Chapter 44
"Did you find them?" I asked Philip for the hundredth time as Colin -a nurse I hired- measured my blood pressure . I watched him press on some black, football-shaped pump as the patch tightened around my biceps puffed up considerably .
"Actually-" I heard him sigh . "Well- you know . Not exactly . "
I frowned at his indecisiveness . "It is a yes or a no," I said firmly as I noticed the frown on Colin"s face as he focused on the numbers in front of him .
"Well," he started hesitantly . "-they don"t exactly live in a -uh- normal place . It"s some kind of an old garage with lots of used, destroyed cars toppled over each other . It was unlocked . Maybe to decrease suspicion -I"m not quite sure . "
"A garage?" I repeated watching the puffed patch lose its air .
"I know -uh- incredibly shady, if you ask me . But I think we saw one of the-" he sighed as I heard him shift .
"Where are you now?" I demanded, closing my eyes . He was blabbering .
"At home . Why, sir?" His voice was curious and low as if he knew he was in trouble .
He really was . It"s been a week of him searching for them, Ricardo"s sons, and a week of not disappointing my son . I wanted to show him that only my kind of ways worked in our kind business .
"At home?" I mocked . "Who gave you the permission?"
"It is after eight . Sir . " He added, lowering his voice even more .
"My son wouldn"t understand that . " I almost yelled as Colin removed the patch from my arm . "He"s expecting me to end this and you"re failing . "
"Sir-"
"Get out there! Go to that b.l.o.o.d.y garage again and make sure that whoever"s there took his last breath seconds before a bullet flies through his b.l.o.o.d.y head!" I said forcefully as I heard more shuffling on his side . I was beyond furious .
"Okay . Yes, sure, sir . " He stammered and I sighed .
"Please . Just finish this . " I panted out . "I"d prefer it if you killed just one of them . Let the other know who he"s messing with . And leave him a message . Tell him that I let him live out of mercy especially after knowing that he"s the w.a.n.ker"s son . Tell him that he better give the doc.u.ments . " I dictated . "Tell him that I wouldn"t stand them to mess this up like their father did . "
"Yes, Sir . Abso-"
"Take as many men as you need . But before my head hits the pillow today I want to hear that one of them is dead . Do you understand me, Philip? Have I made myself clear?" My voice was obviously strained .
"Of course . Yes . I"ll do what I c"
"What you can is what I want done, Philip," I warned . "I will not accept another failed attempt . "
"I- yes, Sir . Sorry," he said quickly as I sighed heavily .
"Good . " I looked at Colin"s bald head as he pressed a stethoscope to my chest and hung up on Philip .
I took a deep breath, shook my head and sank in my bed . Colin leaned away with the stethoscope and stared at me . I caught his eyes as he smiled carefully .
"Is there something that deserves my concern?" I asked him solidly and he looked like he was afraid to speak .
Well, he heard the friendly, casual conversation I was having with Philip .
"Your blood pressure is quite high," he muttered, averting his gaze .
"Does it deserve my concern?" I pressed and his head was caught up in a shake-nod fight . So I raised my eyebrows .
"You should cut down on salty food . " The words tumbled out of his mouth, leaving a regretful look in his eyes .
"So you tell me to cut down on salty food? And the b.l.o.o.d.y doctor tells me to cut down on sweet food . " I said scowling as I shifted in my bed . "What now? Am I supposed to start eating citrus peels and coffee beans and start drinking sour, b.l.o.o.d.y milk now?"
"You can add some sugar to the cof-"
"Are you being absolutely serious?" I yelled and he flinched .
"And maybe you should try being le-less angry all the time . " He blurted and I was shut by his audacity .
"Did I hire you to tell me how I should behave?" I uttered calmly, lifting my eyebrows .
"You hired me so that I could take care of your health because you"re too busy for it . " He repeated robotically what I told him when he first came here .
"Exactly . So please do not deviate from your purpose . " I snapped sharply and he nodded reluctantly .
"I didn"t mean to offend you . Sir . " He said apologetically and I sighed .
"Right . Leave now . " I ordered and he immediately took all the medical stuff he came with, nodded once in my direction, turned around and left .
I then sighed heavily and closed my eyes . It was eight-thirty and I wouldn"t sleep until I got a call from Philip, telling me that everything had been managed .
The way I wanted them to be .

Julius"s POV .
Julius"s POV .
I thought I still looked very weird and not as handsome as Augustus claimed me to be as I stared at my slightly new reflection in my bathroom mirror . I didn"t think that I looked so stunning to the extent that Augustus insisted I deserved a picture through his camera . And I remembered standing awkwardly in the middle of the park with people walking past me every second as Augustus sat on one knee, raised his camera to his right eye, closed his left eye and clicked a picture of me with a huge grin on his face . My hands were in my pockets and I wasn"t smiling . I was glaring at him .
