Chapter 1115: Thousand Waves Palace’s Motive

Making use of an undercover to plot against the opponent was a simple trick of beating somebody at their own game. After hanging around Fearless for such a long time, w.a.n.g Yu was naturally not unfamiliar with these.

Evidently, Thousand Waves Palace knew that there was an undercover from Mystery Pavilion in their own guild which was why they did what they did.

“Perhaps.”

After being pointed out by w.a.n.g Yu, Mystery Observer nodded depressingly. Mystery Observer would be extremely oblivious if he couldn’t even tell that at this point in time.

Even so, Unfathomable Mystery commented, “City Lord Iron Bull makes sense but I don’t understand something. If they want to plot against us, they could have just given us the Black Decree from the start. Why did they bother running away with it?”

“You have to ask the party involved about this.” w.a.n.g Yu paused for a moment before s.h.i.+fting his gaze towards Five Flagtree.

When Five Flagtree noticed everyone looking at her, she was stunned as she hurriedly waved her hands, “I… I don’t know ah…”

“You don’t know?” Mystery Observer didn’t look pleased as he replied, “How can you not know when you’re from Thousand Waves Palace?”

“I…” Five Flagtree was surprised, “When you guys had me surrounded, Boss simply gave me that and got the sisters to protect me all the way out… I’m not too sure about everything else too.”

When w.a.n.g Yu saw Five Flagtree’s current expression, he didn’t think that she was lying. Instead, he asked, “So why did you head to Twilight City?”

“Back then, we were surrounded near the Sunset Valley and our Boss got us to run towards Twilight City. In order to prevent the Mystery Pavilion’s players from taking the Black Decree, I pa.s.sed it to you.”

“Ohh?”

Hearing Five Flagtree’s words, Mystery Observer started scratching his chin as if deep in thoughts.

On the other hand, w.a.n.g Yu’s heart sunk.

d.a.m.n it! The other party was clearly targeting w.a.n.g Yu if she got people to cross cities just to pa.s.s it over to him.

Unfathomable Mystery also managed to infer from this conversation as he asked, “Could it be that the Thousand Waves Palace is targeting City Lord Iron Bull?”

“This does not make complete sense too!” Mystery Observer explained, “Twilight City and Salat City are divided by a faction and there is not much interaction between the two main cities. So how did City Lord Iron Bull end up being a target of the Thousand Waves Palace?”

“No!” w.a.n.g Yu answered, “There are definitely people from Thousand Waves Palace who know me. In fact, he knows me so well that he knows all about my habits so this is undoubtedly not without any planning.”

From how Five Flagtree explained, it seemed evident that w.a.n.g Yu was tricked into this challenge dungeon.

Sunset Valley was a high-level monster zone where ordinary players wouldn’t wander around there for long. It might be suspicious for players from Twilight City to appear there but it made perfect sense if players from other main cities accidentally fought their way there.

Moreover, the other party must have predicted that w.a.n.g Yu wouldn’t stand idle to watch Five Flagtree. In fact, he even predicted that w.a.n.g Yu would deliver the token all the way to Salat City. Evidently, this person must have interacted with w.a.n.g Yu before to know his character.

Additionally, Five Flagtree appeared right when w.a.n.g Yu was training. This proved that the other party understood w.a.n.g Yu’s gaming tendency.

Besides all these, it felt as though Mystery Observer’s last-minute intervention was also part of the other party’s plan.

Everything from the very beginning, even the smallest details, seemed to have been planned by the other party.

After playing the game for such a long time, w.a.n.g Yu only knew of Fearless who could be this scheming and forward-thinking… Moreover, Fearless and w.a.n.g Yu had been hanging out with each other for such a long time so he was certainly extremely familiar with w.a.n.g Yu’s character and habits.

It was simply too horrifying to even think about this possibility.

“No way… Could Fearless be that bored to try and trick me?”

At the thought of this, w.a.n.g Yu shook his head as he tossed this ridiculous idea out of his head.

After all, w.a.n.g Yu had immense trust in Fearless. Just like how Fearless knew w.a.n.g Yu, w.a.n.g Yu knew Fearless as well. Fearless will not benefit from doing anything like this and given their relations.h.i.+p, Fearless wouldn’t do anything like that if there were no substantial benefits for him. Naturally, he would never think of plotting against w.a.n.g Yu unless he was forced to the corner.

So who could it be? And why?

In that instant, w.a.n.g Yu’s head was cracking.

Mystery Observer cried out by the side, “F*ck! Since this is the case, that means they’re not even out to target us?! We’ve been dragged into this… No, I must carve out the word ‘innocent’ on this wall to express my current state of mind.”

“Dragged into this?” w.a.n.g Yu replied faintly, “I doubt so… It is quite clear that the other party is targeting you guys too.”

“Targeting us?” Mystery Observer replied, “Why do you say that?”

w.a.n.g Yu replied in a casual tone, “Because before you arrive at the resurrection point, the Black Decree had been in my hand the entire time. If the Thousand Waves Palace was only targeting me, they could have done it at that point in time. Why did they wait for you to intervene before acting? It seems like they have predicted your arrival and planned to act only when the two of us made that transaction. They wanted to eliminate both of us at one stroke.”

