War Grounds

Chapter 39

Whrrrr.

The bow in Udil"s hand transformed into a staff, made from a stream of silver blood that was continuously circulating in a loop, throughout the framework of the weapon. It was as long as his overall wingspan.

Out of nowhere, five red candles suddenly appeared, swaying in the air before Udil.

Happy Burnday!

Al was taking a significant risk with his suddenly thought-out idea. However, it was not one that was formed from a whim. The boy was testing an intelligent guess based on the merger of his previous experiences and the sudden pop-up of ideas when he saw his damage output. He surprisingly felt in control of the match, so he decided to take the chance.

"You lose, you learn. You win, you get an award. Either way - you grow." Al could still remember the sparkling wisdom in his father"s eyes when the latter imparted this advice to him. However, he was still green at that time, unable to appreciate the nugget of gold, hidden within those words. This time, he"s ready to dig in.

The boy was starting to take leaps in his decision-making on the battlefield. Where did his confidence come from?

It all started when he met SARS.

With the aid of the bot, Al began to see things in a different light. He was growing.

The fact that he was doing well, without the presence of SARS in the match against a well-nurtured team from a famous guild was proof of his development.

...

The first stage of Al"s plan involved the staff form of Bloodborne. This was actually his first time to use a staff, and he was not really sure if it would allow him to use his Arsonist Skills. The good thing was that it worked!

Anyway, he still had a back-up plan if things went awry, but it was terrible - brute his way to victory!

The red flames dancing on the wicks of the floating candles were intensely blazing, melting the wax at a faster rate than the usual two-minute duration. It was obviously due to the effects of "Firefly Oil."

Al could not help himself from grinning; he was starting to estimate the maximum damage that he could deal with the skill. Just as what he had seen from his previous opponents, and the data compiled in player-started forums, the longest form of the staff, allowed one to move objects through the air magically. It was the main weapon of the Wizard Cla.s.s.

The five red candles rose higher, forming a circular arrangement as they stayed afloat at the back of Udil. "Good, just a few seconds to wait. Let"s proceed with the next step!" Al snickered.

Zaito and JanuaryEmbers, unfortunately, got the aggro of Grim Reaper. This was outside of Al"s expectations. Initially, all he ever wanted was to keep the group in one place and see how the sp.a.w.n of corpses will adjust. However, he won"t mind this extra help while he prepared to pull-off his wild ideas.

Pilades has now joined the fray against Grim Reaper; he was busy in stabilizing the aggro. Despite the presence of the Divine Vanguard, the magician and mage still struggled to get away from the dark coils, which were now back at their full strength, after the duration of h.e.l.l"s Mark.

Grim Reaper was no longer in flames, but its HP was down at 83%. Al was responsible for taking out 15% of the monster"s HP, while the remaining 2% came from Zaito and Embers.

Al wanted to check the abilities of the monster. Just as what he have guessed, the sp.a.w.n of corpses was limited by the position of Grim Reaper.

Now that Grim Reaper moved towards the area of Burning Orient, the number of corpses in CancerIsLife"s location decreased. This allowed SwitchFoot to aid Papa Bear, who was now dealing with both Boba and Zhahk.

"Hey! Why are your HPs restoring so fast?" Papa Bear grumbled as he kept on swinging his blue hammer.

"That"s none of your business!" Boba answered as he blocked the momentum of the hammer with his rapier.

Riposte!

The skill allowed Boba to parry the ma.s.sive weapon effortlessly. His sword immediately retaliated as it quickly delivered a counterstroke.

However, he suddenly heard a neigh, before he found himself flying from a powerful kick.

Horse Power!

It was SwitchFoot in his black stallion form.

"d.a.m.n! That was cool, brother! Can I ride?" Admiration and imagination filled the eyes of Papa Bear.

"Eh? Wouldn"t that be awkward?" SwitchFoot suddenly fell in deep thought. Was it possible?

"Of course not! Steady! I"ll hop in!" It was technically possible.

"Yeeha! Awesome! Awesome!" Papa Bear whirled his hammer like he was a cowboy. He was having a great time amidst the ensuing battle.

"d.a.m.n it! Stop slapping my b.u.t.t!" The orc almost lost his balance as SwitchFoot raised his forehand. All of the latter"s four forearms were armed with elongated silver blades - the equivalent of his daggers in his beast form.

"Kill them! Haha! This is awesome!" Papa Bear declared as he pointed his hammer towards the illusions that were keeping the corpses at bay.

The area where Grim Reaper was previously standing, instantly turned into a playground for Papa Bear to showcase his madness.

CancerIsLife and Macca fought against the corpses, while Papa Bear and SwitchFoot battled against the illusions, Boba and Zhahk.

Meanwhile, Pilades, Zaito, and Embers were still locked in with Grim Reaper. Udil would occasionally interfere by sending fireb.a.l.l.s, which were the basic attacks of his staff, empowered by Piston Lungs.

"What a troublesome opponent." Zaito was keeping an eye against the movements of Udil, and his weapon. However, nothing much was happening as weird candles floated behind the man. It seemed to be caused by the long-staff made from silver blood that he was wielding.

Al was just carefree in his position, regularly chipping in some attacks to Grim Reaper, without attracting the aggro, while dealing with the corpses that were sp.a.w.ning, nearby his location. He was just like a spectator in this chaotic battle.

"Get ready. The show is about to start." When the monster"s HP finally reached 50%, Udil suddenly sent a message to their team chat.

"Huh? What are you talking about?" CancerIsLife questioned. However, he immediately got his answer, when a ma.s.sive explosion, suddenly erupted.

Just when the wicks of the five red candles almost reached the end of the wax, Al suddenly whirled his silver-blood staff.

Swooos.h.!.+ The flames burned bright, hiding the almost melted wax-body of the candles as they shot forth toward Grim Reaper. It was empowered by "Firefly Oil," plus the fact that the monster will further receive an extra 55% damage from fire element attacks, due to the setback of having an Undead Race.

Boom! The long-awaited "Happy Burnday" finally blasted.

However, Zaito has long been prepared. When the magician saw Udil casting with his staff, he immediately signaled a "Scatter!", in their team chat. Trained for this moment, the other two, Pilades and JanuaryEmbers, did not dare to question as they moved as far as they could from the monster.

[Grim Reaper has been slain. You may now pick up the loots.]

A system announcement suddenly rang in everyone"s interface.

Things went so fast, and many questions suddenly popped up in Zaito"s head, especially the abysmal damage of those candles that instantly swallowed the remaining 50% HP of Grim Reaper. However, as soon as the message from the system regarding the loot appeared, he already knew what he needed to do.

Get the black weapon!

Magical s.p.a.ce!

Zaito instantly disappeared from his position. He"s long been prepared to steal the loot. He immediately appeared inside the dissipating flames, from the previous explosion.

However, there was another shadow inside the wave of flames. It was Udil, who has also teleported in the area.

However, Zaito was quicker in his reflexes. He immediately saw a pair of daggers, the handles of which were made from coils of swirling black smoke - a black-labeled weapon!

The Divine Magician grinned as he successfully looted the weapon, uncontested in speed. However, his expression suddenly soured as the person before him was also smiling.

Udil was also holding an item - a black book, the one that was previously held by Grim Reaper.

"Finders, keepers?" Udil winked at Zaito as the book in his hand s.h.i.+mmered in black and white.
