War Of The Realms

Chapter 8

After waking up, I quickly whipped up some breakfast before packing my bag. Can"t bring much on an adventure like this!

Just before we were about to leave, Oki handed me a crystal earpiece.

"Put this in your ear, that way we will be able to communicate while you"re in the palace. You"ll have to be careful while you"re using it though." Oki said, as I fiddled with the communication device.

After making sure they worked, we set off on our journey. Keeping to the darker places, we moved our way through the village. It was dawn and the sun had just began to rise, so no one was about.

From this village, we journeyed to the capital city of the Land of Mortals- Oceana Megalopolis. It"s the biggest and most populated city in the entire Mortal Realm and is said to be stunningly beautiful. In the center of the town, is where the portal to the different realms lies. At the centre of every realm, there is a magical opening, a portal, to the other realms. This portal takes you to a cavern, no one knows where, and in there you go through the gate to the realm you wish to reach.

After entering the capital, we ventured to the busiest place- the market square. It was morning now and people were crowding round stalls to get fresh fruit or bread. It was the safest place to be, as we could camouflage perfectly in the crowds.

While journeying through the square, I pa.s.sed a clothes stall, which displayed 3 cloaks. They were black with a coloured trim, each one different. I bought the three and handed two to Oki and Chloe. I then put on the cloak with the ruby trim and set off again, sensing my friend"s confused stares from behind.

After exiting the market square, we found ourselves in the center of the the city. There, on a marble podium, was the portal. Polished stairs led their way up. The gateway shone purple and swirls danced around the magical barrier. We had to activate it to be let through. That was the easy part. Our problem was, the guards.

Ever since Shad took over, he had his guards posted everywhere, including every portal, so rebels would be easier found.

"We have to make the guards leave their post." I said, a.s.sessing the situation.

"How about we produce a magic flare down that alley," she pointed to one on our left "The guards will come and investigate. We knock them out and then dash through the portal." Chloe replied.

"Good idea," Oki said "Only one will come down first, but they carry headsets, so if we can get one to scream or panic, the other will come charging! Oh and Surina?"

"Ye?" I asked.

"Why cloaks?" Oki asked, with a puzzled smile.

"Camouflage. We bought clothes that were sold here, so people where this sort of stuff. We"ll be less suspicious." I explained.

After checking the coast was clear, we scurried into our chosen alley. I then shot a beam of shadows up to the sky, alerting the guards.

Soon enough, one of the guards approached the entrance. Immediately, I crouched down, pressing my palms to the floor. Under my touch, the surface turned to ice. The guard slipped and as he did, he let out a panicked cry. Not only did he get knocked out on impact, but he also let his comrade know that he needed back up.

A few minutes later, the second guard arrived at the scene. He was stupid enough to not check the ground first, slipping on my ice and becoming unconscious.

Really, you would of thought the Devil King"s guards would have higher IQs!

Once checking they were out cold, we ventured back to the portal. We would have to be quick, or the public would alert any presence of authority.

After checking no one had noticed us, I gave a small nod of confirmation to my group and began climbing the white stairs.

As soon as we all were present at the top, I waved my hand, activating the gateway. The portal required magic to become usable.I took a deep breath and stepped through. What would this cavern be like and would there be any enemies waiting for us?
