After pus.h.i.+ng the doors open and seeing what was behind them, at first, I couldn"t believe my own eyes. Most of the empty place around the entry to my tower was already occupied by the construction site for some kind of a huge building, with the crowd of people constantly working on it with such a focus, that they didn"t even realise I came out of the tower!
After the initial shock of seeing something so grand built so fast and done despite my order to leave the interior ring of this place completely empty for my own constructions, I looked around, and only then I realised that something was really wrong.
When I last saw this place, outside of a few tents and the single neighbourhood that I built myself, it was mostly empty gra.s.slands, with a small hint of a river flowing in the distant end of the open area and a few hills painted on the barrier separating the real s.p.a.ce of the dimension from the lands beyond it, inaccessible to anyone, me included.
But now, rather than just a single neighbourhood, this entire place was bustling with life, with an entire city built around the houses I set myself!
Even if the quality of the new buildings was poor, as they were made mostly with just wood and some bricks at most, it was still an impressive feat to do something so grand in just a span of six d.a.m.ned days!
"Who are you! How did you get to the restricted s.p.a.ce?!"
Before I could even wrap my head about what had transpired in this place during my absence, a small group of three men, holding simple spears with a stone blade on top of it approached me and instantly blocked me from moving into any direction.
"Excuse me… What?"
What restricted s.p.a.ce? How come they even asked me how did I get to the place that I f.u.c.king owned? But instead of getting angry at their arrogant approach to someone who they should consider at least a hero of their folk, I was getting more and more curious with every single moment.
"Are you dumb or stupid? You are clearly not a worker here, so what the f.u.c.k do you think you are doing in the Hero"s Sanctuary building site?!"
With those words, the three men instantly lowered their spears, most likely taking my puzzlement for the lack of will to cooperate. But while I was still rather curious about what had happened here rather than angry at their rude behaviour, I could let them just point their weapons at me, in my own d.a.m.ned dimension!
Despite my statistics still locked in order to not make myself used back to my real strength with the intention of going back to the city I escaped from in relatively soon, I still didn"t need to exert almost any of my strength to simply grab one of the spears by its edge, pull it out of the man"s hands and simply swing it around, instantly depriving the other two guys of their consciousness by hitting them with its hand through their heads.
With only one man remaining to deal with, instead of punis.h.i.+ng him for his rude behaviour, I simply grabbed his skimpy clothes and raised him to match his face with mine and asked.
"What the h.e.l.l happened to this place while I was away? How the heck did you guys build everything in just a few days I was away?"
Considering how all the people in this place were under my direct supervision, the best way to understand what was going on was to find someone who was in charge. Considering the great change to this place, I even started to suspect that the flow of time slowed down considerably with the influx of new people, turning what I thought of six days, into a far greater amount of time!
But with that in mind, was Gabriel still in charge? What happened to Helia and Jessie?
"Hey, where can I find Gabriel? I think he is the one who should answer those questions of mine."
Seeing how my question provoked the guy"s eyes to fill with hatred as if I just dirtied some kind of idol he was wors.h.i.+pping, I couldn"t be bothered to uncover what the h.e.l.l was going on in my small world. Simply throwing the apparently mute guy away, I looked around, before moving towards the building I picked for the house of the leader of the local community.
But before I could even make more than ten steps, my move was halted by yet another group, this time made of more than twenty men, that almost instantly blocked my path and surrounded me, this time with some swords glistering in the sun amongst the majority of the spearmen of the group.
"What the h.e.l.l is this commotion?!"
Stepping forward, a burly man presented himself without even a single weapon on him. Just like any officer in a peacekeeping force, instead of fighting himself, he was most likely supposed to make use of his people as his weapons in order to keep the sanct.i.ty of his status unspoiled.
"Verter Boss! This man trespa.s.sed on the building site and refused to answer our question! He even dared to attack the other two guards that were with me!"
Before I could even answer the inquiry of this officer, the same guy that I so mercifully spared by throwing him away rather than rendering him unconscious ran towards the group of men and reported the events to the officer.
"So you are a d.a.m.ned rebel, daring to raise your hand against the sanctuary of our hero?!"
Instead of letting me say anything, this Verter guy almost instantly flared up, with the fires of real hate appearing in his eyes. While I was still curious about the situation to the point where I found this commotion quite funny, seeing the this honest expression, I couldn"t help but feel that something wrong has happened in this place.
With the ratio of the time flow changing, I had no idea how long it has been for those people since I left them to their own accords in order to deal with the overlord, but explaining my ident.i.ty right now would make it way harder for me to understand the truth behind the events, so I decided to keep silent about it. In the end, it could be fun playing the terrorist, and there was no one strong enough in this small dimension of mine capable of hurting me, so there was nothing I should be worried about, outside of the safety of the people I already considered my retainers!
"You. Stop your useless blabbering, and tell me. Where the heck is Gabriel?"
Instead of letting the officer revel in his hatred, I broke his immersion, once again asking for the whereabouts of the senior of this place.
"You dare to utter the name of the saint designated by the hero himself so lightly?! You are not only a rebel but one of those d.a.m.ned heretics as well!"
Raising his hand, the man gestured at his people.
"Men! Comprehend him and bring him before the Highest priestess face! I know she is currently doing the rites of the Last Hero"s sacrifice, but this heretic will make for a fine tribute for our highest lord in heavens!"
