"I don"t think it"s a good idea for you to go back sweetie. There are so many great colleges besides North Star University," Katherine told her daughter. She sat on a comfy sofa, her tiny legs dangling down barely touching the floor. She look at her daughter with love and patience. Saya heaved a sigh to control her emotions. She knew this was going to be the outcome when she informed her parents of her intentions to attend North Star University.
"Mom you know it"s always been my dream to attend NSU. It"s yours and dad"s alma mater. I been dreaming of attending it since I was a little girl."
"Saya…"
"Honey, your mother and I are worried. Are you sure your prepared to see him again after two years? I know you"d made incredible progress but I don"t think it"s wise to reopen old wounds. And whose going to a.s.sist us with our cases if you go," Saya"s father Reo stated.
Reo Summers was a regal man with handsome features that were slightly touched by time and age. Like his wife he looked at his daughter with love but also understanding. Staring at the mother daughter duo he couldn"t help but smile. They look more like sisters with his wife"s unchanging looks. They both were of small stature with milky white skin and delicate features.
"Dad we both know that even without me you and mom will be fine. There probably isn"t any case you two can"t solve. You both been solving cases long before I was born. I"ll do my best to avoid contact with Haru but if I happen to see him I"ll be fine. I promise. It"s been two years, I"ve moved on, and I"m sure he has too," Saya said gently, her voice unwavering.
Katherine and Reo listened to their daughter. Looking at each other they communicated their feelings and thoughts effortlessly without words. It"s only been two years since they abruptly left the country and while their naive daughter thought that was enough time for her heart, they knew better. But they also knew that Saya has made up her mind and nothing they say will change it. Sometimes parents need to make the tough decision to let their child walk their own path no matter how much they disagree with it.
"Fine but we have some conditions," said Katherine.
…..
Saya stepped out of the taxi and stared at the gates of her childhood home. Her parents wanted to come along with her but she begged them not too. They had important cases to solve and she didn"t want to interfere with that. Saya walked slowly towards the gate as the taxi driver took her bags from the trunk of the car.
"Do you need help putting your bags inside Miss", asked the driver.
"No, I"m good, thanks mister."
Grabbing her bags Saya made her way back to her home. The neighborhood was rich, housing many government officials, wealthy families, and celebrities. When her parents bought the land and built their house the contractors got the shock of their lives. They a.s.sumed that the Summers were going to build a mansion like the many surrounding the neighborhood. So imagine their surprise when they were tasked with building a simple four bedroom, five bathroom house. Besides the four bedroom house Saya"s parents also wanted a small office built on the other side of their lot to be used for their private eye business. The house and office were completed with gates. The office was separated from the main house by a wall with irons gates in the front and one in the back that connected to the main house.
The house remained spotless even after two years of abandonment. Her parents hired a cleaning crew to prepare the house for Saya"s arrival. The house was brought back to the way it was before they left. Everything was the same as Saya remembered even the smell. She took a deep breath taking it all in as she made her way to her bedroom. A light gust of wind blew from the open window. "The cleaning crew must have left it open," she thought.
Summer has ended and the open window left the room cool. The sun was setting casting an orange hue to her bedroom. Turning on the lamp by her bed Saya let out a yawn and sat on her bed wondering if she should to surrender to jet lag or take a much needed bath. Letting out a sigh, Saya moved towards her bathroom. The need for a bath won over her tiredness. Before heading into the bath Saya messaged her parents to let them know she arrived safely.
[Saya: Made it home safely. Going to take a bath in a little bit. Can I use the office?]
[Mommy Kat: The land and buildings are yours now sweetie. Do what you want with them.]
[Daddy Reo: The office has also been cleaned. You can do whatever you want with the things your mother and I left behind. Are you planning on taking any cases? Remember the conditions we laid out.]
[Saya: I"ll leave it as it is. I don"t plan on taking any serious or dangerous cases daddy. Don"t worry. I"ll probably just take on a few cheating spouse or theft cases.]
[Mommy Kat & Daddy Reo: ...….]
Staring at her parents response Saya chuckled. They knew her so well.
[Saya: I"ll try and stay out of trouble, I promise. I love you both. I need to take a bath before I fall asleep.]
[Mommy Kat: Okay sweetie, love you.]
[Daddy Reo: Love you too. Don"t forget that gramps wants to visit you soon. He has some personal business to complete first. But he"ll visit as soon as he"s done with that.]
Saya smiled and put her phone down. She was excited to see great gramps. Saya"s paternal grandparents died in an accident when her father was just a young boy. It was her great grandfather Lee who took her father in afterwards. After losing his own wife a few years earlier, grandpa Lee fell out of touch with his only son. Heartbroken over his dear wife"s death, he isolated himself putting all his energy into his company. It was during this time that he lost touch with Reo"s father. A regret he carried to this day. When he heard of his son"s death he almost had a heart attack. He wanted to follow his family to the grave until he learned that his grandson survived the crash. That day he promised himself that he would live for his only grandson and to raise him in place of his departed parents. He raised Reo with so much love and support, putting him above anything else and he did the same when Saya was born.
