Arkalat gaze peered into the thick darkness that laid ahead of the convoy. Now the reason appeared clear to Speranza why he had wanted her to ride with him.She could see the glowing eyes of the creature that looked at their travel group.
She shivered inside as cold sweat formed at her back. If their group was smaller those creatures would likely take them for targets.
A mixture of small critters and larger Dire versions of overgrown rats and creatures resembling a mixture of a cross between a rat and a mole and being as big as a large dog.
Feeling her heartbeat grow out of control and her body become more stiff Arkalat whispered to her.
`they will not dare attack. This group is just too large added to the new slaves that have now turned to their side. We are too many. They are not stupid."
Speranza nodded once not feeling so rea.s.sured but if he said so then it had to be so.
Letting out a long sigh she looked over her shoulder gazing at his face peeking in his endless pools like eyes she could lose herself into them he gave her a small smile barely a break of a curl of his lips upward.
But to her it meant that it would be fine he had definitely a plan or those creatures would just not dare.
Wyverns growled once or twice scattering to the four winds the creatures that had been following along.
Only the bigger specimens dared to continue to follow.
Their motive was simple; in case one would fall behind the large group.
This unlucky person would then become its next meal this is how things worked in the underworld.
Ruled by the law of the jungle. Strong preyed on the weaker creatures. Old and young, wounded or fatigued if you showed any weakness your likeness of being targeted would increase.
Therefore, a pregnant female was an ideal prey but the male that stood behind her was an excellent deterrent to them. He exuded a frightening aura.
With her condition, long travel day would take its toll on Speranza. While the creatures worried her Arkalat knew that until the fourth level the likeness of them having the guts to attack would be very slim.
However, he did not decrease is vigilance after all creatures aren"t the only ones that could harm them.
Arkalat looked down at the sleeping beauty that leaned against him as she had drifted to sleep. Holding her with one arm as he guided the wyvern with the other.
After all the wyvern only needed little direction it was plenty smart enough to know where it had to go.
Soon the arrived at the first-second level river they had to cross. This would be a test on the foot soldiers and the rest of the troops.
The crystal cave tunnel of the second level wasn"t deep but it was very large.
More than four miles wide and ranged from three feet to six feet deep but the main problem would be the current force more then what hid within its waters.
He took the lead gently waking up Speranza as she needed to be conscious to cross this particular stretch of river water.
Frowning as she woke from the comfortable dreamland she gazed at the endless water the covered all the horizon they could see.
While this was inside a tunnel the tunnel itself would be considered wide and as they would go deeper so would the size of the tunnel would increase.
Some of the deeper tunnels whereas large as a country! Those tunnels would have the biggest, worst and most dangerous creatures but, as well as, main travel ways from cities to cities.
But this much was still far from them. The slippery ground rocks covered in moss in the river was their immediate challenge.
A rope was tied between the two wyverns one would take the head as the other would take the tail. The people would hold to the rope as they crossed.
The lucky ones would have been Speranza maids in addition to the new Demona.
She would ride inside the carriage on the wyvern back.
Like this, they started there crossover of the large river slowly advancing...
