming to her due to sticking with her sister for most of the time. While there were happy times, Astoria would always be feel that a majority of the conversations were rather bland, always insulting other muggle borns and students that they believe are below them.
As Hogwarts appeared in sight, the compartment doors opened to reveal a blond haired witch that glared at them.
"Daphne!" Astoria exclaimed in surprise.
"Let"s go, you shouldn"t be sitting with them," Daphne muttered as she pointed behind her, telling Astoria to get out of the compartment.
"Uh, well, it was nice meeting you," Astoria waved as she was walked out.
"Take care," Arnya waved back as Vincent nodded.
As Astoria disappeared, Daphne glared at Vincent. "You never spoke to her, got it?"
"Your sister"s a good girl Daphne," Vincent smiled wryly at the blond. "And don"t worry, I won"t blab about this to anyone."
Daphne"s eyes softened for a split second before hardening again.
"You better," she closed the compartment door before storming off.
"...She seems nice," Arnya muttered before turning to Vincent. "Yout two seem to know each other."
"Potions cla.s.s," said Vincent as he leaned back in his chair. "Helped her on a couple of occasions."
"Just a couple?" Arnya raised an eyebrow. "Who else did you help on the "other" occasions?"
"Let"s see, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville, Seamus, the Patil twins, Daphne, Brown, Abott, Nott, Corner, Davis..." Arnya put a hand out with a complicated look.
"Forget I asked."
Astoria held her head low as she walked with Daphne who tapped on her shoulder.
"Daphne, I"m sorry," Astoria apologised. "I know that we"re not supposed to interact with muggle borns and such—"
"Hey, I"m not mad, just..." Daphne sighed. "Us pure bloods were raised to think that we were far superior to those of a muggle lineage. If anyone saw us interacting with them, you know the shame that would bring to our parents? Not to mention the scorn you"ll receive by our housemates."
"But...I can"t believe that all muggle borns are inferior," Astoria said as they stopped in the hallway. Daphne nodded as she looked back in the direction they came from, specifically the compartment that Astoria came out of. "And, I think you know that too."
"Wong sure lives up to his t.i.tle as the Mad Scientist," Daphne chuckled as they walked off. "With all the times that he helped me in potions, I was forced to admit that he wasn"t in any way, inferior."
...One Year Ago...
"Anti-clockwise, not clockwise." Someone whispered to her.
Daphne looked back in annoyance as Vincent held up his hands as a sign of peace. "Hey, just saying."
"Why don"t you mind your own business?" Daphne snapped as she went back to her potion. She looked around to see if anyone else noticed. Thankfully for her, her friends were focused on her potion.
"Geez," Vincent looked next to him and started panicking. "Neville! Stop! Do you you want to blow up?!"
At the next lesson...
"Stir a little faster."
"Shut up!"
Two lessons later...
"The heat is too strong."
"I don"t need your help!"
Months later...
"If you"re looking for the book Professor Snape mentioned in cla.s.s, it"s on the far right." Daphne sighed as she turned around to see Vincent with a hand up in greeting. "Yo."
She rolled her eyes as she heeded Vincent"s advice and found the book she was looking for.
"Thanks," she said quietly.
"I"m sorry, did you just say thanks?" Daphne"s eye twitch and a scowl formed on her face as she looked at Vincent who smiled. "No shut up or anything?"
She took a deep breath as she turned around with the book and headed towards the reception desk. She stopped and looked back. "Thank you, for all the help and advice you"ve given me."
"No problem," said Vincent. "See you around Greengra.s.s."
She stared at him for a bit before nodding. "This conversation, never happened, you hear me?"
"What were we talking about?" Vincent made a
Daphne felt a smile on her face before resuming her usual condescending demeanor to Vincent. "As long as you understand."
...Present...
"Daphne, where were you?" asked Pansy Parkinson.
"Looking for my sister," Daphne replied. "She was lost and had to take a compartment with Wong."
Pansy and her gang all looked at Astoria with pity in their eyes. "How awful, being near a muggle, for crying out loud. I"d rather sit with a giant than be in the same compartment as him."
"What about the gatekeeper?" one sn.i.g.g.e.red.
"Oh lord no," another said, making them all laugh.
