_Follow the road to the badly damaged village of_ =Beaucamps=, where there are numerous concrete shelters in the houses. _At the cross-roads turn to the left._ A wayside-cross, ten yards further on, indicate the road. Haubourdin suffered comparatively little from the sh.e.l.ls, but like all the other occupied towns of France, it was subjected to exactions, war-levies, deportations and pillage. The German soldiers, when relieved from the Hindenburg line, had their rest-billets there. The church (of no especial interest), the hospital (15th century), and a chapel built in 1347, are still preserved.
_After pa.s.sing through_ =Loos=, _return to_ =Lille=, _entering by the Bethune Gate_.
