Chapter 122 The Chief
With just a few words, Ranger knew where he had given him away. People who had been in battles all the year round always had a strange odor about them. Ordinary people would not be able to detect such an odor, but they would not be able to hide it from someone like Ling, who had experienced it before. Ranger himself was used to this kind of odor, that was the reason why he leave out such a crucial factor.
In fact, if it wasn"t for such a tiny flaw, Ranger would have been on the verge of success.
Although Ling had guessed that the killer from Parkland would never let him go so easily, apart from the days he"d been in a daze, it had been peaceful in the following days. Even as vigilant as Ling, he also thought that the killer had give up taking action in Phoenix City. Until yesterday, when Dr. David showed up, Ling noticed the unusual odor.
This odor was originally not easy to detect, but in order to examine Ling"s body, they two came in close contact. From this Ling learned that Parkland"s killer had not given up. And from the way he approached Dr. David, the killer seemed to be at work.
If it was a normal odor, Ranger could use various medicinal powder to conceal it. However, the dead odor in his body could not be concealed by the items. Unless it was a high-rank sensing expert, who could create a barrier on their body to prevent others from sensing anything. Unfortunately, Ranger was not an expert in the sensing field, so he failed.
The white eagle made a prompt decision. He crashed into the wall, shook its body and several scalpels hidden in the doctor"s uniform were immediately shot out. In order to not attract the attention of the people inPhoenix City, Ranger didn"t bring any guns with him when he went in and out of the hospital. Or else this time, Ling would deal with bullets rather than scalpels
Naturally, the scalpel was no match for Ling. He merely leaned back and the scalpels missed him. But when he pulled his body back, the White Head was nowhere to be found. Shouts and curses came outside the ward, followed by a bailiff and three soldiers who rushed into the ward. The fight in the ward had alerted them, but the killer had already left. After a simple inquiry, the bailiff then led his men to leave.
Ling knew after the incident, Parkland"s killers could not stay in Phoenix City any longer. In other words, he could rest peacefully for the next few days.
He had almost recovered from the injury and the most severe wound on his chest had already healed. Even his sternum, which had been pierced through also grew back. However, after the short fierce combat, his sternum split open again. Thus, he would have to stay in the hospital for another day or two.
The heat of the day silenced the earth, especially at this hour of the dayapproaching noon, when no living creature would be willing to be exposed in the intense ultraviolet rays of the sun. An Overlord Scorpion emerged from the sand. This mutated scorpion was only the size of a fist, but it had two scorpions" tails. The Overlord Scorpion"s body was colorful and its poison sac could poison a savage Bear to death within three minutes.
Because its toxins were comparable to nuclear waste, the scorpion was especially dangerous in its biological category, which was why it was known as the Overlord.
The scorpion left its hiding spot in the sand and climbed on the road. Not for anything else, but for the huge human corpse on the road.
Human corpses were not only food for the Overlord Scorpion, but they could also be used as its lair. Mutated creatures as small as the Overlord Scorpion sometimes liked to hide directly in human corpses and build their own nests. It was not only easy to eat, but also provided a natural protective layer for the mutated insects, killing two birds with one stone.
The Overlord Scorpion quickly approached the corpse. It was a huge man with a head of red hair which looked like flames. His fairly fresh muscles made the Overlord Scorpion drool. The insect crawled to the side of the corpse"s face, its gaping mouth seeming to invite the Overlord Scorpion in.
As the scorpion was about to climb in, the black cloud suddenly covered it. Hardly had it figured out what had happened, a heavy piece of metal smashed onto its body. The Overlord Scorpion was well-known for itspoison, but its body was as weak as the ancestors of the old era. There was no way for it to resist the heavy metal pressure. Immediately, it was crushed to death .
A pair of feet appeared at the side of the metal hammer as the light yellow scorpion fluid was released from the metal hammer. Then the owner of the feet fell to his knees, pressing one arm to the ground to support himself, so that he could lean forward and stretch out his tongue to lick the scorpion"s fluid.
The scorpion venom with its sour taste was not good to drink, but in the wilderness, there was no such thing as extravagant as water. Therefore, Kazuo Watanabe who had walked for almost an entire day had no time to think about these things. Before the heat of the earth had dried this rare liquid, he licked the scorpion fluid clean with his tongue. Then he removed the metal hammer and carefully fiddled with the scorpion"s almost shattered body.