I didn"t think I looked good in black hair and eyebrows .
I splashed some water on my face anyway before brushing my teeth . I still couldn"t believe how I let Augustus steer me through this vile decision because, "G.o.d, Julio, you need some change . If you aren"t gonna change internally, then do it externally!" Because "For me, Julio . Do it for your only brother in life . Make me feel useful . "
I remembered trying not to be violent with him due to his repet.i.tive request "to change" . And he thought that "Yes . Black . Dye your hair black . So that it"d match your heart . That"s what you"d like right?" I remembered rolling my eyes at his absurdity and vehemently refusing before he childishly hid my phone away and "decided" that a deal was in order .
Phone for dyed hair . As if dying my hair made me feel any better .
Needless to say, I wouldn"t have bothered the least bit, but I was awfully worried about Father"s unresponsiveness . And thus, I grimly agreed .
I walked out of the bathroom in a towel and sighed when I found Augustus sprawled on the living room"s couch in his boxers and socks . His right arm and leg touched the floor, his white-blond hair was wild, and his mouth was wide open . The blanket, he stole from me in the middle of the night, did little to cover him .
I walked past him, ran my hand through my dyed, black hair and got into my room . It was thirteen hundred hours and thirty minutes when I checked my phone for any missed calls .
There were none .
I shrugged, pulled on some black jeans and a plain white T-shirt . It was getting so much hotter . I reached for my black leather jacket nonetheless and pulled it on . I then tucked my gun, ignoring the fact that Samantha"s soft hands were once curled around it .
I then walked back to Augustus and shook him awake . His eyes were narrow slits staring at me as he sat up with a loud groan . He then rubbed his eyes, stretched his back with two "clicks" and yawned as the blanket slid off his chest into his laps . I watched him with crossed arms across my chest .
"Why didn"t you return home?" was what I first said . He then stretched his arms in front of him as he turned his neck from left to right . He then let out a satisfied sigh and stifled a yawn .
"I was very tired . " He said after all his stretching .
"Clearly," I said with a smirk . "Now, get up . We have to leave . "
He stretched his right leg and then winced . "Ah, my leg"s numb as h.e.l.l . "
"Well, you didn"t see how you were sleeping," I stated grimly and he rolled his eyes .
"Well, you didn"t see how you were sleeping," he said . "You took the whole d.a.m.n bed . I would"ve been sleeping there if it weren"t for your sprawled majesty . And I wouldn"t have woken up with a numb leg and a clicking back . "
"We have to leave . " I pressed undeterred .
"What"s got your panties in a twist, mate?" He shook his head with a frown . "There"s nothing you have to do . "
Well . I"ve been feeling very suffocated lately . And I can"t stand staying back here . Father didn"t respond to my request yet . And I also, haven"t seen Samantha for a while . And, my, Gustus, it hurts- was what I wanted to tell him .
"I need cigarettes . " I lied with a sigh .
"I need cigarettes . " I lied with a sigh .
"I actually thought you"ve quit smoking . " He said bemusedly with a raised brow .
I studied him for a while . I didn"t smoke for almost a month . I never planned to "quit" smoking . Smoking felt like something that tied me to Father . And once I realized it, I decided that this tie needed severing . It had seemed like I severed it without even thinking about it .
"You"re wrong . " I lied again bitterly .
Augustus stared at me curiously before clicking his tongue once and getting up . He brushed past me and into the bathroom . My gaze then dropped to the floor where I noticed Augustus"s car keys . I picked them up with a jingle with one thought on my mind .
It had been more than a week of me asking Father to do something about Maxime and Leonard . He was too late . It either meant that he couldn"t find them yet . Or something bad happened . And the latter was much more likely .
His silence was scaring me .
Augustus was soon out of the bathroom and roaming around the suite . I reached for my phone and dialled Father"s number . His phone was as always unavailable . I huffed out a heavy sigh that was loaded with my countless woes . I squeezed my eyes shut and rubbed them with my right index finger and thumb . I then sighed again heavily, dropping my hands to my side .
Augustus was standing in faded slim-fitted jeans, a white shirt, a leather jacket with a rich plum shade and black combat boots . I sighed at the figure of my fancy brother as he took out his silver sungla.s.ses and pushed them back on his, probably, finger-combed hair . I glanced at his bright, ocean eyes and almost smiled .
He nodded toward the door with a smirk and we were soon out .
When we were on the street, we stood next to each other watching the cars speed by, waiting for the right moment to cross the street . He had lowered his sungla.s.ses and I was shading my eyes from the torturous sun with my hand .
