"Who the h.e.l.l do you think you are to put me as a stake in your duel!"

Before anyone could react to my dear cousin"s words, his senior instantly lashed out at him. It"s no wonder that she reacted in this way. Not only is her position probably superior to his, but she is also far stronger than him as well. Seeing that a mere mortal enlightenment level cultivator dared to stake dignity of a enriching essence disciple of a middle sect, everyone around almost scratched their head in puzzlement!

It"s one thing to bet something you cannot lose, but it"s completely another thing to bet something you can"t provide!

"Sir, you do realise what will be the penalty were you fail to uphold your part of the bet?"

Ignoring the outraged cry of the beautiful female, the guards leader pointed out to my dear cousin.

"You don"t have to worry about. I"m not going to lose against this tras.h.!.+ Even if I block my entire cultivation to match this mortal, my skills are far superior from all the fighting I went through on my journeys and while on tuition in golden spear sect. Do you dare to doubt my capabilities?"

Turning himself around, the cousin of mine looked at his "senior" with scorn in his eyes.

"And you better don"t forget that you were delegated to tend to me, just like a slave tossed by its master for his kids to play with! Were I to throw you in the brothel, you should be thankful if I ever decided to pick you up from it!"

Is this guy sane? Speaking like that to someone who could swat his life away with just a casual move of her hand? Or was he trying to find an elaborate and modern way to kill himself? Is this some kind of suicidal madness?

But out of sudden, this girl instead of relieving his shoulders from the burden of carrying his head, she actually lowered her own face and just trembled with rage, not uttering even a word.

What a truly pitiful sight… I wonder what kind of shady dealings did my cousin do with her sect to actually place her in such a plight! But it matters not. While it"s a pity that I won"t get to make him feel bad while clas.h.i.+ng with her later on, I can always use this opportunity to try to help her raise her power, as to improve her standing in her own sect so that she could be the one to constantly pressure him later on!

"Is that everything?"

Turning myself to face the guards, I noticed how flabbergasted they were. I guess I wasn"t the only one who couldn"t get over this situation. Thankfully, my question managed to knock them off their daze.

"Yes, with that, the duel is officially set. We will just need your names and identification tokens for a moment."

With my cousin bursting forward to make sure he will register first, I saw him touching the jade that one of the guards took out from his storage ring.

"Veriel Uzaki."

Seeing that his introduction and registration was done, I simply dished out my core sect token that I received way back from Stella and pa.s.sed it to the guard.

"Bart. I was banished, so I do not have a family name any longer."

"Katenari. Since you are my fiance, there is nothing wrong with taking my family name then, am I right?"

Suddenly interrupting, Eve stepped out while disregarding the people that instantly pushed forward to close the gap that appeared in the queue. Smiling lovingly at me, she presented her token with "Eve Katenari" inscribed on it.

"Did you just say Katenari?!"

Hearing her family name, the guards froze on the spot. Not even daring to look down on the jade that she presented, it looked like he was about to bow…. no. To drop down and kowtow before her!

"We apologize for our disrespectful behaviour! Do you want us to inform the local lord of your arrival?"

With their hands cupped in front of their chests, their att.i.tude turned from one of the guards into one suiting servants! Is her family actually some kind of bigshot? While I know her father reached the level of Immortal, I thought that one needs to disregard everything and cultivate their entire life only to get close to that legendary stage! How could her family actually… Oh wait, that actually makes sense! If he was able to reach it quickly enough to retain his healthy look that I remember from the visions, he would require quite a powerfull backing!

"There is no need for that. I will do it myself. Just do me a favour and remember to register him with my family name. I won"t bear if I hear anyone daring to insult my fiance!"

With her behaviour suddenly turning from her normal, loving and carefree self, into one suited for a young princess of a royal lineage, I couldn"t help but stare at her and admire this new side of her! Who could expect that I would get to know her better in this situation!

"Of course, Lady! Forgive us of our manners from before!"

With those words, the guards actually pulled back, and dashed into a run as soon as they were far enough to not treat it as a disrespect! Seriously, what is this all about?

"Would you mind to cut them off with a barrier?"

Sending a disgusted look towards my cousin, I turned my head back to Eve while asking. As soon as my eyes meet hers, I understood that I shouldn"t pry too much into the topic. With anxiety mixing with sadness and even a hint of fear, I understood that hearing me speak about my family circ.u.mstances, she felt compelled to reveal her own status just to stop others from mocking me!

Oh G.o.d, what did I do to deserve such a girl on my side!

With the barrier now erected around us, I took her hand and reached for the end of the queue, despite the fact that the people who took our place actually backed off after hearing about her ident.i.ty.

"I know what you want to ask, but let"s speak about it in private, okay?"

Speaking with a soft, sad voice, Eve didn"t dare to look on my face. Observing carefully the tips of her shoes, she just followed my lead to the end of the waiting line.

"I got it. Should I speak about my history then?"
