She could not speak, so she pointed at herself. Of course she did not want his help.
“Since you kept quiet, I’ll a.s.sume that you want me here.” He rolled up his sleeves and crouched down beside the bathtub.
She glared at him. I can’t even talk right now, aren’t you behaving a little too arrogantly?
Being the weak lamb that she was now, she could only watch as the big bad wolf fondled and caressed every part of her body.
After the agonizing bath was over, she put on her clothes and was dragged downstairs to dinner by Huo Yunting.
“Ma’am, this is fish congee, cooked using carp fish broth. It’s very delicious.”
She smiled at the head chef, tried a spoon, and gestured with a thumbs-up.
There were plenty of dishes in front of Huo Yunting, but he was immediately intrigued by her cute smile and response.
“Let me have a bowl too.”
“Mmm…”
Lu Zhaoyang hummed. She stared at him and pouted.
She seemed to be warning him not to steal her food.
“You think it’s not enough?” He remembered she never ate much in general.
Lu Zhaoyang shook her head. The bowl was small, how could it be enough for her? Besides, with her tongue injured, she could not eat anything else, and on top of that, it had been a very tiring day and she was starving!
“Don’t worry, ma’am, I made plenty, it will be enough for everyone.” The head chef smiled at their exchange and interrupted.
“In future, don’t prepare a separate meal for me. Let me have what she’s having.”
Huo Yunting s.n.a.t.c.hed the congee bowl away from Lu Zhaoyang and said to the chef.
Lu Zhaoyang looked at him in puzzlement. What is he thinking? Didn’t the chef said there’s enough for the two of them? Surely he can wait to get his own bowl of congee!
She glared at him in contempt as Huo Yunting scooped up a spoonful of congee, brought it to her mouth, and pretty much ordered her, “Open your mouth.”
Understanding his intention now, she quietly opened her mouth.
Since she could hardly protest in spoken words, a silent protest was guaranteed to go unheeded. She might as well go along with it.
After finis.h.i.+ng the first bowl, Huo Yunting filled up another bowl and fed her personally until it was empty.
He had yet to eat anything himself.
“You want more?”
She shook her head, and then pointed at him and managed to say with difficulty, “You, eat.”
He nodded, and then had a bowl for himself.
It tasted better than expected.
Lu Zhaoyang sat at the dining table, watching him finish his meal, but unable to utter the two words that remained stuck in her head.
Regardless of everything that happened between them, she should still thank him for what he did today.
Without him, she would probably have been…
When Huo Yunting was done, they went to bed, and still she did not utter those words.
Feeling unsettled, she turned over in bed and reached for her phone on the bedside cabinet.
A soft glow appeared in the bedroom from her cellphone. She looked in his direction to make sure that he was asleep, and then typed a short message that said “Thank you” and sent it to him. She turned the screen off and then went back to laying on the bed, pretending to be asleep.
A notification sound came from Huo Yunting’s phone, signalling that the message had arrived to its recipient.
Her heart skipped a beat when the man laying beside her sat up abruptly.
She remembered seeing him breathing evenly just now, but never knew that he would be awakened so easily!
He lay back in bed and put one long arm across her waist. “Go to sleep. You’re not feeling well, so stop playing with your phone!”
