Chapter 6-3
When Addie comes back, will she be able to compose any dialogue?
Letting things went unresolved, Mary sped up her paces to a cla.s.sroom.
Patrick and Alicia were already inside; upon seeing Mary’s form, Patrick apologized with an awkward laugh “I’m sorry for troubling you.”
Alicia who stood beside him was showing a fretful expression, she appeared about to cry………No, her eyes were somewhat tinted with red, mayhap she was crying until a moment ago.
Alicia was alarmed as she spotted Mary, almost automatically her shoulders leapt.
Realizing that, Patrick affectionately and gently stroked her pet.i.te shoulder.
“Mary, you should have figured out the reason you’re called.”
“Yes, I’m going to be dumped by you.”
Mary smirked.
Confronted by such an intrepid grin, Patrick smiled wryly; only Alicia’s face was growing aghast witnessing their exchange.
Hence, she raised her voice to interpolate “Please wait!”
“Mary-sama, I-I…….. Your engagement…..!”
“Alicia, I’ve said earlier, right?”
“But Patrick-sama, after all I………….I wish for you to have a marriage which is acknowledged by everyone.”
Looking at Alicia’s weeping figure, Mary recalled Addie’s speech previously.
From how their interchange proceeded, apparently she wanted to back off.
In fact, Alicia appealed to Patrick that Mary is an appropriate companion for him. Considering their social status, the impacts and their surrounding it’s a sound a.s.sessment. Mary and Patrick were a perfect political-marriage couple.
Of course, it was decided without the consent of the people involved, still this was what marriage of conventional fundamentally entailed.
Thence Alicia pleaded for some time, listening to her full-of tears entreaty Patrick was struggling hard to stop her but to a futile attempt; Mary blew an air.
“You b.u.mpkin girl, are you trying to offer me a man?”
She called out to Alicia.
“Mary?”
“……….Mary-sama?”
Toward Mary’s disorienting endeavor, Patrick and Alicia gaped at her.
Unaffected by those two reactions, Mary continued to laugh daringly.
“Are you telling me that yours truly, Mary Albert, would be happy to receive a castoff man from a hayseed like you?”
Her boisterous laughter was incontestably of a villain’s one.
However, there’s no smidgen of being affronted in their behaviors, let alone a furor to her ridicules.
Naturally, Mary’s words held no offence. Honestly speaking, it’s her usual difficult-to-decipher way of communicating, in her own manner she was acceding their relationship.
“Mary, all of these troubles was me to blame. For the breaking of our engagement, I won’t mind if you stretch a reason that benefit you. “
“Oh my, thanks for your concern.”
“Mary-sama……….I, have no intention to be a hindrance for Mary-sama. I really think you two suit each other. So………”
“Please spare me from a man who fell to a country girl.”
Intercepting her, Mary aligned her sight to Patrick’s.
His eyes were resolute, hand still draped around Alicia’s shoulder. Accepting Mary’s gaze, as if answering her, he met it unswervingly.
“Heretofore I’ve always abided my parent’ caprices to be a model successor of Dice House. Now it’s different, I’ll become a man Alicia’s wish for. I’ll live together with Alicia.”
For Patrick’s p.r.o.nouncement of his oath, Mary nodded contentedly.
Patrick was a dyed in the wool aristocrat gentleman. His paternal raised him so, and correspondingly he reacted so. And now he decided to throw everything away to be alongside Alicia.
I let go such a good man…………., an ironical remark inadvertently drifted inside her mind, Mary chuckled frivolously.
“Well, how’re you planning to divulge this to your parent? After they meticulously nurtured an ideal son, nevertheless he instead chose a commoner girl. It won’t surprise me if they faint.”
“I’ve no other choice but to persuade them. Yet if they can’t accept it, I’ll happily discard Dice House.”
“No way, Patrick-sama!”
Patrick grabbed the blanched Alicia’s arm.
Their actions reminded Mary of Addie’s previous disagreements.
“For him to tumble from his pedigree”
Even if it was to become reality, Patrick’s apt.i.tudes and talents wouldn’t be lost in the drain.
It’s obvious. His rank wasn’t what his parents bestowed to him; it’s something he achieved through utilizing his flairs and hard works. Sure, his family name was something he took for granted.
Moreover, even if Patrick was reduced to a mere commoner he might easily climb up again. He’s a resourceful man; rather he possibly could elevate his family to be a first-degree n.o.ble in one generation.
