War Grounds

Chapter 9

"Eh? What the h.e.l.l are you talking about SARS? Had you misheard the system"s announcement? We would instantly be killed, once we"re outside of that barrier." Al grumbled against the bot, who continued to head towards outside the safe zone.

Maybe, Papa Bear was really stupid as he continued to follow Udil, not listening to his gut feelings. "Haha! I like you, kid! You"re a daredevil!"

...

"Huh? Why are they heading towards the forest?" Fale frowned. She and the rest of the group did not pursue the duo, upon Zaito"s instruction.

"Keep on observing them. The rest, help me observe the direction of shrinking. I"m getting a bad feeling." Zaito commanded.

Another two minutes had pa.s.sed. Papa Bear had already used up all his Mana Points, repeatedly activating "Steel Bones" to recover his low HP, which is now at 39% HP. He and Udil were still hiding in the mini-forest, three-fourths of which was already outside the barrier.

[The match had reached its eight-minute mark. Changing the location of the safe zone. Players are advised to move toward the mini-forest of the map.]

"Woah! How lucky! Now, we won"t have to worry about our position." Papa Bear"s face brightened.

"Get ready! We"ll make our last stand here." Udil, who was currently crouching in one of the tree"s branches advised.

...

"A coincidence?" Zaito suspected. "Beware of traps! That man"s hidden cla.s.s might be connected to the likes of a "Hunter." Stay alert, especially against that blue-tipped arrow."

They were currently searching for supply crates when the system notification appeared. Their group was in the north-east portion of the map, 100 body units away from the new safe zone"s location.

This time Zaito led the charge. Their formation was diamond in shape, with Alpha on the rear right, SonOfJustice on the rear left, and Fale on the back.

...

[Four enemies detected. You are 80 body units away, before entering their attack range.]

"Papa Bear, you know what to do!" Udil grinned.

"Aye, Sir! Smash that female"s brain!" The Orc pounded his chest, implying that the job could already be considered done.

...

"Fale? Can you see any movements within the forest?" Zaito asked for an update.

"I can already see the orc waiting for us, but that human is very elusive. He might be hiding within those trees, waiting for an ambush." Fale reported while scouting.

"Don"t forget that we have the advantage in numbers. Guessing that Orc"s att.i.tude, he would probably charge towards us, hoping to break our arrangement. Alpha and SonOfJustice, make sure to bring him down as soon as possible! Fale and I will take care of that, Udil." Zaito reminded.

"Clear! Leave him to us. We"ll split his head in half!" The Divine Guardian answered.

"Move out! Increase your pacing! The barrier is shrinking faster than before! Be mindful of your positions." The Divine Magician accelerated, leaving the group behind.

...

"Papa Bear! Let the party begin!" Udil declared while charging in full, the skill, "Power Arrow."

Tug! Tug!

Papa Bear pounded his chest twice, before charging out of the mini-forest.

"Here, he comes!" Zaito disappeared from the front line, activating "Magical s.p.a.ce."

"Leave him to us!" Alpha and SonOfJustice moved diagonally, intending to pincer the Orc. Meanwhile, Fale started raining down arrows towards Papa Bear.

...

[Target Locked]

Woos.h.!.+

Udil released the Power Arrow, targeting Alpha when suddenly, someone appeared behind him.

"Playtime"s over, boy!" It was Zaito. "Deck Slicer!"

Cards rained down, cutting down the tree, where Udil and Zaito were currently perched on, and its surroundings. Unfortunately, SARS had already detected Zaito before he even made the sneak attack. He quickly used Blink.

"So, he"s got a movement skill too, huh?" Zaito was starting to get a feel of Udil"s skills.

"I lost him. Beware!" The Divine Magician quickly sent a message in their team chat as he searched for Udil"s whereabouts.

"Don"t worry, Zaito. We"ve got the Orc under control. Any minute from now, and he"ll die." SonOfJustice quickly replied.

...

Alpha was almost caught off guard by the sneak attack by Udil. If Fale did not warn him on time, he would have failed to activate "Parry."

"Thank you! :D" The Murloc sent in their group chat.

"No probs. Stay alert." The Elf Ranger quickly replied.

Meanwhile, Papa Bear, who had no mana left, did his best to do his role - keep Fale busy. However, under the Divine Guardian and Murloc Swordsman"s attacks, it was easier said than done.

Before even reaching Fale, Papa Bear died. "Apologies, Udil. I"m too weak for this play. ( T_T )"

[Fale has slain Papa Bear. a.s.sisted by Alpha & SonOfJustice]

...

Truth be told, Udil had not moved that much from his original position. When he used, "Blink," he teleported towards the thicket of leaves in the upper portion of the tree, blending among the falling debris, and smoke brought about by the destruction of Zaito"s skill. In consequence, he took the brunt of the AOE damage, decreasing his HP at 55%.

...

Zaito and the rest of his team were now trapped inside the mini-forest with the barrier slowly closing in, but they were not still able to locate Udil, even with Fale"s scouting skills.

"Hey, Udil! Where are you, buddy? Let"s stop wasting time, okay? You know that you won"t be able to defeat us four. Just click that "Surrender" b.u.t.ton, little one." SonOfJustice teased with a shout, his voice echoing throughout the remainder of the forest.

Meanwhile, the Divine Magician was in deep thought, trying to outguess Udil. He kept on thinking the possible escape routes where Al might have teleported, but they had already checked all of it, except for one. "Could it be...?"

"Everyone follow me! I finally know where he"s hiding!" Zaito excitedly exclaimed.

"As expected of a prodigy. Let"s go!" Alpha grinned.

The group retraced their steps back, arriving at the edge of the barrier where Zaito and Udil had quickly encountered each other a while ago. A mound of branches filled the ground, formed from the clump of leaves and twigs.

"I know that you"re hiding there. Get out now!" Zaito"s expression was cold as he and the other three stood before the artificial shelter.

[10th minute-mark had been reached. Safe Zone will enclose a twenty-body unit area, covering the majority of the players.]

Instantly, the blue-colored barrier quickly enclosed towards Zaito"s group and the heap of broken tree parts, leaving a small s.p.a.ce for everyone to maneuver around.

"Haha! There"s still no system announcement that he"s dead. He"s here!" SonOfJustice snickered.

"Die, Human! Thank you for wasting our time! Cold Justice!" The Divine Guardian raised his hammer as blue-colored sword lights descended from the sky, raining towards the cover of Udil.

Shuswap!

Leaves showered as Udil suddenly jumped out of his hiding place. "Yup! Nice find! I had waited so long for this time to come! Game over, everyone." With a wicked grin, SARS squeezed the pink-colored ball in his hand, which was no other than the "Soul Bomb."

Blast!

Time seemed to slow down as rays of white light blossomed from Udil"s hand. It was blinding, and powerful enough to send everyone, except its user, outside of the barrier.

"VICTORY!"

The green-colored word filled Al"s virtual screen before he pa.s.sed out in the real world.
