Hero Of The World

Chapter 71

Once the chief got his bearing back he looked at Ned as if wanting to see if he is pranking him.

"Ned you know that how much beasts you left here for us would possibly last us years. After all we are barely one hundred" the chief said, and from the size of the beasts he knew that even one or two a day would be enough for the whole clan.

"I was going to sell them, but if they will help you then of course I will give them to you. Don"t get me wrong, I"m not a hero or savior, it just happened that I had what you need." Ned said.

When he thought about it, his first thought was to help them since he had the means. At least it proved that he was a good man.

"Nonetheless you helped my clan. And we should reward you." The chief said.

Ned shook his head in denial.

"I insist" The chief was persistent until Ned gave a nod of approval.

"You must know that dwarfs are good smiths? We forge the best weapons that anybody could possibly use." The chief said as he beckoned for Ned to follow him upstairs from the cold room, then to a different house.

Once inside Ned found many shelves on the walls each holding many weapons for display.

The chief started explaining, "The Atrium metal is the strongest known metal, and I"m proud to say, no one but the dwarfs can work with it. All weapons here are either from high purity steel, or from Atrium. You can choose whatever you like. Go on look for yourself." The chief said.

Ned even if he didn"t plan on taking any weapons, he was still going to look at the best weapons of this world. At least in this clan of dwarfs.

He found shields, swords in all kinds, daggers, knifes, bows, axes, hammers. To his knowledge humans could only use daggers knifes or swords. Since they didn"t have training methods for the other weapons, they would only trap themselves if they tried mastering them.

But the dwarfs he had seen along the way, had hammers, axes, and bows, but even so he was confident they didn"t follow the same path the humans and other races did.

He changed his mind about not taking any weapons, when he saw an intricately designed belt holding six knifes.

He had no use for the belt as he had small ones around his thighs that could hold three knifes each, however he wanted the six good looking knifes.

The chief seeing him stand along the knifes explained, "These are made from Atrium, they are throwing knifes. Nearly indestructible due to how many times they were refined in the forge."

"Can I take them?" Ned asked as he turned to the chief.

Giving a nod the chief said, "Sure, but you still have to take other things. And don"t refuse I must insist."

Ned didn"t know how to fix this, and after a few seconds of musing, he brought his weapons out, and showed them to the dwarf, while taking the swords out of the belt and placing them inside his inventory.

The chief took the daggers first.

Ned noticed how the chiefs eyes widened immediately. Then he picked the sword and stroked it gently. Then he took the staff.

"These weapons are priceless and I can tell the metal they are made of is stronger than Atrium. I can understand why you don"t want to take any weapons. Even if your weapons are a bit weaker than some that are here, in time they will surpa.s.s them all. And I won"t ask you where you got them don"t worry. Hmm let"s see, do you have any scabbards for them?" The chief said.

Ned gave a nod and brought his sword scabbard and small ones for his daggers.

The chief shook his head, "These aren"t worthy of your weapons, and you don"t have any for your staff do you?" Leading him deep inside he showed him some good ones and let him choose.

Finally after picking the dwarf chief explained, "All the ones you chose have a special enchantment on them."

Ned wanted to know what enchantment, even if he could just scan them, he wanted to hear it from the master"s mouth. He had picked a type of small belt that could hold his staff on his back too.

"No one but you can take them out of their scabbards. And in the case of you throwing them at an enemy, you will find that it will fly back into your hands or be sheathed on it"s own." The chief said with a smile.

Ned was surprised at this useful ability. And gave a thanks to the chief who just shook his head.

"What you gave us, could probably rival the price of half the weapons here combined. And you only took scabbards and knifes. I"m deeply ashamed I don"t have anything else to offer you." The chief said lowering his head shamefully.

While Ned put his hands on his shoulder and just said, "Friends don"t say such things. I helped you because I wanted to, no need for a reward."

The chief gave a small smile and nodded grateful.