Astoria looked like she wanted to speak on Vincent"s behalf but a hand on her shoulder stopped her. She looked up to see Daphne shaking her head slightly. Although Daphne also felt like saying something, she didn"t want Astoria to experience being rejected or scorned by her housemates.
"Let"s get our stuff ready, we"re nearly there," Daphne spoke up.
...
"What...did you guys say?" Vincent asked Harry and Ron nervously.
"I"m saying, Hermione"s b.l.o.o.d.y cat ate Scabbers!" Ron muttered in frustration. "Blood on the sheets, cat hairs lying around. What else could it be?! And yet, she refuses to admit it!"
"No way," Vincent felt his eye twitch as thoughts ran through his head. "I refuse to believe that Peter died just like that. But if it"s true, what do I tell Sister An, "sorry, your brother was eaten by a cat?" No, he must have escaped. But how do I find him? Wait, Harry has the Marauders map..."
"Lupin took my Map last time I snuck out," Harry continued informing Vincent of what had happened during the holidays.
"..." while covering his face in frustration, Vincent asked through gritted teeth. "Anything else that I should know off?"
"I got a Firebolt for Christmas," said Harry. "But since it didn"t have any identification of who presented it to Vincent—"
"Hermione had to stick her nose in it," Ron b.u.t.ted in angrily. "She thought it could have been from Sirius Black, so it was confiscated until proven that is was safe, which it was. Seriously, how would Sirius get it in the first place?"
SMASH!
Ron fell backwards at Vincent"s unexpected head b.u.t.t. He looked up to see Vincent looking annoyed.
"Sure, her cat may have eaten Scabbers. Sure, she got the Firebolt confiscated for a time. But here"s the thing, if your going to turn your back on her just because of a d.a.m.n rat then what kind of friend are you?!" Vincent glared at Ron who looked down, still stubborn. "Cats eat rats Ron, she has no control over that. And the Firebolt? She was just trying to keep Harry safe."
Ron started to look slightly ashamed at himself.
"And Harry, we both told you that it was bad idea to go sneak out. There"s a b.l.o.o.d.y murderer after you for crying out loud!" Harry grimaced as Vincent sighed. "Just give it some thought why don"t you? I really don"t want to see my friends fight. I"m going to see Hermione."
Harry nodded as Ron kept looking at the ground. "She"s studying in the library."
Vincent walked off with Arnya wheeling after him.
"Great, moment I come back, Harry lost a crucial item, Peter escaped, and now Hermione and Ron"s friendship might be done for," Vincent grumbled to himself. "Just what I needed."
"Let"s find Hermione," Arnya wheeled past him towards the library.
"She seems eager to see her friend," Vincent thought.
The sight of Hermione was awful. She looked like she didn"t sleep throughout the holidays.
"Oh, Vince, Arnya," she muttered as they approached them. "Morning."
"It"s nearly dinner," Arnya stated.
"I heard everything from Harry and Ron and—" Vincent was cut off as Hermione"s head snapped towards him, her eyes reddening.
"What, are you going to blame me too?!" She yelled. Fortunately, there wasn"t any people due to everyone just returning from their holidays. "So it"s my fault that Scabbers is gone, it"s my fault when Harry"s broom gets taken away because it"s suspicious, why?!"
"Hermione..." Vincent muttered.
Hermione"s tears flowed down her cheeks as she sobbed, her tears landing on the book she was reading. She then felt Arnya"s arms wrap around her and looked up to see Arnya patting her back.
"Everything will be fine, there there," Arnya said in a soothing tone. Vincent recognised the gesture to be similar to Sister An when she comforted the kids in the orphanage.
Vincent sighed and placed a hand on Hermione"s shoulder. "Arnya"s right, everything will be fine."
Hermione cried into Arnya"s coat, letting out all the frustration she held in during the past few weeks. Madam Pince came around the corner to tell them off, but seeing Hermione"s expression, she gave a sigh and gave Vincent a look, he gave a nod of thanks.
After accompanying her to the common room, Vincent gave Arnya a milky looking potion. "She said she"s just going to skip dinner and just head to bed right? Make sure she drinks this before sleeping."
She nodded as she wheeled her way up the stairs to the girls dorm.
"She seems to prioritise her sad friend over me," Vincent scratched his cheek. "She has changed."
