Chapter 78: Instant Kill
Judging from his performance from previous rounds, Jerry was obviously much stronger than the average student. Unlike the pink-robed sorceress who used her equipments and tools to suppress her opponents, the boy relied on his own strength to take down his opponents in all of his duels. Be it the speed of the incantation, elemental conversion or the release timing of the spells, he had demonstrated the best control compared to the other students. Not only did he managed to win the duels magnificently, he gave off a presence that was like a bulldozer.
I remember that we’ve seen this combat style in the past and it was quite popular, right? Baiyi had a vague memory about the unusual combat style, prompting him to ask the rest of the Walkers.
“There were indeed many people who liked such a style in the past. Those people claimed to be righteous and prefer to have a fair duel without relying on any equipments. They did have quite a lot of supporters standing behind them,” The Scholar explained, “But in my opinion, they are nothing but a group of hypocritical fools fooling others and cheating themselves at the same time. Just think about it, how can there be a real fair fight in this world? No matter how hard the Crystal Maiden 1 fights, she still can’t defeat the Faceless Void 2 , can she?”
Well, that makes sense but this example is a little unsuitable, isn’t it? The Crystal Maiden can still cast the b.u.t.terfly, remember? Baiyi thought to himself before asking again, But why didn’t I hear about anybody that is famous using this style? What happened to those people actually?
“They have given up, of course! Or perhaps, dead? What other outcome could they possibly have? What do you expect from people who have such stupid belief when they encounter a life-or-death situation? This combat style is nothing but a fancy play that can only be used in the ring, which is why not many people would choose this style during a battle but seriously, I just didn’t expect that this style would last till today. Hmmm, we really have to give them a good teaching!” The Scholar snapped. It looked like she did not get along well with those people who used this style in her past life.
Baiyi could still vaguely remember a few of the battles that the Scholar had entered in her past life but she had never won before, not even once. It was also because of that, that she devoted her attention to become a scholar in the academia and even after she had managed to reach the DemiG.o.d Level, her actual combat capability was still as weak as a baby. If she was to come across an actual combat opponent like the Lich or the Sorcerer, she would still be defeated even if there were ten of her fighting against one of them.
In the face of opponents who liked to flaunt their self-righteous belief, Baiyi naturally had his own ways to take them down. Without another word, he gestured for Mia to come near him and whispered in her ears before finally patting her head and said, “These are my experience and the suggestions I have based on them. You can use this as a reference and do how you see fit. In short, don’t be afraid of that kid!”
“Oh yes, and this too!” Baiyi suddenly remembered something and took out two cotton b.a.l.l.s from his storage pouch. After infusing his Mana in it, he promptly inserted them into Mia’s little ears.
“Eh? B-But I can’t hear anything now?” Perplexed, she looked up and asked but Baiyi just gave her a big thumbs up without saying anything before sending her off to the ring.
“Sir Hope, why do you even have cotton b.a.l.l.s in your storage pouch? What do you plan to use it for?” A Walker could not suppressed his curiosity and asked.
Oh, it’s because our little girl likes to hop and skip a lot so I prepared this beforehand just in case she falls and I need to clean up her wound, Baiyi explained, After all, with my ident.i.ty, it’s not convenient for me to use Healing directly on her.
“My G.o.d! You even thought of that?”
What’s there to be surprised about? I’ve given my word to take care of her so, of course, I need to pay attention down to the smallest detail!” Baiyi announced proudly, I’ve even prepared the necessities that she needs during her menses, you know!
As he was conversing with the Walkers, the duel on the ring was about to start as well. The moment Jerry saw Mia entered the ring, he coolly leapt into the ring in a handsome manner and pulled a red rose out of his robe before they even exchange their greetings. Holding the rose in his palm, he announced loudly in a clear and loud voice, “Mia, please accept this flower that represents my love for you! From the moment I laid eyes on you, I’ve fallen deeply in love with you, your black long hair, your beautiful and round eyes…” He continued to express his love with a lot of cheesy lines that raised the gooseb.u.mps of the spectators without an ounce of shame
At once, loud voices could be heard condemning him from below the ring.
“Who the f*ck is this shameless b.a.s.t.a.r.d! How audacious can this guy be!”
“Urghh! Would you listen to those cliche cheesy lines? Yuck, how nauseating!”
“Ignore him Mia! That guy is an infamous playboy!”
Even the Voidwalkers were strongly objecting to the shameless act but before they could open their mouth to curse, they suddenly felt a slight quake in the Void that was usually peaceful
“OH, SH*T! Sir Hope is p.i.s.sed! He’s really mad right now!”
“C-Calm down, Sir Hope! Relax! There will be many more occasions in the future where Mia-chan will have to face these kind of people so you need to let her learn by herself how to deal with them!”