Nevertheless from Alicia’s angle, she’d not just deprive him off his family name but his connections to his blood relatives.
What she’d give in return is a plain live of a plebeian. It’s totally poles apart from how aristocracies have, inconvenient and ordinariness days.
Perchance, he might uplift his standing; regardless they’d be a meaningless labor he could avoid in the first place. ‘Love’s sacrifices’ may sound grand, yet the costs are clearly too hefty.
Scared of such possibilities, Alicia with glistening eyes frenziedly pulled Patrick’s arm and repet.i.tively solicited, “Please don’t”
Looking at Alicia, Mary narrowed her eyes. If she hadn’t heard Addie’s talk, would she able to understand Alicia’s feeling?
Well, as she’s understood now………..Mary’s lips lifted up.
She got the hang of Alicia’s and Patrick’s circ.u.mstances. Patrick’s determination to live with Alicia, Alicia’s trepidation for robbing everything out of Patrick, both she could sympathize with.
For she commiserated them, let’s hear each of their opinions……..as if, she wouldn’t beat around the bush; that’s Mary Albert’s persona.
“Since you’re that desperate to refuse it, don’t tell me are you after his fortunes?”
So you’re exposing your true face now? Mary sarcastically scoffed.
Hearing her question, Alicia inhaled deeply and with a pasty complexion glared at Mary.
“What nonsense is that!? I love Patrick-sama as a person. Even losing his social status, my feelings won’t ever change!”
Receiving Mary’s words, Alicia, while br.i.m.m.i.n.g with tears, for the first time declared so with unprecedented strength.
Being glared on, Mary involuntary heaved a sigh.
“Then, there’s no problem, isn’t it? Or is your fracas just for show?”
“Ah, Mary-sama……..I………”
*sob* sniveling, Alicia with gleaming eyes met Mary’s gaze.
But in respond to that, Mary announced that she was sick and tired of it and dampened the whole mood.
Word of grat.i.tude like, ‘thank you’ was essentially something unsuited to be directed to a villain. She didn’t have the hobby of being victimized, nonetheless being thanked for was totally embarra.s.sing for her, and she didn’t like it.
“I’ve zero intention to say ‘congratulation’. However, well, you can count on me to conceive my father instead.”
“It’s through and through a word of congratulation from you Mary, thank you.”
Accepting Patrick’s relieved voice, Mary finally felt she cannot stand it anymore and want to turn her heels from them.
In front of her there’s a quivering girl with an exultant countenance, plus she’s thanking her, even she wasn’t a villain lady, it’s an excruciating occurrence for her.
Hence, Mary hurriedly dashed out and opened the cla.s.sroom’s door…….Addie was leaning on the wall as his eyes rounded.
“To eavesdropping is a bad manner, you know.”
“In that situation I can’t possibly come inside, right?”
“Well, that’s true. Then, did you buy my drink?”
“………….Eh?”
What’re you talking about? Dodging the question, Addie seemingly to have remembered their conversation a while ago and quickly conjured an answer.
“W-well, you see, the cafeteria! The cafeteria is still open, so I thought rather than buying a drink it’d better to have a tea after your conversation end!”
“………….It’s simply unbelievable, but I’ll buy your lie.”
“I’ve prepared Black Tea and cakes. After all, today is a celebration!”
“Celebration? If you’re referring to Patrick and Alicia’s engagement isn’t it too soon?”
“No today is the celebration of you getting dumped, Ojou.”
“If you wish, I don’t mind to celebrate your dismissal appointment.”
In respond to his habitual un-servant-like insolence – moreover to a lady who’s just been discarded – Mary ferociously glowered at him.
………..Nevertheless, she’s more disappointed as Addie’s face was flourishing outlandishly. ‘This attendant, he’s extremely happy that his master’s engagement got terminated.’(Mary)
Without uttering any complaint to Addie, Mary sighed, then she heard blissful voices of a girl and a boy, once again she heaved a sigh.
Incidentally, as she told her father about her engagement cessation, his very first words were
“Ah, as I expected”
Furthermore, he added.
“I’ve thought that he’d resign from it,” being told so, even Mary wanted to cry.

There’s so much things to comment on in this chapter, from Addie funny and blatant demeanor to Mary pitiful quandary with irresponsible people surrounding her. I want to pat Mary’s head and deliver one or two good punches to her father who still could say that after he’s so easily engaged her to Patrick. Arg, geez…..