"Sure you don"t want to use the car?" He yelled over the noise of the cars" honking and people"s chattering . I shook my head still staring ahead of me . I was already sweating through my white shirt .
"We"ll just cross the b.l.o.o.d.y road for cigarettes," I muttered under the blaring heat as I watched people standing by us fan themselves with brochures, newspapers, booklets, etc .
A double-decker slowed down toward us, stopped, took some people in, then moved with a low rumble out of sight . Augustus was already starting to cross the street when I stopped dead in my tracks .
My mouth went dry and my heart fatally crashed into my stomach . I blinked as I glimpsed a slim figure, dressed in a b.u.t.toned, knee-length scarlet coat and black pumps standing at the other side of the street . She had huge sungla.s.ses and her head was covered by a black headscarf . I watched her gloved hand reach for her sungla.s.ses to push them up, but another bus pa.s.sed in front of me .
I was on my toes trying hard to see . To make sure that I wasn"t hallucinating . But when the bus pa.s.sed, all I could see was her back as she walked away relentlessly . So I crossed the road blindly, forgetting about Augustus . Forgetting about everything .
I knew her too well . I knew those lips, this nose, this delicate hand, this delicious sway of her body while she waited for something .
I couldn"t believe it . What was she doing here?
Several honks and a dozen cuss words later, I was walking slowly in the tight alley I saw Samantha walk through . It had lots of trash cans with garbage bags strewn all over the floor . There were several stray cats running between my feet, whining and scrambling in the garbage cans . The AC units around me hummed and leaked, staining the graffiti-decorated walls with water trails .
I was being stupid just by allowing myself to follow her .
And then I saw her stand in front of the wall at the alley"s dead end . Her back faced me . I slowed down and approached her with my heart in my mouth . I tried swallowing it back when I was just a few inches away . I reached for her headscarf and pulled it absentmindedly .
She quickly turned as her scarf slipped off her hair to her neck . And I remember having held my breath when I saw her very blue eyes stare in mine with parted, red-stained lips . My heart had successfully managed to escape from my thoracic cavity again .

I wasted no time in holding her in my arms and hugging her tight . Face nestled in her hair and hands held tight around her waist . I then pulled back and let my hand travel in her hair .
She wasn"t resisting .
And that realization seemed to kill me as much as revive me .
"I missed you so much . " I breathed, cupping her face in my hands . Her eyes fluttered close as the corner of her lips quivered .
"You have no idea . " She whispered . "I"m sorry . "
I shook my head vigorously as my hands rubbed her arms . "What for? Don"t be sorry, love . I love you . You never have to be sorry . I love you, so much . " There was no control . No proper thinking . No common sense . I mean, blimey, what did common sense even mean?
She tilted her head and smiled and I believed it . So I leaned in and brushed my lips with her soft ones . She then parted them and all my organs flew out of their cases . They were finally liberated by a kiss in a filthy alley .
She broke the kiss for some air and I had to shake my head once and twice and thrice to make sure I wasn"t dreaming .
It just didn"t make sense . But common sense? Who were you to dare intervene in such a heavenly moment? The moment I thought only existed in dreams and fairy-tales .
"But I really am sorry . " She purred as her hands slipped under my shirt . I looked down at her hands and back into her eyes . And thought, Lord, yes, she was trying to give me a cardiac arrest .
I pulled her closer to me and placed my lips on her soft neck as I let my teeth graze her skin gently . When I"ve inhaled enough of her, of the drug that I"d gotten addicted to without even realizing, I looked up at her with wide, disbelieving eyes . And I thought she seemed to notice, but she pulled me in a soft, heart-sizzling kiss . Her palms pressed on my bare torso, under my shirt . She kissed me like she meant it .
"I love you, Mantha . " I murmured next to her ears . And she moaned softly before I pushed her back to the wall behind her and threw off my leather jacket as she took off her pumps .
I felt her hands travel in my hair and wondered when did she learn to do all that . I thought she was innocent, but she was so, so bad .
I lifted her swiftly and she wrapped her legs around my waist and I almost screamed from how much I wanted more of her . Of this touch, this smell, this so exotic feeling of euphoria .
I pressed her harder to the wall as she tilted back her head and clutched her scarf in her hand . She then looked down at me and locked my eyes . I was hyperventilating with desire and I thought she looked oddly sad .
"I"m sorry for this . " She said robotically and my smile faltered momentarily as my eyes flickered to her hand that clutched the scarf . She then pressed the scarf to my nose with impossible force and I dropped her immediately .
But it was too late . I had inhaled enough .
I noticed her look at me with disgust before my vision blurred and I gave the floor the biggest hug ever as darkness? As darkness spat in my face before swallowing me .
I don"t even remember having to time to comprehend the disaster that was coming my way .