“The boy is just one ignorant student so I hope you will spare his life, Sir Hope. Killing an innocent in an academy is not a good thing…”
Putting on a facade and taking in a deep breath, Baiyi said with calmly, No, it’s nothing. I’m not mad. Don’t worry, I won’t kill him!
… E-Er, we felt the quake okay? It was obvious that you’re p.i.s.sed to the point that the Void was trembling with your anger. Don’t you know that you’re acting just like a father watching your own daughter being molested right now? The rest of the Walkers thought to themselves secretly. The few students just now who whistled and cat-called earlier had already received their retributions so although the boy would not die in the ring, the Walkers were pretty sure that once he had come down from the ring, he would inevitably suffer the rage of that old-fas.h.i.+oned father.
Fortunately, Mia seemed to be handling the situation quite calmly. Faced with such a cheesy confession, Mia still managed to keep her composure, she did not blush nor did she seemed to be disturbed at all. Instead, with a slightly tilted head and a confused expression, she looked at her opponent with a slightly sympathetic look and when he sent the rose over to her using his Mana, she simply grabbed it and handed it over to the referee without saying any word.
Looking at her reaction, Jerry’s face fell almost immediately. The beautiful girl in front of him appeared to be more haughty than every other girl that he had seen and did not have any reaction towards his confession at all but somehow, she still had that naive, innocent aura on her, as if she did not understand a word that he was saying at all. The contradiction messed with his composure but at the same time he could not help but feel even more intrigued by her. He dropped his pretentious facade and decided to conquer and tame the little girl in front of him.
Little did he know that the reason Mia was acting like that was because her ears were completely blocked by the cotton b.a.l.l.s that Baiyi had placed inside, blocking out all sounds… Therefore, other than successfully attracting the hatred from a certain Voidwalker, that little flamboyant performance of his had yielded absolutely no result at all.
After that unpleasant episode, the match finally started officially. Deciding to follow Baiyi’s advice, she quickly launched the Energy Absorption s.h.i.+eld and crushed a scroll before throwing it towards Jerry. Then, shutting both of her eyes tightly, she began to chant the incantation for an unknown spell.
A sneer appeared on the corner of Jerry’s mouth as he immediately cast a Sound Barrier and shut both of his eyes at the same time too. Using his Psychic Energy, he located Mia’s position while he thought to himself, Tsk, do you really think that I’m going to fall for this after seeing the effect just now?
However, when the scroll exploded, there was no Flare or Blare. Instead, a lump of sticky goo directly sprayed onto Jerry’s legs, gluing both of his feet firmly to the ground.
Startled, Jerry quickly opened his eyes and just in time, he saw the runes in front of Mia’s chest lit up, indicating that her incantation was completed and in an instance, his Psychic Energy could sense the ball of energy that was acc.u.mulating below his feet.
SH*T! Jerry’s heart skipped a beat and he panicked as he hastily tried to move his feet and get away from the growing ball of energy below but due to his miscalculation earlier, he was still firmly glued to the ground. Just as he was about to start the incantation for a Dispel Spell, he could see Mia who was standing not far away smiling and waving her hands at him.
Sigh~ What a beautiful smile… Jerry only had time for that one thought before the ball of energy below his feet finally exploded. At once, a huge explosion rushed out from under his feet and along with the noise that eerily sounded like fabric tearing, he was catapulted high up to the ceiling before he fell onto the ground outside of the ring. All that was left on stage was his shoes and the trouser legs that were still glued onto the floor.
It seemed like the goo that Baiyi had created was too sticky. Not only was the boy defeated in a miserable manner, that little green underwear of his was on display for everyone to see.
Just like that, Mia easily defeated the arrogant and seemingly mighty guy, the whole process was so fast that the spectators did not fully grasp what had just happened. After awhile, when they had finally realized what was going on, they felt like they had just watched a big reveal and gone through a huge enlightenment… W-What? This spell can be used like that, too?
“T-The scroll just now! Isn’t that just a normal Goo spell? B-But isn’t this spell only used in the laboratory when we’re handling magical materials? Why would anybody make it into a scroll?”
“It’s exactly because no one has made this into a scroll before that all of us did not see this coming in the first place. That idiot even thought that the scroll that Mia threw just now was the same as the one she used in her previous match!”
“The strategies that Mia used is so interesting! It’s like some sort of a magic trap, isn’t it? First, she fooled Jerry into shutting his eyes and used that goo glue his feet on the fround. Then she finally set the trap directly under his feet! Hahaha! This is too funny! Mia is pretty smart!”
“I know! I feel like I’m learning a lot just by watching her match! Honestly, before this, I thought that her chances of winning was not too big because Jerry was so strong and powerful but I really didn’t expect him to be defeated in such a way!”
That was the strategy that Baiyi had devised for Mia— a simple psychological game coupled with two unexpected spells. With barely any efforts, Mia easily beat her seemingly strong opponent, the entire process did not even take a minute.
When dealing with dirt, that small action was more than enough.