"What are you going to do now?" Arnya asked as she got to the door.
Vincent didn"t know what to do and thought for a bit before answering. "I"ll be at the hut if anyone asks."
Wandering across the school grounds, he sighed. "What the heck do I do? Peter"s gone and the map is with Professor Lupin. I need to blow off some steam."
He entered his hut and got a cauldron ready. "Let"s see what I can make without blowing up."
...
Harry and Ron sat in the Great Hall looking down at their food.
Harry was the first to make conversation. "Ron, Vince is right. Hermione was only looking out for us, we have to at least apologise..."
"Apologise?" Ron grumbled, rubbing his forehead which ached painfully. "I"ll apologise when she apologises for Scabbers!"
"You can"t just blame it on Hermione, she didn"t want this to happen either," Harry tried to convince Ron who cut him off.
"If she really wanted to avoid this, then she would have kept a proper eye on that cat," said Ron. "And that excuse that it"s just a rat? Newsflash, sure Scabbers was a hand me down, but it was the first pet that I"ve ever had. How would you feel if you lost Hedwig?"
Ron went back to eating his food in silence while Harry sighed.
Dumbledore sat there, eating his meal and looked around the students. He raised an eyebrow, noticing Vincent"s lack of presence. He wasn"t the only one who noticed, noticing Vincent missing, Snape had a bad premonition.
...
"Well that one evaporated," Vincent sighed as he watched a potion turn to green smoke that burned through the roof. Nyx waved a fan, trying to avoid it. As it repaired itself, Vincent searched through whatever ingredient or gem he could find and raised an eyebrow as he picked up an icy blue gem, one that he received from a Walking Willow.
"Still haven"t exactly figured out what to do with these yet—" Vincent suddenly felt his energy being drained dry and looked in amazement as ice cubes started forming and falling from his hand.
"What the..." Vincent stared at the cubes that started to pile up. He noticed that his stamina was gradually dispersing and frowned. "Can I somehow make it stop?"
Just as the thought went through his mind, he felt the drain stop and the ice production lessen.
"Huh, these seem interesting," Vincent smiled as if he found a new toy.
He then tested the other gems and found that they produced the same powers as the willows he fought.
"Can I insert it into my glove and use it?" Vincent thought before shaking his head. "I need to look into this further before I should use it in fights. Maybe it can—?!"
Vincent felt an insane thought flow through his head, something that bordered on insanity. He even shivered at the thought before throwing it to the back of his mind.
"No, I"m not that desperate for power. Not to mention that I have no idea if it"s even possible," Vincent calmed himself as he looked at the gem. "Well, since I could probably get more, let"s use it in a potion and see what it does."
...
"Is it just me, or does it feel chilly in here?" Ron asked through a mouthful.
It wasn"t just him, even the heat from the candles couldn"t do anything to keep the chill from bothering them.

"What exactly—?" Snape eyes narrowed as Vincent entered the Great Hall, looking extremely nervous.
Everyone whispered as Vincent trudged to the head table. He looked cold as he hugged his body close to himself for warmth.
"Boyyyy," Vincent felt himself straighten at Snape"s dangerous tone. "What, did, you, do?"
"Uhh, nice to see you too Professor," Vincent didn"t know when, but Snape had somehow appeared in front of his with a very threatening look on his face.
Placing his hands on Vincent"s head he moved his face to look directly at Vincent. "No games, what, did, you, don"t?"
"Now now Professor, calm down, I mean the boy has only just gotten back," Lupin smiled kindly as he mad his way around the table. "What kind of damage could he have done?
"You say that because you don"t know what this boy is capable off," Snape growled.
"I think you must be over exaggerating," Lupin said, turning to Vincent. "Now, Vincent, what did you come to tell us?"
...
"V—Vincent," Lupin stared at the mind boggling sight before him. "What—h-how?!"
All the teachers looked up speechlessly to see a large pillar of ice that completely encased Vincent"s hut and a large portion of the school grounds. They couldn"t even see the top of it, seeing that it reached beyond the clouds themselves.
Snape looked at Vincent who twiddled his thumbs and had a dangerous look on his face.
"Vincent."
"Yes sir?"
"I"m putting a ban on you having anything to do with potions for a month."
"...Yes sir."