“Right! That’s it…” Just when w.a.n.g Yu finished his sentence, Unfathomable Mystery suddenly thought of something as he cried out, “On my way to the resurrection point, I did meet a few people and I overheard them saying something along the lines of eliminating everyone together.”

“Oh?” w.a.n.g Yu questioned, “What people?”

“I didn’t manage to recognise them but the person who fought me was not weak at all. He even had two tiny rolls of beard on his face,” Unfathomable Mystery replied.

“Tiny beard?” w.a.n.g Yu thought hard as he furrowed his brows. He was certain that he had met such a fella previously.

“So what did they talk about?” Mystery Observer probed.

Unfathomable Mystery answered, “I didn’t hear the specific details but their general intention is to eliminate all of us the moment you get your hand on the Black Decree. Back then, there were many of them and they were all of decent strength. The moment I realise I cannot fight my way through, I’ve decided to kill myself but I was still too late.”

“My condolences, my condolences…”

w.a.n.g Yu comforted Unfathomable Mystery before continuing his inquiries, “We don’t know each other from before but they are targeting both of us. What does this even mean?”

“What do you mean?” Mystery Observer stood up and pointed at Five Flagtree, “Why don’t we just ask her?”

After saying that, Mystery Observer took out his dagger and walked sheepishly towards Five Flagtree. He threatened, “Hurry up and tell me what you bunch of black-hearted fellas were up to? Do you see that resurrection point over there? Since I’m getting bored here, I really will not mind killing you just for the fun of it.”

COMMENT

Five Flagtree exclaimed when she realised the situation she was in, “I… I really don’t know. I’m merely an ordinary player in the guild to help them handle menial tasks. I do whatever I’m told to do so I have no rights to know any of the secrets she had.”

Players like that were mainly tasked to lure monsters, deliver the equipment dropped from monsters back to the city or deliver medicines to the other players in the squad. This way, they could work on their running ability which helped to increase their levels.

Characteristics of such players were evident: Weak but could run extremely fast… In order to lure monsters, they had to be long-distance players as well. Therefore, the majority of them were Archers.

Five Flagtree fit every unique characteristic of such a player.

w.a.n.g Yu knew just how tough the jobs of these low-level players were. When he saw how sad Five Flagtree looked, w.a.n.g Yu couldn’t help but feel pity for her.

“Alright… Stop forcing her. How would she possibly know anything?” w.a.n.g Yu extended his arm to pull Mystery Observer to the side.

Mystery Observer was in disbelief as he argues, “City Lord Iron Bull, she is the main culprit who got us here. Do you really trust her?”

“This is not a matter of trust,” w.a.n.g Yu continued, “You know that there is no getting out of here and if she knew everything, why would she still be in here with us?”

“This…” Mystery Observer was slightly dazed as he kept his dagger.

Indeed, everyone played this game to have fun and getting trapped in this dungeon was equivalent to being stuck in prison. Why would any ordinary human make such a huge sacrifice?

This was especially true for professional players. The gaming world was one where anyone could strike it rich at any given point in time. Even though the chances of that happening for players of Five Flagtree’s level was low, she was still receiving a stable income. Who knows if she could coincidentally b.u.mp into a G.o.d-grade equipment someday and strike it rich herself. Evidently, n.o.body would want to give up on that so easily.

Seeing how w.a.n.g Yu chose to believe her at this point in time, Five Flagtree was so touched that her eyes were filled with tears. She whispered, “Big Brother Iron Bull, even though I don’t know what my boss is trying to do, I do not believe they are simply doing this to go against you guys.”

Just because they didn’t do anything to Five Flagtree didn’t mean that they didn’t have opinions of this lady. When Mystery Observer heard that, he was instantly infuriated, “Now this is interesting. If she wasn’t going against us, why did she trap us here? We can leave if she didn’t want to see us so why did she have to resort to imprisonment? Are you still trying to defend your Boss at a time like this?”

“I’m not…” Five Flagtree tried to defend herself softly but chose to lower her head instead.

When w.a.n.g Yu heard their conversation, his eyes suddenly lit up, “Little Five might be right. I feel like Shroom Devil King’s target for trapping us in here might not be us.”

“What do you mean?” Mystery Observer was stunned.

If her target wasn’t them, why did she punish them with life imprisonment? In that case, wouldn’t she find a GM to remove them from the game if she was actually targeting them?

w.a.n.g Yu replied faintly, “I’m guessing that they are trying to target someone else but they are worried that we might intervene which is why they trapped us here.”

“Big Brother, we are divided by an entire faction. Do we even have any mutual friend?” Mystery Observer asked.

w.a.n.g Yu replied, “I’m not sure how many people you know but I only know people from Quan Zhen Sect.”

“I’m not even familiar with all the great G.o.ds in Quan Zhen Sect.” Mystery Observer complained, “Why am I even involved?”

“This…” w.a.n.g Yu thought for a while, “You guys are probably here just to prevent any future troubles.”