He picked out the hard sh.e.l.ls and the toxic substances, and then he swept the scorpion meat, which didn"t even weigh two grams into his mouth. The meat of the Overlord Scorpion was not fresh, but rather stinky. It tasted rather disgusting, but Kazuo held back the vomit and swallowed it with a grit of his teeth. However, this was not enough to put out hishunger, so he turned his gaze to the tall corpse beside him.
In turbulent times, it is not new to eat people in order to survive. Besides, Kazuo Watanabe just wanted to eat the corpse, he had done something a hundred times more evil than this, and he would not hesitate for the sake of morality. However, the man hesitated because there were many huge bullet holes in the corpse, as well as the fatal wound on his forehead.
Kazuo was an experienced mercenary. After carefully examining the corpse, he discovered that there were two different kinds of bullet marks on it.
The wounds on the corpse"s arms and shoulders were much larger than other bullets. There was no doubt about its killing power. One could tell from the wounds on the two parts of the corpse. This man"s wounds were pretty much all wounds. If one was. .h.i.t in the vital parts by this kind of bullet, only those high-rank experts in combat field who were with the rapid regeneration ability could survive.
However, the man"s fatal injury came from between his eyebrows.
The bullet hole between his eyebrows was delicate and the area around the bullet hole was smooth. This meant that the other side was using armor-piercing bullets which could be fired only through sniper rifle.Only the kinetic energy provided by the sniper equipment could leave such a hole.
In other words, it would take at least two people to kill the man. This was because the two bullet marks on his body were completely different, and they clearly came from different firearms. The former was a weapon similar to a large-caliber revolver, while the latter was a sniping device. The two were far apart. It was impossible for one person to control them at the same time.
Judging from the malevolent metal hammer used by the man, the other party was someone who belonged to the combat field. From the marks on the road, it was easy to tell that it was no more than ten meters between the dead and another capable man with a powerful handgun.
It was well known that even the best gunners had to keep their distance from the enemy to have an advantage. Once the distance between them was narrowed, when the opponent was capable of combat, it would be the gunner"s nightmare.
However, the scene in front of Kazuo was a complete reversal of his common sense. Judging from the corpse on the road, the gunner who was fighting at close range with him was actually still alive. Of course, the sniper who fired a shot at the man"s forehead was the biggest contributor. However, the sniper"s skills were astounding to survive in the narrow distance with a capable fighter.
Kazuo Watanabe frowned, but he could not think of anyone he knew who would qualify for this. However, when he almost gave up thinking, Lingappeared in his mind.
Could it be him?
Kazuo thought of Ling. If there were adepts in the vicinity of Phoenix City who met this condition, it would most likely be Ling. When he thought of how Ling had such skills, and how he was unable to use his former skills with only one arm, he felt an indescribable hatred towards Ling"s beautiful face.
But now, Kazuo was only overwhelmed by hunger. He built sharp weapons around to deconstruct the corpse for feeding. When a sabre was found on the side of the corpse"s waist, the j.a.panese swordsman happily pulled it out. He untied the leather jacket from the corpse and was about to stab his chest with the knife, but the tattoo of a demon wolf on thechest stunned him.
He burst out laughing, full of surprise.
"Wolf bandit leader?" "It"s you, red wolf?" This discovery made him give up eating the corpse. Or at least keep the head.
This was because the bandit leader had a hundred thousand mainland dollars on him. It was a bounty that had been released by t.i.tan City a few days ago. It immediately updated the red wolf"s status to a whole new record. It could be said that with the head of the red wolf, Kazuo Watanabe could exchange it for 100,000 dollars in t.i.tan City. Such a good thing was a pie in the sky, even when he was still in such a sorry state.
And the good fortune for Kazuo seemed to go far beyond that. When he laughed wildly with joy, the roar of the engine stung his ears, and he watched, squinting, as a few men"s Land Cruisers approached from a distance and surrounded him.
In one of the SUVs, a tall and thin man stood up and pointed a gun at him and screamed, "Who are you?" "Did you kill our boss?"
Kazuo looked at the group of men. The tattoos on their bodies were exactly the same as the red wolf. He immediately got to know their ident.i.ties and suddenly a good idea popped up in his mind. With a kick of his toe, the red wolf"s metal hammer landed on his arm.
"I am Kazuo Watanabe." From today on, I will be your new leader! "
"With you handicapped?" The thin man laughed, as did the other wolf bandits in the SUV.
Only Kazuo did not laugh. He raised his hammer and sneered, "That"s right, me." "Even if I only have one arm, it"ll be enough to deal with you bunch of s.h.i.+t!"
