Farah.

Alexandria, Egypt.

December 18, 2009.

Farah went back to her house after having dinner with Malika. She was thinking the whole ride back of what she told her. It was hard for her to believe in supernatural or unusual things even though some unrealistic events kept happening to her for the last eight years. Even if she couldn"t remember her life prior to the accident; something deep inside her felt like it didn"t belong.

She parked her car and went inside her house, the first thing she saw was the huge digital clock next to the house door with 11:50 pm on its screen. Farah went to the stairs aiming to get to her room as fast as she could but was stopped by her mother"s voice who said, "Did you fix your mistake?"

"h.e.l.lo to you too… which one exactly are you referring to?" Farah sneered.

"It"s incredible how much you think you"re funny… when you"re not… at all," Pakinam said and rolled her eyes.

"Thanks, mama, I"m truly admiring your outstanding compliments… Adam is gone for good if that"s what you"re asking about," Farah said and looked at Pakinam who kept her eyes on a fashion magazine she was holding.

"Finally, you did something smart"— she flipped the magazine page lazily— "I arranged everything to celebrate New Year"s Eve in Luxor…and you"re coming," Pakinam said and looked at her.

"I"m busy," Farah said and walk up the first couple of stairs.

"I told your father, and you"re coming, by the way, I bought you some clothes," Pakinam said loudly.

"Please don"t tell me you bought dresses," Farah said and went down the stairs and looked at her mother annoyed for having this meaningless conversation.

"Of course, I did, you need to look like a lady more often, and besides that, all my friends are coming so you have to look good." Farah sighed defeatedly; she didn"t have the energy to argue, she waved her goodnight and head to her room upstairs. She went inside and locked the door behind her. Taking a deep breath, she decided to take a long hot shower to help her sleep.

12:30 am.

Her phone ranged; it was a notification reminding her of an event. She wore her pajamas and laid down on her bed, she picked up her phone and called Noah. "You"re old."

"Thanks," Noah said laughing at her sudden sarcasm.

"What are you going to do this year? How about getting a tattoo?"—she rolled to her left side— "or ear pierce?"

"I don"t think I"m joining any boy band soon."

"Why not you look like them somehow, I imagined you being in a band and have teen girls obsessed over you," Farah sneered. "It will be a dream come true for you… girls run after you… it sounds like any man"s dream."

"It sounds like a nightmare!"— they both laughed— "it"s past midnight and you"re still up just to wish me a happy birthday, I"m so touched."

"I didn"t wish you anything… I was just stating a fact but yes; I"m wasting a good amount of sleep to talk to you, you should be grateful," Farah said casually.

"Be nice for once; it won"t kill you," Noah said, laughing.

"It will indeed." they kept joking around for a while when Farah mentioned what happened on his birthday last year. She traveled to Sydney with Malika to surprise him— it wasn"t much of a surprise— Farah already told Noah she was going to Sydney for work for a couple of days, but Malika convinced her to stay at least two weeks.

Farah didn"t tell Noah what really happened to them before meeting him and for some reason, she never did. Instead, they talked about what happened when they met. Farah"s mind didn"t escape the memory and while Noah was talking on the other side. Her thoughts went back to what happened last year.
