Chapter 272: To Think You’ve Stooped to This LevelTranslator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
Huo Yanmei glared at Huo Beichen while he stood steadily in front of Tang Mo’er, seemingly protecting Tang Mo’er behind his strong front. She was disappointed and immediately walked in front of him to scold him. “Beichen, when did you hook up with this Tang Mo’er?”
‘Hook up’?
Huo Beichen didn’t like the phrase and his lips twitched in apparent dissatisfaction. “Aunt, when did you ever see me hooking up with her?”
“…”
Huo Yanmei was an experienced woman and she knew of her nephew’s more unsavory habits and how he treated women and his so-called relations.h.i.+ps. It was common news in the Capital that Huo Beichen changed girlfriends faster than he changed clothes. She knew that he never truly loved any of the women he dated. To him, women were merely conquests, a list of notches upon his many bedposts.
But her sixth sense told her that Huo Beichen treated Tang Mo’er differently and he had some feelings for her.
“Beichen, you should stay away from Tang Mo’er. She’s a vixen. Surely you know your brother was bewitched and head over heels for her. You shouldn’t let yourself be seduced by her. Let alone, the daughter of the Jun family will arrive in Karghalik in two days. I’m sure you’re aware that the Huo’s and Jun’s will be arranging your upcoming marriage with Miss Jun.”
“What Miss Jun? Aunt, you should go marry her if you yearn for the marriage so much!”
“You!”
By now, Tang Mo’er had already turned around and left. She had no interest in listening in on an argument between this aunt and her nephew.“Hey, Tang Mo’er, don’t leave. Wait!” Huo Beichen speedily chased after Tang Mo’er and left his aunt standing alone.
Hardly able to believe what had happened, Huo Yanmei stood at her original position and was deeply angered. Spinning on her heel, she turned back and saw Gu Tianling approaching her with Butler Ye behind him.
“Madam.” Butler Ye immediately greeted her.
Huo Yanmei glared at Butler Ye viciously and ignored him with a sneer. In her eyes, he was merely was a lowly servant, who settled all of Gu Tianling’s private affairs and arranged for those s.l.u.ts who seduced her husband.
“You can leave us.” Gu Tianling instructed him.
“Understood.” Butler Ye immediately left them alone.
“Gu Tianling, I heard that you’re thinking of sponsoring Tang Mo’er and making her your mistress. Don’t you find yourself revolting? Tang Mo’er was your son’s woman. How dare you even think of sleeping with her?” Huo Yanmei spat, barely able to suppress the anger simmering inside.
Gu Tianling had a gloomy expression after being infuriated by Tang Mo’er in the room and now that he had to face Huo Yanmei, he was in a foul mood. “Huo Yanmei, don’t interfere in my matters. I’ve already given you the position as Madam Gu, so you should just focus on being the Madam Gu you desired all along and keep your mind where it belongs.”
“I wouldn’t interfere in your affairs if you selected any woman other than Tang Mo’er. Have you thought about Mohan’s reaction when he learns about this? Mohan is your son!”
“Mohan is indeed my son, but he owes everything he owns today to the Gu family. Who is he without me? So what if she was with him? I’m determined to have Tang Mo’er and if Mohan dares to object, don’t blame me for being cold-hearted. I will make him lose everything if he forces my hand!”
Huo Yanmei reeled back as if he had slapped her. It was almost as though she had only just realized something since 30 years ago. Gu Tianling had lost his mind over Lin Xuanji.
Even after all these years, he still only had Lin Xuanji in his eyes.
He didn’t even care for his own son now.
Not even bothering to give Huo Yanmei another glance, Gu Tianling swung his sleeves and turned to leave.
But right after he took a step, he was stunned.
A person was standing in front of him.
Under the vintage lights, in an unnoticeable corner, a handsome man leaned against the wall in a lazy, languid pose. He had one hand in his pocket and a cigarette dangling from his lips, with his other hand slowly holding up a lighter. With a practiced flick of his wrist, it sparked, lighting up the man’s perfectly sculpted face as he moved his head closer to light up the cigarette.
Shoving the lighter back in his trouser pocket, he straightened up again, taking a slow, deliberate puff, before holding it between his two slender fingers. As he did so, he gave Gu Tianling a spurious smile through the smoky haze.
“Gu Tianling, it’s been years since we last met each other. Ha, to think you’ve stooped to this level, eyeing your son’s woman?”
